    Depression

I had it bad for almost 6 weeks....depression, hopeless feeling, got really angry for almost no reason. It will pass. My best suggestion is don't make any major decisions and really think about things before you say them. I said some things to people that I wish I could take back! Now looking back, I realize I was half outta my mind! 3 months out, everythings fine now.

    Hi Everyone

Do a search on this site for littlemissdiva's boot camp, she gives some really good advice for getting back to basics and getting weight loss going again.

    Hi Everyone

Hi Jennifer. 60 lbs is a lot of weight to lose, you must feel way better with that gone! What was the number of lbs you were hoping to lose? It's not too late to get back on track. I've heard its harder, the further out you get from surgery, but the RN at my surgeon's office says the 'window of opportunity' is still open up to 18 months. Are you sticking to a healthy eating plan? Tell us a little more about what you're eating, and your exercise habits. Is there a support group that you can join? I am a very slow loser, over 3 months out, and only down 24 lbs....so I kind of understand. I eat right 99% of the time. My body is just very efficient at using what I give it. Have you gained any back?

    Hunger Hormone?

With the sleeve, the stomach is actually removed. With RNY the stomach is cut away, but left laying in the abdomen....so its probably still producing the hormone, right? I'm not sure.
  5. My grandmother in the late 1940's had a reportedly 2/3 of her stomach removed due to ulcers. She was always quite thin. Died at 80 years old (1980) of nothing related to her stomach.

    Hormones On Edge

How far out are you? I had crazy out of control emotions for about 5 weeks.

    Cold Cold Cold Feet

I think your nervous feeling is normal, there have been many postings by people who have felt like canceling surgery. I was so nervous, my blood pressure was through the roof. Having your husband's surgery so close to yours can either make you feel better or worse, depending on how his recovery goes. But having everything so fresh in your mind, might make it harder at first. But the great thing is that in the long run, you guys will be doing this together, and that is great. I think going into this as a team, really can add to your success. For me, the first month was really hard, but at 3 months out, I don't regret it a bit. I wish you guys all the best!

    New Here

ms.amby---that is awesome. New rich, I'm 3 months out, definitely glad I had it done. The first month is really rough. Best advice is to make sure you're secure with your choice of surgeons. Then make sure and follow his/her instructions.
  9. Try a heating pad, it worked wonders for me. Hang in there, it all gets better. You'll do great.
  10. I mostly remember being told over and over and over, "take a deep breath". The O2 monitor kept beeping. I remember it being really hard to take deep breaths. Slight nausea, which I told the nurse about, she gave me something and it helped. I had some pain too, but not too bad. When I first woke up, I looked at the clock, it was 11:15, at 2:30 I was walking out of the surgery center. The first couple days I walked kind of hunched over.
  11. Sounds yummy, but then I'd have to get a bag of Ruffles!

    So Tired Of Pain!

I've read on here that some folks used an abdominal binder, which seems like a good idea. I, too, always felt the need to hold pressure on my abdomen. Try a heating pad, it helped me. I had that deep ache on my left side for 4 - 5 weeks, but not bad enough for pain meds, but I used the heating pad especially at night. good luck, hang in there.
  13. My surgery was outpatient. I of course needed someone to drive me home and back the next morning for my leak test. I didn't have anyone to help me except I had someone feed my rabbits (50) for 2 days. I didn't need any help. I drove myself back on post op day 3 for drain removal. I did fine, and I'm old.

Why Did You Choose The Sleeve?

I chose the sleeve because I didn't want re-routing of digestive tract. And, almost all the people I knew who had it have gained their weight back. My surgeon's office talked me out of the crap band, and told me about the sleeve. The lap band needs maintenance and then you have a foreign object in your body. I like the fact that with the sleeve the extra stomach is actually removed, rather than just sitting there, probably still producing all that grehlin. If your surgeon needs more experience, then maybe you should look for one that already has the experience, you don't want him getting his practice on you. Don't be afraid to ask how many sleeves he's done and how many leaks and/or other complications he's had. Good luck.

    Carb Addict For Donuts

You can also go to theworldaccordingtoeggface, she's got a low carb recipe for donuts.....
  16. If you're on BP meds, it may be that your BP is getting too low, your doc may need to adjust your dose.

    No Where Else To Turn

Ditto to what cowgirljane said. The first 6-8 weeks after surgery can be an emotional roller coaster. I made a decision during that time for which I am now sorry. I also said some things to people that I now regret.

    High To Low

Christinarose, I had experiences similar to yours. I had very dramatic, extreme mood swings. It began to taper off by 5-6 weeks and I would say totally gone by 7 weeks post op. I wish I woud have been more aware of what was going on....I said some things to people that I shouldn't have...

    Do You Hate Protein Powder/liquids?

It can taste different depending on what you drink it out of...if I drink it out of the carton, its gross. If I put it in a small cup, and make sure its real cold, its OK.

    Going Back To Work

Nalasmom, You will have lifting restrictions. I am also a nurse, but now I do home health. I went back to work at 10 days, but if I was still working in a hospital, I could have never done it, it's much to strenuous. Some people feel fine right off the bat, but they still have a lifting restriction. Mine was under 25 lbs for 6 weeks.
  23. Welcome Marina, I can certainly relate to much of your story. Its great that you did this while still so young. I wish this would have been available when I was 35! Best of luck to you.

    Fear About Losing Too Much

Oh, I look forward to the day when this is what I worry about
  25. Hi Daisymoo. I am 51, had surgery 2 months ago. I've only lost 20 lbs, which is not much compared to others, but I am happy to see the scale move in that direction, even if it is slow. Welcome. This forum is a great place for info and support. Ellen
