OMG! I HAVE SO SCREWED UP!

If you feel bad about lying to your boss and you don't really want to say you lied, tell him you are having a partial gastrectomy. The procedure we had/are having is the same and it cures everything but your gallbladder. You can also add that you are contemplating addressing that issue at the same time. Explain to him that it is not voluntary and just remind him that you need your privacy as you deal with the procedure. That is what I would do. I wouldn't want to open up and tell my boss that I lied. Either way, I am sure he knows that he shouldn't have asked you that but he was generally concerned (or just plain old nosey..lol).

    Dang..........

Cool, I am going to keep an eye out for it. I plan on starting to replace 1 meal by the end of the week and then replacing 2 meals in January. It is amazing how this surgery helped boost my motivation to lose weight before going under the knife. I think its because we know that there is a great chance that we weill not regain this time around.

    Dang..........

I didn't know they had a muscle milk lite! I may have to try that because the original was too sweet for me. I do like the Atkins shakes - I am planning on starting with those since I know they are ok. I admire your motivation! Keep up the great work. You will be at 230 in no time..

    trying not to cry, but..

If the changes are through the same insurance company, they should honor it.. Hopefully, that is the case. In my case, my company switched carriers.. Either way like someone else said - it is not over. You have time to fight this!

OMG I am tired of eating.

I wish I felt that way. Maybe I will soon because I want this surgery like "tomorrow"!!!!! I am trying some Protein shakes and treats that my close friends are using (so i dont have to buy my own) and will start adding them to my diet in January. Back to you- thats a great way to feel. Start asap and get those Pre-op pounds off so you will be closer to goal. Hugs!

    Mexico

I like this post the most - out of all of the other postings on this site. It really shows a lot about the people I interact with online. On one end, I want to bang my head against the wall and then I am handed a helmet - there are a few that "get it". We all understand the reasons why we are going to Mexico. This posting was just someone caring enough to be REAL about the complications and deaths that arise from going there. Yes, there are complications that arise here in the states, but they are better documented. In Mexico, do we even know if Dr. ABCD is really Dr. ABCD? He could have butchered patients and then changed his name. ( An example- please do not come at me sideways). Are those diplomas real or photo-shopped? With all of the scams we see here in the US, can you imagine what is done there? We just don't know - and we may never. There are risks that we take as we cross the border. Fishy is just advising us to minimize those risks by doing your research. I don't see the bashing until after the insults started flying.

I chose Dr. Garcia. It wasn't the best choice overall, but the best choice for the price I can afford (in my opinion).

    African American Sleevers

This is a major surgery! I went 10 years ago to a gastric bypass seminar, and then 5 years ago to the lap band seminar. At both sessions, I was over 310lbs. Even though I knew that I needed help, I wasn't ready for surgery and the changes. I was afraid of how I would look with the skin and the lifestyle of not being able to enjoy eating. 10 years later, I still don't have any health issues other than knee pain and I am finally ready for the change. Take some time - the surgery will be here when you are ready. There may even be a new procedure that you feel more comfortable with.

    Mexico

Thanks Fishy - Despite how some feel, you are appreciated! People are not being real with themselves. They are relying on information passed down from unreliable sources and coordinators that get paid to book surgeries. The harsh realities are being ignored because of desperation. These surgeons are not God and they definitely have more than one death on their belts. We are going to a country where we cannot drink their Water. I know the hospitals have filtration systems but did they even check to see if the hotel has it? They are skipping a s-load of tests that are run here prior to surgeries, are they getting these tests prior to going? The 1% complication rate of VSG is not 1% when you go to Mexico. I cannot imagine what the new number is. I am going to Mexico- and unfortunately, I didn't choose Alvarez (cannot afford). All I can do is pray - and thats all the others can do because the real information on these surgeons are only known by the surgeons, the dead/butchered patients, and the coordinators. Thanks again for you insight. You are totally right - being honest and informative doesn't always come with a pretty red bow.

    Dr. Ortiz? Yay Or Nay?

    Dr. Ortiz? Yay Or Nay?

No one on this site has produced the Newsweek article. Maybe I should ask him for it. Amytug and I have discussed this in private awhile ago - ultimately, I agree. Research. But don't discredit a surgeon because he is competitively priced either.

    Dr. Ortiz? Yay Or Nay?

#1 - Aren't there 2 Dr. Ortiz(s)? #2 - Cheapo doctors? (insert head spin, neck roll, teeth suck..lol) - Just wondering, where are the cheapo doctors? Last time I checked, none of them are cheap! #3 - $2,000 is a big difference. Could I pay it? Sure. Are there more qualified surgeons with a lower price? Yes No matter how many posting you read, you will ultimately have to make the decision yourself. Figure out why the surgeon is $2k more that others and if the reason is valid (in your opinion), then you should consider if its affordable. Hugs! No one should be able to say this decision is easy!

    Hurry Up Aleady....feb. 2013

I haven't purchased any clothes and I am known for my shopping! I was thinking about buying clothes in smaller sizes just because..lol I am however, eating healthier, drinking Water (ugggggh!), and starting a exercise program. I am anxious, frustrated, nervous, and just ready to get this over with! I am going to start 1 Protein shake a day in January so I can have an opportunity to test a few out. We are almost there! Almost in a 2-3 month kinda way.. :*(

    Pre-Op Newbie Here

Hey there, I wasn't required to wait a year, but I found out this January that my employer changed the insurance to exclude wls. So, I had to postpone it until February 2013. It is a long wait, and after awhile you will get anxious - and question your decision, your surgeon, the surgery, etc. Now that I am less than 3 months away, I am antsy and frustrated at times because not only does it give me 3 months to try to talk myself out of it, but also 3 months of my friends and family trying to talk me out of it. They even look at me funny when I eat something I shoudln't be eatng. Congrats on starting the process though- if you need a buddy, feel free to PM or add me. HUGS!
