Before And After Pic's
kayte819 replied to Purdy in Pink's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations!! You look incredible!! Great inspiration! -
Try a whole grain flat....I use Flatout flat bread. It's similar & I only use like 1/8 of a piece at a time. A much better option! GL!!

I stalled around 3 wks post op & it lasted almost 3.5 weeks. In the 2 wks since it broke I have lost 16 lbs, so don't let it upset you too much!!

Not-Sweet Drink Suggestions
kayte819 replied to flourgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree - lemon or cucumber in water, even whole raspberries - all give flavor without the sweetness. I love iced tea - brew your own decaf. Also try the lemon lime g2...its almost salty tasting. It's the only flavored drink I can stand. Good luck!! -
Full Liquid Stage Suggestions
kayte819 replied to chyna86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lived on malt o meal. I'd put splenda in it & some milk or even evaporated milk & it was good. My nut said grits were ok too but I couldn't manage them. My nut ok'd strawberries & blueberries so I cut them tiny with splenda on them & mixed with cottage cheese (I much preferred the smaller lumps - can't think of what it's called for some reason), greek yogurt blended with milk, frozen berries & sf banana pudding is delish...like a fruity milk shake-smoothie (I'd add protein powder sometimes but its a lot of protein w/ just the yogurt & milk). I couldn't & still can't eat eggs unless they were like egg drop soup. I loved hot & sour soup from my local Chinese restaurant with egg & tofu only - no meat. If you like malt o meal - I made a bigger size batch then put it in Tupperware so when I wanted some I didn't have to make it every time....I'd just scoop out a 1/4 cup & microwave it. Cream of wheat is similar but I don't like it as much. I didn't enjoy the mushies stage at all & hated most of the cream soups....I have a pantry full of them & they will never get eaten! Also, I HATED all protein shakes but muscle milk light vanilla latte rtd tastes just like a Starbucks vanilla chai latte & has a thin consistency...try it! I love it! They sell it @ my local 7-11 but I haven't found it anywhere else Good luck! -
Tuna Or Red Meat Problems
kayte819 replied to GabbyEstrada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 mos post op & can't tolerate ground beef at all. I've tried every preparation I can think of...in soup, meatball with sauce, etc. Can't get it down...it just sticks! I eat a lot of fresh tuna -Ahi- seared on the outside & extremely rare inside. It goes down like butter with some ginger miso dressing that's.low cal, low sugar, low fat, low carbs.....delish & healthy & loaded with protein! Try it I hate canned tuna....haven't tried it post op. It's all trial & error so give yourself a couple more weeks & try them again. Don't rush it. Good luck -
What's In Your Fridge?
kayte819 replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The biggest change in my fridge is the top shelf used to have diet coke 16oz bottles on it & now there's 14oz rtd muscle milk there instead. *sighhh* I miss diet coke. -
When I was sleeved (1/28/12) they also performed a hiatal hernia repair. Following the sleeve I initially had a hard time getting food down, and then keeping it down but.this has improved & I'm not vomiting as often now. That being said, last night I took an oxycodone for back pain & it made me super sick. I hadn't eaten much in the day & this was in the middle of the night so when I threw up it was just yellow stomach bile & it was really forceful & exhausting. Today I woke up with pain in the lower throat/top of chest area...almost feels like a ball is stuck in my lower throat. Anyone know if you can pull a muscle when vomiting or what.this might be?? I'm worried I did something that messed up the hernia repair!!

Did I write this?? I could have! I had surgery on 1/28 & I'm down 45 lbs & no one can tell, including me, other than my face. I saw my dad today & he said "how are you doing? Have you started to lose any weight yet?" Boooo. That sucks! And my jeans fit the same as ever. I even pulled out an old pair that's the same size but run small & they.wouldn't budge. It's hard not to get discouraged when you feel like you've made this life change & lost a good amount of weight & it's crickets, crickets......nothing! BUT we are losing & we are changing & maybe our bodies, family & friends are slower to notice than we are! We just need to stay focused on the positive & know that in time all will fall into place....or better yet, fall off (my pants preferably)! Change doesn't always come.as fast as we'd like but when we're doing what we're supposed to do it WILL come! Hang in there....I'm right there with you!

As a serious yo-yo dieter I have spent years thinking if I have good food I am or have done "good" & vice versa. I don't know how to shake this mindset! Today I ate horribly. I had a med iced coffee w/ half&half because they.were out of 2%. Then I was busy & didn't eat all day. Tonight I had a date night with my 4yo son & since we only spend time alone on the rarest occasion, I let him choose where we went. He wanted hot wings & ice cream. So at dinner I had 4 or 5 pieces of fried zucchini (they were small) & 1/2 of one small wing. Then we went shopping for a couple hours, followed by a trip to cold stone. I got a kids size chocolate frozen yogurt w/ bananas. I ate.the bananas & tossed the rest. I couldn't stop admonishing myself all night. I entered everything into mfp & after all the berating myself I had consumed 512 calories, 17g of sugar & 45 carbs. This is something that would have blown my mind before vsg....in fact it blew myind just now! So, the worst part of my day was how little protein I ate - 15g. The thong is, I feel like all this counting carbs & tracking every morsel is really messing with my "guilt" that I've.previously associated with a diet. How do I turn that inner voice off? I eat healthy the majority of the time, but I hate feeling "bad" if I stray, especially when the stats look like these! Oh to get.this stupid diet monkey off my back!!! So any sage advice on shaking this??

Nausea, Nausea, Nausea
kayte819 replied to AliveAgain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just throwing it out there - I've had the Mirena IUD for almost 3 yrs & LOVE it! It releases centralized hormones to the cervix only so no weight gain, crazies, or skin issues. I had the worst time with BC. Totally could not take any of them w/o turning into a psycho & packing on the lbs, but this hasn't caused any side effects at all. Oh, except one: I don't get my period anymore! Whoohooo!!! -
I waited until 4 weeks out then ate melba toast, per my NUT. I can't eat more than 2 or 3 & I usually put some cream cheese & smoked salmon on them, or slice a babybel & a little ham so it's getting protein in & melba toast has some protein too. Go easy at first & def chew it up realllly well! Good luck!

I have an iud & hadn't had a period in 3 yrs. The day after surgery I started bleeding like crazy for almost 3 wks then this month -about 4 wks since surgery- I got my period again & it was super heavy. So bummed!! Loooved not having it. Hope it goes away again!!!

I am wondering what restriction feels like for everyone else. I never feel anything like what I formally associated with "full".....never. I usually quit eating something because I measured it out & it's gone. The only other indication I have is I start burping (eww). Should I feel full or close to full? It feels somewhat unsatisfying to never feel like I've eaten a meal. Anyway, just curious if I'm doing this right? P.S. I appreciate all of you who answer my endless litany of questions, for your time, thoughts, insight, patience & kindness I sincerely thank you!!

Frustrated?!?!?! Any Suggestions?
kayte819 replied to Tif 2.0's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Tif, Sleeve sister here (1/28). I went through the same thing. Around week 3 or so I.stalled for 3 long weeks. It was mind torture!! I went to my surgeon last Monday & he was basically like keep doing what you're doing. No advice. I upped my calories from about 600 a day to 800 a day. I'm still not.exercising so you will probably have different numbers, but the very next day the scale started moving.....finally!!!! In the last 10 days I've lost 13 lbs. I am soooo happy & feel like the honeymoon is just getting started since I basically hated my sleeve until 6 wks post-op. Now that o don't throw up daily anymore AND I'm losing I feel like the love is beginning Don't get.discouraged! It WILL happen!!! We can stick together sister & keep each other positive & focused! I admire your daily exercise....I'm not there yet.....but soon! 44# post-op & planning on kicking into high gear @ 250 (20 more lbs) because of major back pain. Yay you!!! Keep up the amazing work!! -
Maybe remind her that is didn't take a day to put it on & it won't take a day to take it off. Maybe print out some information for her to give her some realistic expectations so she can cheer you on! And if she doesn't then just come back here & we will!!

It's More Than Just Losing The Weight
kayte819 replied to kdippy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine too. I've smoked for 20 yrs & took chantix to quit before surgery, which I did. After I got sleeved I started "social smoking" when with friends & family that smoke. Slowly this nasty habit has crept back into my everyday life. The problem is I love smoking. I don't drink, I've kicked food more or less & this is my last vice. I've confessed my sins to my surgeon who obviously said quitting would be ideal. I'm going to start the chantix again soon (out of pocket because insurance won't cover it...how stupid...but viagra is covered??) Ive quit with every pregnancy & a couple other times so praying for the strength to make the next time the LAST TIME!!! -

Not Loosing Weight
kayte819 replied to ButterflyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Butterfly! Don't despair! I had a 3 week stall that started around week 3 & lasted 3 wks. A week ago I saw my surgeon who had no suggestions since I was already doing what I was supposed to be doing. I felt so discouraged.....but the very next day I was down 2 lbs. Today 9 days later, I've lost 13 lbs!!! Making up for lost time I guess! I did up my caloric intake from 5-600 to now 7-800. It seems to have helped. Moral of the story: it will happen! You're doing a fantastic job so don't lose the faith....keep doing what you're doing & the weight WILL come off -
Thanks Lissa Patience is a virtue I must remind myself!

Still Hungry.....wth?!?
kayte819 replied to kayte819's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all for the feedback! Ate soup for dinner & felt ravenous an hour later. I'm rebellious by nature so I decided to eat a bowl of kashi lean crunch.....omg! Threw up my socks! Lesson learned. Still working on reighning in my inner rebel!!!
