I don't think the band is that bad. It worked for me until I had an incident. I lost about 130 lbs with the band in the first two years. However' date=' I kept up with my monthly fills and followed very closely with my surgeons. Unfortunately, about 2.5 years into being banded, I had a terrible stomach virus or food poisoning episode (I still don't know). I was never the same with the band again. I kept going back and forth to the surgeon for fills and unfills. I just never felt comfort again. Now I have managed to gain back 115 lbs.I think the band works, but you have to be committed to going for fills. Also, it isn't always pleasent either, but we must ask ourselves, what kind of WLS is perfect. I am sure the VSG has its issues also.
One other thing to consider, I believe the rate of revision from Band to another WLS rate is much higher than the other WLS surgeries. (Don't quote me on that, but it just seems that way.)
My tentative surgery date for a revision is September 17th. I choose this revision because I know that restriction works for me and I wanted to avoid the hassle of fills, etc.[/quote']
Hi,
Your story sounds much like mines . I lost 120lbs in first 1 1/2 years and kept it off for 4years after being band but then I became ill and for next 3yrs we have done fills , unfills , just to gain back 130lbs known in 6months I will have conversion to the sleeve. My Dr 's said this will work best with my illness & MEDS. Good luck

Search around and you will that many of us had to go through a 6 month medically supervised weight loss program because it was an insurance requirement. It was way too long in my opinion but you do what you have to do to get this procedure done. No point fighting it or making yourself crazy over it. Just start it as soon as you can get an appointmentThx, I have . 1 month down 5 to go...lol

Hello. I somewhat did but not six months. I had to go to a 12 week class then have a physical then a psych eval and a regular check up with my primary followed by a doc appointment with surgeon then another a month later to re evaluate an make sure everything was still ok to proceed. In all it took about 6months for some in my classes it was less time. Just depends on how well your blood test came back. We were required to loss 10% of our weight by the end of class too.WOW!!! I guess I'm not alone. Good luck with your weight loss

I thought the same thing! Trust me after this episode' date=' I am gonna have a nice long talk with my surgeon. I am still on liquids even though the pain has passed. I'm too afraid to eat meat right now, maybe in a few days.[/quote']Yes, I made the mistake to start eating right away after my last episode and let's just say , big mistake, big mistake....I started hurting again but the pain was not has bad.then the swelling kicked in .....so me to for liquids.

Stupid question - but Anatomy was never my strong subject in school...but if you get stuck...can you still breath? Not stupid at all, yes you can breath. The pain sits in the middle of your stomach and it feels like someone gut punched you over, over and over.

I had my second stuck issue and it was bad, I notice after I was swollen & very soar and I'm glad to see your post to know whats happening to my body is not foreign. I get on Protein Shakes for days...thanks

When I get stuck or have a blockage it feel like worse pain I have ever felt in middle on stomach. Drinking Water or any kind if liquids make it 10x worse, so my band Dr. told me to take several tablespoons of meat tenderizer and walk as much as possible . This happen only twice in 7 years I have been band. Not sure twice in last 6 mo. I hope its not a sign for something else.
