  1. I had my Sleeve done 3/28/11 and was at the park walking my dog that Friday...oh i did walk around the block Thursday and now i am full steam ahead. My mom came and stayed with me and i really only needed her those 1st 2 days after surgery. Good luck with everything. The Sleeve is the best decision I have ever made!!

  2. Hello everyone! I discovered this forum yesterday and decided to join today. The name's BJ, and I'm currently 19 years old and scheduled to be sleeved on May 17, 2011. I start my pre-operative diet on April 26. I've been overweight all of my life and decided last year that enough was enough; I wanted bariatric surgery. Actually, thoughts of surgery were in my mind back even when I was 15. I originally planned to have the lap-band, but after reading about the sleeve gastrectomy surgery, I figured it would be the best option. I never considered gastric bypass; it scared me too much. As my surgery date draws near, I am feeling nervous, but at the same time I also feel excited, as it will be the beginning of my new life. September of 2010 is when I weighed the most; I clocked in at 437 pounds. After learning that, and talking to my surgeon, I began my own diet and exercise routine, and have lost 106 pounds so far, bringing me down to 331 pounds. But I feel I could easily gain all that weight back, and see this surgery as the ultimate tool in not doing so. I hope to make lots of new friends on here and ask various questions. I kinda hope that I won't be as sore or in as much pain after the surgery due to my age. And I did tell my surgeon that I want a picture of my taken-out stomach after the surgery; heck, maybe he'll even show it to me in person before that. Lol. Only my family knows the type of surgery I'm having; I've told my friends I'm simply "having an operation". It'll be a fun day telling them what I did.

Awww God bless you BJ. You have made the right decision. I wish i woulda taken hold of my life when I was your age. Actually i didn't hit the 200s until i was in my 30s but i kept telling myself i would lose it dieting...ha ha ha! I would lose and gain more. My surgery is next Monday the 28th. I feel like you do..if i lose weight on a diet, i will gain it all back like i have in the past. So this surgery is the ultimate tool. Good luck to you.

  3. HIYA

I AM ANN I'VE HAD VGS ON 7 th FEB

IN SHEFFIELD WE HAD TO DO TEN DAYS PRE OP DIET ,,,,,,IT WAS MILK AND YOUGHRT, AND WARM drinks ,,,coffee , TEA, AND DIET POP ,

    NOTHING ELSE !!!!!!!!

IT WAS HARD BUT WORTH IT

    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

    :0))) xxxx

WOW!! No my preop is not that strict. It's lots of lean meat and green vegis, very few starches and carbs...no sweets!! I have to be on a liquid diet 24 hours before surgery.

  4. You can do it. The pre-op diet is hard, but well worth it. I would really recommend you go through the carb withdrawl during the preop diet instead of having to deal with that after surgery when you are already dealing with so much. You will feel like utter crap for about 4 days and then you feel fine. I actually feel more alert now that I have cut out the vast majority of the carbs I eat... but first you have to deal with the crappy feeling of getting off them. Best of luck!

Thanks ILKrista, yes it will be a lot easier dealing with it before instead of afterwards!! I am a carb junkie!! I know I am going to be okay..Just be glad when the surgery is behind me!

  5. Welcome to the forum MollyMc. The pre-op diet is essential for super obese patients like you and me, it helps the liver shrink so as to not be so fatty during the operation, this is so that it won't be in harms way during the operation and make the surgeons field of view larger.

Messing up on the pre-op diet is relative. Sneak in a few bites of a hamburger is OK, eating 2 whole burgers and a side of fries with a shake is not. If you are at all concerned then call your surgeon and get their take on it. Stick with it girl, you can do it.

It wasn't 2 whole burgers...its was just double meat double cheese LOL!! No just kidding!! Thank you for your response. I think I will be okay. I am eating lean meat like turkey. Its just the low carb thing I'm having a problem with. I love bread!! But I am going to try harder!! I am really looking forward to my surgery. It seems like the hours are going by so slow but I know it will be here before I know it!

  6. My name is Molly. I have hit 253 lbs and decided it is time to do something about it. I am scheduled for VSG on March 28th. I was asked to do a PreOP diet and it is not going well. I originally wanted to do the Gastric Plication but changed my mind today. Is it really going to matter if I mess up my pre Op diet? I have no health issues besides being overweight. I am really nervous and excited at the same time. I have not been thin since i was in Jr High. Now I am at my heaviest weight ever. I have done every diet on the planet, I lose weight and then gain it all back plus more.
