  1. I've told my son, sister and mother. My son is like most guys and just goes with the flow. He doesn't asks many questions and just waits to be told what to do and where to be. I've raised him well! My sister wants to have the procedure and is going to watch my progress closely. My mom is not happy at all but very supportive. She said the same old mom thing, "you are beautiful just the way you are." Moms are awesome! I also told my boss and the two other people in my department. We are a small and close department in a small hospital and I don't mind them knowing. I have no desire to tell anyone else at work and will probably just talk about diet changes when people start asking questions. I also told my best girl friend. I'm single and not dating anyone special right now and know that I will probably never tell anyone that I am just dating.

I will be sleeved in 48 hours and can't wait to get on the other side of this procedure and on with my life. I am scheduled for 2 weeks off work but will probably take 3 as I do marketing and it is a lot of running around and no access to any place to keep my protien shakes cold. I at least want to be well into the mushy diet before I go back.

  2. I am on the Atkins advantage shakes too. I am 8 days in to my liquid diet. I admit that I have revised it a bit to work for me. My nut suggests 4 slim fast per day but I find them very thick and only tolerable. The Atkins are a much thinner consistency and are very delicious. They have 5 fewer grams of protien but also have 20 fewer calories. Now, what I mean by revised diet is, instead of four shakes a day, I have 2 and then a 300 calories or less lean cuisine. I stick to the 800 calorie per day diet but I don't get those Migraines or shakes that I normally get when my blood sugar gets too low. I'm not suggesting this for anyone else. It just works for me. I'm losing about .5 to 1 pound a day. Good enough for me and my liver too, I hope!

  3. Just got my new surgery date moments ago.. My original date was May 23rd. I chose to change it because my husband’s is tomorrow May 16th and I wanted to be able to help him with his recovery.. So my new date is JUNE 5th!!! I start my liquid diet on June 1st. I wish all the best!! ADD ME AS A FRIEND SO WE CAN KEEP IN TOUCH

Hey Nikki, I hope your hubby feels better soon and makes a quick recovery so he can help you thru your surgery! Prayers to you both.

  4. All Protein Shakes are not created equal and what may taste good/tolerable to one is going taste very different to the next person. Plus I hear that post-surgery, your taste buds may changes. The smartest thing I did was go to GNC and Vitamin Shoppe and buy several different ready to drink shakes in single servings to that I could see which I like. My favorites are the slim fast low carb which has 20 grams of protien and the Atkins advantage are my absolute favorite. Those have 15 grams. Only tolerable are the clear Isopure. Those have 40 grams of protien and I sip on one most of the day. Try not to stock up on the same too much for post surgery until you get a feel after the surgery for what you would like.

  5. I feel really good:) how about you? I'm excited and so happy to finally have this done and recovering. I just got this app the other day never knew it was out there lol. It showed 3 on my app and I clicked to open it but not sure how to check the new messages... I guess is what the three is? Only found your reply because I came back to this spot Ty for Amy help

Just click on the far right side. It has "...". Then click on the top that days subscriptions. Then read those messages. Those are the direct responses to a topic you posted in or started.

Best of luck on your recovery.

  6. I start my two week all liquid pre-op diet tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous but excited because it means my VSG is right around the corner. I have decided to be as strict as possible, and cleaned out my pantry, fridge and freezer (there was a well timed food drive in my area). I have only kept a few frozen fish fillets and eggs just in case I get homocidal around day 3! It's a matter of public safety..Wish me luck...

  7. I have no idea what it could be as I have not had surgery yet. I'm glad you have seen your doctor and it all checked out. And hopefully the nutritionist will help as well. My only suggestion would be that maybe you have developed a lactose intolerance and the milk based protien shakes are not agreeing with you. I've read that happening post-surgery. Go back to the basics with Clear liquids and see if that helps. By that time your nut appointment should be here.

    Good luck!

  8. I was told no coffee as the caffeine is an irritant to the stomach. Decaf is ok. I had been a serious, daily coffee drinker for years an the withdrawal was awful. I had a 5 day Migraine and ended up having to take one day off work because I felt so sick and weak. I have been off coffee for a month now and don't even miss it. I even bought a small latte this weekend and didn't finish it.

Plus all the calories And the money that I save makes it worth it!

  9. So my surgeon pushed my surgery back for two weeks due to a personal emergency. New date is May 30th instead of the 16th. I'm a bit down about it but not devastated. It actually works better for my work schedule. I'm just so excited about my decision to have this procedure and resolved that it IS going to happen that I'm just taking everything in stride. It may take a bit longer, but I will get to the other side of this surgery soon enough!

    Anyone else have any setbacks?

  10. It has'nt be confirmed but my date is looking like May 16th as well!! I will know by Monday for sure!! If not it will be May 21st <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />)

I'm having mine done in Chicago on May 16th as well. Not nervous at all. Just anxious. I can't wait to get on the other side of this surgery! I'm headed to the Bahamas next week so that will help some of the time go by quickly. I would have had it sooner but didn't want to be on any diet restrictions while I'm vacationing. I need to be home first to get used to the changes on my eating habits. Best wishes to all the May sleevers! (-and everyone else too!)

  11. May 10 is my date! Nervous ! I hope I am making the right choice.

    Hey shanon !

I know being nervous is only natural. I know I made the right decision because the alternative is to do nothing and then nothing will change. I only wish I had done it years ago. I hope your nerves settle a bit but just know its natural to be nervous. This is life altering!

  12. So maybe this is the clinical therapist in me but I have to wonder what I am going to do with time that I would normally be using to think about food. I'm not having surgery until May but love to plan ahead. I've started a new hobby and hope to add one or two more. I just know this surgery is going to give me the energy and drive that I have been struggling to maintain for the last few years. I also really want to run. Jog. Maybe enter a marathon! I live downtown Chicago on Michigan avenue and there are so many marathons that run right past my building and I would love to be running/walking with them rather than just cheering them on!

I've tried to attach some pictures of my fist new hobby, jewelry making. I love crafts and have made some very cute bracelets.

  13. Please everyone with BCBS of Illinois keep calling your insurance regarding the now obsolete waiting period. While policies will differ from employer to employer, if your policy does pay for WLS, there is no more 6 month wait. Be your own advocate. This was a big win that doctors actually lobbied to get because all it served to do was discourage people and make them feel more of a failure. This was cleared in February so call BCBS of illinois daily until they give you the correct information!
