  1. Hello every one!

    Well had my upper gi done today. Dr. said every thing looked good and he stretched my esophagus and I should be able to start my regular diet tomorrow but I should stick with cream Soups and milk shakes today. Of course I went to the store and bought frozen yogurt to make my milk shakes with. My throat is pretty sore but if this will get me back to being able to eat with out vomitting it back up I will be happy. I have lost a total of 37 lbs and that is with no fills yet. I can't believe it is almost 3 months from my surgery already. I'm a little up set because I have had these problems but at least we are finally working on getting me back in a healthy state. Sometimes I just wish my Dr. would have listened to me when I told her the first time. I remeber telling my Dr. after two weeks of surgery that I felt like something was stuck in my chest. If she would have done the test then she could have saved me some time. I can't believe that most of you are going on your 3rd fill and I have not yet had my 1st fill.

    Well my mother in law can longer walk because of the cancer on her back is press on her vertabra and she no longer has any feeling in her legs. I feel helpless for her and my husband. I went thru this three years ago with my dad and I rember feeling useless so I no how my husband is feeling.

    I'm really sorry I'm not on as much as I had planed to be, but I'm sure in the future I will be her more to support you all and get support.


  2. Hi everyone, I just joined this group today, my surgery was May 21, 2012. I kept seeing the groups people are in and, duh, realized I could join one too!

    I was lucky enough to have some restriction from the band alone and lost 40 lb but I no longer feel the restriction so I'm planning to have my first fill today. Last month the nutritionist and the PA said I shouldn't get a fill since I was doing OK but that has now changed. I hope it doesn't hurt - I am a total wimp about needles.

    Anyway, I'm glad to be here. Debbie, would you please add me to the roster for May 21? Thanks.

  3. Hello ladies, I'm still on just Soups. I go into the gastro Dr. on Monday to have a upper Gui done. They finally said the have to go inside and see what is causing all of my problems. Dr. said he might have to stretch my throat because it looks like it is swallon shut. Well I guess that would explain why nothing will go down. I didn't get to the gym tonight. But things are not going very well for my mother in law. Her cancer is really hitting her hard. Well ladies I will try to let you all know what they find out after the test.


  4. Well it sounds like every one is doing pretty well with their workouts! :)

    I have been pushing myself at the gym this week. I do the treadmill and ellipitcal for 30 min a piece. I usally do them both at about 3.5 so I decided that when a commerical would come on tv, that I would up it to 4.5 and let me tell you I have muscles in my rear end that are really noticing that little push. So I callenge you ladies to give your self a little push in your workout also! :D Let me know how it goes for you and what you are doing.


  5. So how is every one work outs been going?

    I will be starting Monday I hope it all depends on how busy I get at work, I sometimes dont take a lunch so I can get caught up with my work. We are understaffed in my dept and I am the supervisor so it falls on me if someone is out but if not at lunch I will be going after work for sure!! Mon-Thurs as well and hoping to start some on the weekends as well although I do keep active so I know I am burning calories.

    whymom have you been getting to the pool?

    I want to try pilates and yoga. Pilates the most though.

    lalaj have you been doing your pilates and yoga?

    I'm so proud of you ladies! your all doing so well. Well I go in tomorrow to see the Dr. again but I can tell that my throat is still swelling so I still won't get my first fill. I hope they figure this out soon. I'm really agaitated with all of this. I fill if some one would have listened to me two weeks after surgery this would be fixed already and I would be further in my journey. I guess I should not really complain I'm still doing okay. I have lost a totaly of 35 lbs in two months. And going thru all of this is making me work out harder at the gym. I have up my speed and hardness of the equipment at the gym and I make sure I work out for at least a hour. or if I'm close to rounding off my calories I will stay on the machine until I get to the even amount of burned calories. Such as the machine will say I have burned 287 calories I will stay on the machine till it says 300. So I challenge you all to push your self just a step further. Let me know what you did.

  7. I'm so sorry ladies we have just been having rough times around here lately. We just found out that my mother in law has cancer again and it is on her lung, back and brain so not looking very good. I fell at work last week and hurt my right middle finger and just now starting to type with it, certain things still hurt my finger. My mother decided she wanted to go back to phoenix and left yesterday.

    And now for me and my lap band. I had the gi done yesterday and I have a very large pill ,that my family Dr. told me I would be able to take, that is getting stuck in chest area. So this is whats causing all of my problems. So my throat is aggiatated, so I'm back on a liquid diet. I go in next week to see my family dr to see if there is some thing else I can take and I also go see my bariatric dr next week also. So things are getting back on track. And I'm so jealous reading how you ladies are going for your second fills and I still have not had my first one. I'm sure it is going to be a while because i seen my xrays and my throat is swelling alot. So I have to get that fixed before I can move on.

    Well ladies I have to run to get to work but I will try to hit base nightly again.

  8. yesterdays menu was:

    No Breakfast

    lunch

    3 chicken bites ( cameback up)

    supper

    1 & 1/2 egg rolls ( came back up)

    Tried chicken noodle Soup a couple hours later and it stayed down, thank god. I did call the Dr. and let them know that I'm having a hard time with things staying down. so they are going to schudle me for a upper gi. I hope every thing is okay. I'm getting worried that I'm going to mess my band up with all the throwing up I've been doing. I have not been to the gym all week because I fell at work and hurt my hand pretty bad. It is swollen, I don't think it can swell and more. I think I need to get a pin and pop it. ha ha


  9. Hi ladies, just wanted to let you know I got home safely. Had a great weekend. Other than this nagging lower chest ache I get a couple hours after I eat , followed by a gurgle sensation (which I will be talking to my doctor about at next fill appt) no issues. I did go to the gym my 1st day there and did 30 mins of cardio. Walked a lot through the weekend. We went to restaurants every night but I made sure to eat Protein first, stick to 1 cup or less and stop eating at first sign of fullness. I did treat myself but never got out of control. Back to the normal routine now.

    Very proud of you Natalie! So if you can exercise when you are out enjoying your self I do expect you to go to the gym at lease 3 times this week. So get your fanny there!

    Had another fill so was on softs all day Good news is I felt full!! I now have 6cc in my band. he said that should put me close to the green zone may need 1 more to be in it but hoping this does it for me.

    Whymomwhy how big is your band? That sounds like a lot so soon!


  11. whymomwhy that sounds great! when do you want me to start asking your about the pool? Starting today or monday and how many a days do you plan to work out?

    I plan on keeping up with my workout. Monday - Thursday doing 1 hr a day like I have been doing but I still would at least like to do 30 minutes on the weekend. Maybe just taking a leasurly walk. If I garden during the day that is great exercise but if I don't than I need to start doing something. keep me to this please ladies!


  12. Natalie, success hinges on our exercise program. The band controls the amount we can eat, and we can choose what foods we eat, but the key to success is burning them calories (and getting enough Protein so we burn fat and not muscle)!

    Besides, exercise gives you more energy and less stress! no matter how much it wears you out! if you need a class to be accountable, find one. If you need us to yell, errr support you.. we are here. Even though I haven't posted when I walk (which is my exercise at this point), I think of you ladies every time I walk, especially when I am not sure I want to. I can almost hear you all cheering me on or yelling, errr encouraging me to get off my butt. Hear us cheering you Natalie!!!

    still hoping for a treadmill to find its way home to me... esp before the bad weather hits. but I have been having fun watching the sunrise as I walk the mile track around the lake. such a peaceful way to start my day. I never dreamed I would enjoy walking at 430 in the morning, before work!

    My goal is eventually to be able to jog, even if its not far, but to jog for more than five feet, which is probably all I could do now! and to jog, without my flabby stomach flapping against my body making those disgusting noises. I've never been able to run my entire life, because I've always been heavy. I may never run a marathon, but I sure would like to jog the length of the street in front of our house.

    Anyone have any specific exercise/activity goals for as they lose weight???

    I so much love what you said here! This was the whole reason I started this group, so we would have the support we all need and to give help to each other. I believe that in a way we are all tied together as one big family now.


  13. Thanks Sleepyone! Maybe I will look around this weekend.

    my doc told me to stay away from ensure. I like slim fast because its thicker and more like a shake so I feel like I'm getting "something", and I like Atkins too, which is more like milk and I especially the strawberry. Its convenient when I dont want to pack a lunch, or when I dont make time to. you have to find one you enjoy. Its a good replacement. Try to stay with the low carb ones and the more Protein the better~


  14. Debbie and Natalie.. when I have trouble finding time for breakfast, I still grab a Protein Shake. My dietician said having one or two a day is an excellent way to supplement the Protein most banders struggle to maintain. I find them handy for when I'm on the go too and don't want to bother with packing food. (Who would have ever though I wouldn't want food!!! now that's a NSV!)

    Natalie, though you might feel like you are eating too much, looking at your food log, your portion sizes look good. As long as you are eating less than 1 or 1-1/2 cups, you should be okay. Don't deprive yourself of the nutrients you need by eating less, just keep eating the right foods that you have been doing. Do you have your next fill scheduled yet? I go in for my first one last week, YAY! Have a GREAT weekend away! We will miss you.

    Debbie.. planter facitis.. i know your pain well! do you have a brace to sleep in at night. That helped me alot. I did the cortisone shots too, which would help only for a short while. I ended up getting ultrasound therapy for it and after about 6 weeks of 3 times a week, the pain left! Just in time too, cuz a month later I went to Vegas and got married. There's no way to have foot pain in Vegas!

    Mom, I'd talk to your doctor about your increased hunger after your fill. I think a 6 inch sub sounds like you are able to eat too much. Are you chewing enough and taking the full minute between bites? Drinking too fast after a bite? Maybe the better question is, are you still losing weight? I was advised to eat Protein first, then my veggies and very little carbs. Carbs tend to make you hungrier and don't keep your hunger satisfied for long...

    I don't do the daily log, but I do want you all to know, I'm still eating good. I'm able to eat a little more which troubles me some but still within acceptable limits, I am exercising, and more importantly, still losing weight.

    Eating healthy has become fun for me. I take pleasure in seeing how much others overeat, knowing months ago I would have been right there with them. But the feeling the freedom the band has given me reassures me I'm on the right road. I am glad I eat less, I know my portions are what they should have been all my life and they are healthy! I have pride in my eating now, where I would suffer shame before because of my overeating. Though the journey is only beginning for us, find your victories along the path.

    What kind of protein are you drinking? I really don't want to go back to having ensure again. I was thinking of trying a fruity Protein Drink, but not sure what to try. any and all suggestions are welcomed.


  15. Well I didn't get a fill. I told the dr that I have been having problems with getting sickl. So she would not do the fill. I have to stay away from all types of breads, pastas, corn and I want to say that there is one more but don't have the sheet handy to look at it. So if I can go the next two weeks with out getting sick than I will get a fill if not I have to go in and have a swallow study done. What ever that is. So please say a little pray for me. I so want this to work for me.
