  1. Hello I am just wondering what happen different that you gained it all back. I am researching the sleeve because I want to do it. So I am very interested of all the good and bad things about the surgery

    The easy answer is this:

When you stop doing what worked before, it doesn't work anymore.

    When you stop:

    Eating Protein first

Drinking at least 64 oz of no calorie, low calorie fluids

Limiting sugar, white carbohydrates, and calorie laden drinks

    Moving more than sitting

    Not drinking with meals

Eating mostly fresh, non processed food

    Eating tons of colored veggies

Weighing yourself to hold yourself accountable

    you will gain.

Pretty much it in a nutshell.

What you left out is the mental aspect. Fear and hope were motivators. You get comfortable. You lose and feel good. You forget the struggle.

Like most women who have experienced childbirth. You forget the pain until you are pregnant again lol They joy of a new body. For some a new life. You forget about your struggle until the scale or your body starts to remind you.

  2. I'm 5 years and gained 60lbs over the past year. Struggling to lose and get to goal

Thanks for sharing this info. May I ask, what attributed to your weight gain? Had you started back eating what made you heavy to begin with? I'm preop and just observing real life stories concerning how to keep the weight off? I know it's a struggle...but, how can we maintain the weight loss?

My exercise decreased and I stopped lifting weights. Carbs started to slip back into my diet. I can eat more and feel hunger or more like hangry.

The mind state of not screwing up diminished.

I got lazy and then it was 10lbs, 20lbs. I did the pouch reset. I went back to the basics. I went back to the gym but hurt my knee. Seems like the Protein shakes make me gain.

In November I joined Weight Watchers but so far only losing and gaining the same 5 lbs.

My metabolism has changed. It's like I have developed a resistance to what worked previously.

  3. April 2015 will be my 3 years and I'm experiencing the same increased hunger and feelings of no control. I weighed myself and gained 15lbs. I can't screw up. I've thought about it and see what I'm doing wrong. Eating too much, grazing and eating the wrong things. I have also been slacking with getting to the gym. Sigh. I just can't seem to get the scale moving again. I did the 5 day pouch test and failed miserably while on the liquid days. Maybe I will look into the 5:2 plan.

  4. I was sleeved Sept 27, 2013.

    Pre op weight 410

    Surgery weight 385

    Current weight 295

Hit a major stall these last 6 or 8 weeks.

    But not giving up!!

Yes I have hit a stall too. But you have to re-evaluate what you are doing. I come to the forums for motivation because living every day life can throw you off track. I know what I can be doing differently. I'm trying to be honest with myself. We can break this stall!

  5. My starting weight was 448lbs. I was not required to lose any weight pre-op as I see many folks talking about. I am two years post-op and my current weight is 314lbs. My goal weight is 248lbs. Just as you have said I also see many people starting at my goal weight. Possibly when I reach my goal I will make a new goal.

    Good luck sweetie.

  6. I'm 44 and 16mths post-op. I've lost 126lbs. I do having sagging skin but I've noticed that when I stopped drinking my Protein Shakes 2x a day and focusing on getting 90 grams of Protein in my skin started to look shriveled and wrinkly. From day one I've kept my skin hydrated as much as possible. I'm acutally thinking about doing the body wraps but will try the homemade version first (THANKS FOR THE RECIPE). I'm bottom heavy any my thighs are gross but unless I do plastics it's something I have to learn to love and live with. Good thing is you are young and should still have a lot of elasticity left in your skin.

  7. I love this post. I am 1 year and two months post-op. My doctor told me I have lost the expected amount from the sleeve (125lbs) the rest if up to me. My goal is 200lbs so I have 75 more pounds, I find myself strying. I bounce between the same 5 pounds.

Basically I will always be a work in progress and I'm okay with that.

  8. I am 1 year and 2 mths post-op. I am down 125lbs. I'm getting really scared for two reasons. The first is I can eat whatever I want. Nothing bothers me. Not even ice cream. The second is I can eat more and one cup of found doesn't satisfy me. I DO NOT want to gain any weight back. The scale has also not moved in months. When I went to my 1 year check up my surgeon gave me the bittersweet new of. "I lost exactly the amount of weight he projected me to loose from the surgery. Awesome! The Debbie downer is if I want to lose more weight it is going to take my own committment, determination and hardwork. That scares the heck out of me!!!! My tool, my resource, my sleeve has done it's job. YOWSERS!!!!!!

I keep telling myself I GOT THIS!! Do I???? Ugh!!!!!

  9. You seem to be in good spirits. That's a plus. I was dry heaving for two days. I couldn't even put anything in my mouth if I wanted to. I couldn't even take one sip of Water. SMH It's good you have a catheter because I couldn't pee. But when I started to dry heave and gag. There was nothng to vomit but bile and I would wet the bed. Then I would call for the nurse who never came. I was a big cry baby now that I think about it. I didn't have any pain just nausea and dry heaves. LOL

Get some rest you will need it.

  10. I've been reflecting a lot this week. Thinking about how my life was before I was sleeved. Wondering what my life would have been like if I had not taken the first step to wellness. Prior to getting sleeved I was becoming immobile. It hurt to walk, sleep, etc; things that many of us take for granted was becoming difficult for me. I was taking a back seat to life and it was hurting me emotionally, mentally and physically.

I started my journey at 448lbs. I am currently 324lbs. My goal is 250lbs. Although, I read where many are starting their journey at my goal weight I realize everyone has their own story, their own goals and their own successes. It feels really weird because I do forget that I have lost weight.

Here are a few (not in any particular order) of things that I have experienced during my journey.

    • The pain is temporary :)
    • Gas pains hurt
    • Nausea is the worst
    • I burp all the time
    • The Slimies are Real
    • I've learned how to vomit in silence
    • The vomiting goes away
    • Eating a Cup of food is hard
    • I hate Clear Liquids
    • Post-Op makes you a stronger person
    • This is Not Easy
    • Tastebuds can change
    • Food is Not Important
    • Loose Skin
    • I'm Shrinking
    • The scale can make you crazy
    • Who Knew you can puree almost anything :D
    • I don't miss Bread
    • Toast is My Friend
    • I can eat anything I want after a year
    • My clothes are too BIG
    • I'm Beautiful
    • Accept Compliments with a Smile
    • You don't owe anyone an explanation
    • Be True
    • Exercise!
    • Just Because you can Eat More Doesn't mean you should :P

  11. I'm also a May 2012 Sleever! Yes! I keep thinking what if I didn't take that step last year. My advice is to stay focused you can do it. I'm not going to sugar coat things and say all will be good because at some point you will question your sanity. LOL Real Talk!! When I start to mess up I remind myself that I consented for 85% of my stomach to be removed to save my life. That always kicks my butt into gear. Never compare yourself to others. I use to do that but then realized everyone's loss and journey will be different!

Good Luck to all of you who are joining us on the journey to wellness.

    Hugs

Brooke....I'm a May 2012 sleever. All I can say is....best decision I ever made. This whole time, my mantra has always been "think where you'll be a year from now." Every time I things got tough, that's what I told myself. I've been telling myself that since I started my 6 month supervised diet way back in November 2011. I kept saying it right through the pre op diet, and the post op liquids. Still telling myself that.

But here it is getting close to a year post op and I feel like I have a new life. Yes, I'm still me...with all the flaws and stresses that come with that. But so many doors are open now that weren't before. And I have more hope for the future than I ever thought possible. I am brimming with optimism and enthusiasm. No more hiding, no more excuses.

Yes it takes work. It is certainly not "easy." There are times when you're going to want to take a hammer to your scale. And there are going to be times when you'll want to drown your frustrations in a plate full of unhealthy food. But you fight those battles and prevail. And one day, maybe this time next year, you wake up and realize that you are a new person in a new body with a new attitude. Makes everything worthwhile.

  12. Here are a few tips when that happens.

    • walk around
    • put your arms up to help the food pass
    • vomit (don't make it habit)
    • breathe through it
    • sometimes I rub my belly (psychological)

Most important it will pass but try not to do it again. This happens when I drink Water too fast. Also when I forget not to drink while eating although I have mastered taking a few sips with my meal when needed. My Nut says we are okay doing this because we still have "everything" intact unlike a bypass patient. I can't think of the name of the "thingy" that allows food to pass from the stomach to the small intestines.

    Feel Better.

    Hugs

  13. I'm 10 mths post-op and (knock on wood) everything has been smooth sailing. About two weeks ago I noticed that everytime after I eat I run to the bathroom. Literally not more than 10-15 mins after. It's becoming annoying. My first week post-op I had trouble going but soon everything became normal. My urination has always been sporadic but no big deal. I know I should call my surgeon but I figured I would ask y'all first. Sometimes you guys have answers that the docs don't have. Like the slimies. I couldn't believe I had the worst time describing the feeling to my doctor and then what happens.

Well Let me Know if anyone else at this stage has this problem.
