In 9 hrs I will be driving to the airport and 5.5 hrs later I will be sitting in the hospital in Mexico. It seemed like it took forever to get here but now I cant believe its happening so quick!

Ive been on my 10 day pre op diet and yesterday and today have had diarhea... it looks bright yellow. I am wondering if my system is cleaning itself out or what, I know it sounds weird but I am starting to over analyze everything as I have surgery on Monday (self pay Mexico).

At first I wasnt going to tell my daughter. She is 13 and as we all know teenage girls struggle with body image. I finally decided to tell her because I know we have a strong relationship and she is a very confident young lady.(Im the mom that when she started her period she got pizza, chocolate, pads, flowers, and a Hallmark card that said "way to go!"). At first she was upset and against it because of the chance something happening during surgery. I told her if I didn't do this that I could die younger because of my weight and there were risk if I did it and risks if I dont. We have discussed everything and I have shown her this forum too. I have also asked her not to tell her friends as I don't want any who are having weight issues to think there is "a quick fix": I know this doent help you much because your daughter is 9 but I think being as honest as you can with her will go along way.

Ok so we need to get around 64oz of water in a day.... can we consider water mixed with our protien as part of that requirement? What about the water used to make our broth? Or is this considered food only?

When are you having the surgery? I am going through BajaMed too and will be sleeved May 21. So excited!!

Just wondering how neccessary it is to have extra skin removed? I realize I will have loose skin but I am hoping it won't be too bad. Also just wonder how tall everyone is. I think knowing heights and weight lost would help give me an idea on extra skin.

I having surgery may 21 and have the same thoughts going through my head.... but I know I will lose the weight as I have yet to see anyone on here not lose anything... it seems each person loses at different rates. I just hope I'm not on the slow side of weightloss.

Hi I know this is late but I am from Grande Prairie and am having surgery May 21. Its nice to see other Albertans on here.

Around 6 months ago I ran into a friend that had been sleeved and she looked amazing. This got me on a path that will end with my own surgery May 21. I have research the heck out of this procedure and feel fine with my decision. I will be paying out of pocket and will be going to Mexico for this..... Because I am self pay (and a single mom) I needed to find a place to save money so I could justify the expense of the Medicard payment. So my big decision was to quit smoking, I had my last cigarette Feb 14, obviously there were other reasons to quit but needless to say I am pretty proud of myself. Now here's my problem, when I decided to quit smoking I figured one issue many people had was weight gain and I thought "who cares about that right now, Im getting sleeved in a couple months, I will eat what I want when I want as long as I quit." Well 3 months later I went from being 293lbs to 312lbs. I am pretty disappointed in myself for letting my eating get out of control so badly. I know I will never smoke again, my daughter is too proud of me to even think about it. Is it bad that Ive gained this extra weight before surgery? I start my pre-op diet on Friday.

I am just wondering about your exercise habits.... have you exercised or not and how much weight have you lost? Also how much is loose skin an issue and so you think exercise would lessen losse skin?

I get that we need so many oz of water per day but what I don't understand is why does it seem that the risk of dehydration is more after surgery?

I am booked for vsg May 21 in Mexico. I am paying for this myself. Over the past 6 months I have researched all the good and bad with a sleeve. I realize the bad is very minimal but I can't seem to stop focusing on it. I keep thinking "Knowing my luck I will suffer all the problems anyone has ever mentioned." Some questions I have 1. How long is the risk of a leak possisble? When are we fully healed? 2. How long off of work? I am a dental hygienist and plan on being back to work 1 week post-op. I have more questions but cant remember them right now so as they come to me I will post more.

OMG I totally get where you are coming from. Ive been asking myself the same questions! My surgery is May 21 in Mexico. In the end I am 99% sure this is a good choice for me. I am almost 6 feet tall and have a bmi of 40. Ive lost weight before only to gain it back and the some. It is scary but so is being obese with health issues and having to deal with kids. I told my daughter that if anything is going to take me off this earth it will be from something I couldnt control, like getting hit by a bus. Not from something I could have done something about, with that said I quit smoking in February and am now focused on a healthy me.... yea surgery seems like a drastic step but research as much as you can and this forum is great for support and information. Only you can make the decision.

I am going nuts right now waiting for my passport.... then waiting for funding.... then waiting for the surgery..... I just wanted to let everyone one on this forum to know how great it is to be able to read everything rlated to gastric sleeve surgery. This is something I am definitely doing but I just dont know when yet. Oh yea.... how the heck do I add a weight loss "ticker"?
