  1. I felt the very same and I was scared to death of not awakening after surgery or that something terrible would go wrong. But I was banded on Monday, March 12th. I believe honestly that this one of the most singlehanded best decisions I have ever made in my entire life. And the fact that I am doing this for me not my husband or anyone else I think also makes this so different. I feel great. I have had this over abundance of energy since surgery and have had such high esteem. Like I changed overnight, or maybe I sense the coming changes. Not sure what it is, but it feels great! I even went walking the very day after surgery. Walked only 4 blocks but it was fun. Yesterday, after work a co-worker and I walked 4 1/2 miles... that was a breeze too. Good luck and stick to what you feel is best for you.

  2. I reccommend Dr. James Pitt in Columbia, MO...... I was just banded on March 12th and feel terriffic. I have this over abundance of energy and cannot believe how well I have felt ever since the surgery. No pain, no gas, just pure excitement ready to start this new venture and I have lost 5 pounds since Mondays's surgery. I feel great. His staff is excellent they will work you through to get approved, pre-op, surgery and then afterwards. Terriffice people.

I am in Jefferson City, is there anyone close to me??

  3. Hello all. I have been posting on the other March bandsters but is sooooo long. I was banded on March 12th. I feel really good, no pains, no gas pain either, I really seem to have a lot more energy. Even went walking the day I came home from outpatient surgery. Walked 4 1/2 miles yesterday after work. really have energy and I feel different inside. My self esteem has already gone way up and I feel that I am different even though I have only lost just over 5 pounds since Monday. I had my hair cut and colored day after surgery and returned to work. I also attend classes at night. full schedule and have not stopped to rest yet. I really hope that I can succeed on this plan. I was on liquids "supposedly" for 48 hours after surgery. I think I adhered to that. then I began regular food, I just bypassed my mushy stage. I mush it I guess, when I over chew. Have been told to chew chew chew!!! I was craving a hamburger the other day, I ordered a plain small hamburger from mcdonalds and had trouble even eating all of it I think I ate half, I was full. I could add everything up I have eaten this week and it still would not be what I would have normally eaten in one day, and I did not have a problem with overeating, just lazy I think!! Any one else on here from Missouri????

  4. I am day 3 post op.feeling terrific/ still no pain and no gas pains either... I am still bloated some, but have lost 3.4 pounds since Monday. I have so much energy now, not sure why... Just better spirits, I presume. So much energy at work, I about drove myself crazy today, could not sit still for nothing!!!

To all those out there still waiting, in my opinion, so far this was the Best decision to make!!

  5. I had a bite of tuna last night it was from my son and husbands subway sandwhich. took me long to eat this small bite than it took them to eath the entire sandwhich and extras....

Today at lunch I ate a bite of chicken breast, couple little bitty chunks of cooked egg form a salad and a bite of green Beans (3),, I was full I borught the rest of my lunch home for dinner tongiht. co workers are shocked that I was full.

I have lost 2 pounds since surgery on Monday. I feel fine, no pains to speak of yet....

  6. Well today has been a busy day. Woke at 5am and did not gop back to sleep. Had hair colred and cut, went with hubby to adr appointment and went to visit co-workers (same building) they were eating lunch and talking about me when I walked in. They are all interested in getting banded now...... they had to feel my port and look at my belly... fun!!! it was alright... they were calling me brave and amazing to go through with it. Better outcome from them than expected. But I work tomorrow and have 4 hour class after work tomorrow night... That will make for a very long day...

How many days am I supposed to be on Clear liquids again? Before I adjust to consistancy that could go through a straw , then my mushy stuff? I am so totally confused. I think Sylvia told me yesterday that after two days I could move on to the consistancy to go through a straw but not really sure any more.

  7. Today was day 1 after surgery.... I have been up since 5am and did not go back to sleep. Was off work today, so I went with hubby to take car to shop, sent to a stroe, had my hair colored and cut, went back home for only a few minutes, then went to dr appointment with hubby which happens to be in same building i work, so i went to go see co-workers. walked in onthem while they were eating lunch and talking about me!! Now each one of them wants to know more about the band.... they are all so interested since our health insurance covers at 90%. They were all amazed that i was up and about, i do return to work tomorrow and i have class tomoorow night to that is 4 additional hours after work....

I think i am done running around for the day, time to rest and relax before tomorrow hits hard. So far no pain from soreness or gas.... Just still a little tuff to swallow, only drinking Water still......

  8. Well yesterday went fine...so far no pain.. only dry mouth and scratchy throat i ahve my sippy cup of Water and package of sugar free mints next to me at all times. i walked 4 blocks last night. i really feel fine just very bored... off work today too, plann on going to get hair cut and colored, i like change!!

Magnolia... was day yesterday too? i noticed we have the same goals and basically the same starting weight..how tall are you? i am 5ft 3in. hope all went well with you.

    will most more later.........

    sharon

  9. besides being bored.... i feel fine... have had zero pain....... a little nausea, but a little is so much better than normally after surgery for me.... not hungry... throat isa little scratchy and mouth stays dry/ i have sippy cup in hand and bought some sugar free mints to suck on. i walked 4 blocks last night since i could not lie still..........today i am off work and i have plans to go get my hair done since it didi not get done prior to surgery.... I just like change an dwhy not start off all together with change? i had finally told all co-workers in my department 5 people... that i was having surgery. seemed ok with it, no redidicule. although two plus another that knew from a nother department are the ones that called to cehck on me. oh well it is done now.... i just hated answering questions about the preop diet..why why why.... so i explained...... will write more later.....

  10. getting excited and more nervous as this day goes by... I am due at the hospital at 6am tomorrow. I have su[[osedly been on a 10 day liquid diet... I have cheated some throughout. and even more after my surgeon told me he did not even last on the 10 day of liquids and he cheated, he said just make wise choices if I did. I have tried my best and I went Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon with only liquids... tue, Wed,Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun little cheating..... I feel so giuilty!!!!

  11. Yes, I see it is just around the corner. I saw Pitt on Tuesday for pre-op... I had cheated the night prior on the pre-op But he did nto mind, he stated he cheated too. He was unable to go the full 10 days... He said if I had too, just choose wisely. So I have a few times. But scared to death of surgery it self. How are you doing? I did not make it to last night meeting. Wanted to but just was not able to get there.

    Sharon

  12. :update:

I have never before had this in my life and I'm still not sure how it happened, but it would appear after speaking with my dr, that I have Thrush. Isn't that what babies get? ANYwho, he is calling in a prescription that I will pick up on the way home.

    T

Strange isn't it?? My 15 year old daughter was told she had thrush a few weeks ago. I work in the medical feild and I thought it was prone to babies. But, it is for anyone that has not been eating... which was her case... she had not been able to eat for a few weeks just not hungry. well if you were on a preop and not eating thta could be your case too. Then I need to be careful as well, I am on day 5 of my pre op. Oral antibiotic took care of it.

  13. Hello Fellow Missourians!!! I Started My 10 Day Pre-op Yesterday. I Have Surgery On March 12... I Am Afraid These 10 Days Will Be The Death Of Me. I Am Unable To Tolerate The Protein Dirinks. I Am Not Really Hungry, But I Am Not Drinking Either. Idi Dso Good.... At Work Yesterday, I Passed Up A Completed Catered In Breakfast, A Going Away Celebration Of Cake, Icecream And Punch And dinner. I Was Feeling Weak Towards End Of Day So I Went To Bed Early. Today, I Have Bottle Of Water In Hand With Me. Hubby Went To Eat A Tfast food Place I Watched Him Eat I Drank Water. Bought Kids Some Food To Take Home, I Went To Chinese Restaurant And Ordered Me Some Soup To Go. I Am Still Not Hungry, But Am Worried About The Lack Of Protein. Any Suggestions? Liquids...i Hate liquids Only!!!!!

  14. Well, I Made It Through My First Day Of Pre-op Liquids.... That Is It... Liquids... Althoug Did Not Drink My Protein, Still Can Not Stand The Tase Or Smell. I Am Half Way Through Day 2 Of Pre-op. I Will Have Surgery On The 12th. I Have To Make It Through These Days. My Mouth Is Dry. Oh, My Husband Went To Eat At A Fast food Place Today, I Was With Him, I Only Drank My Water That I Carried In With Me. Then We Went Somewhere Else And Bought The Kids Something To Eat. He Took Me To A Chinese Restaurant To Get Some Soup, ,,, That Worked For Me...

  15. I ended up telling another co-worker yesterday about the surgery. I had gone earlier in the week for my ekg and x ray for pre-op. she had overheard me talking to a friend to explain my rhthyms from the ekg. we work in the medical field so we do it all. She heard us say pre op and she said-- who? not you? And of course that opened the door for conversation. I advised her I really did not want others to know about this. She was familiar and was very enthusiastic about this. I received an email from her this morning, she now wants to start getting together during the evenings to go to the ymca or go walking. Plus our work has just started a walking competition between department teams and that begins on Monday, and I happen to be the captain. So this all worked out good, I have someone else I can talk to and even "walk" me through .

  16. I work in an infusion center and this is what we see every day. Infections in different areas and from different reasons. We administer iv antibiotics. Has the dr sampled the Fluid in the band? Have culters come back with what is in there? MRSA -- STAPH -- it could be that maybe the actual band or tubing was not sterile upon implant. the best thing is probably to seek advise about having it removed. For now anyway. If the infection is within inthe band system, why would someone allow it to remain? Be sure cultures have been done and make sure which ever antibiotic they have placed you on is one that the infection is susceptible to.

  17. WOW. there are a lot of people scheduled just for the month of March. Makes you think, how many people have already gone through this and the number that are yet to do so. I have only known about the LapBand for 1 year and I cannot imagine all this popularity.

  18. Yes, that was me... that was you I sat next too....

Actually, you geave me this forum website. the one I had been on I did not correspond much. Thanks, for talking to me that night. I am like you as for being so nervous. I am always petrified that I am going to die during surgery. I have had several surgies, I have always been afraid of this. That is my main concern. I will do the same, I will want to tell them never mind forget it. It is not necessary. But I would have the nagging feeling thta I just have to get through this.

I had one of our cardiologist look over my ekg today, it did have some infarctions on it, but that is nothing "real" only imitation. He said I should not worry. So I am more relieved now. My xray came back --clean. The blood work I will have drawn Monday and fax over to Dr. pitt. I t really helps working in the medical field so I do not have to go through all the torment of waiting for appointments like some others do. I just go to the right person and get it done, or do it myself.

How long did your surgery last? As for taking off work, I am scheduled to have the surgery on a Monday, an dI am off that Tuesday. that is all. I hope I can function.

Again, it was really nice to meet you.

  19. I have only been to one support meeting and that was this months.

I was at that meeting. Maybe I saw you. Where do you live? Are you from the kirksville area (I beleive that was the area)? If so, I believe we sat next to each other. If you remember, let me know where you sat. I had my 17 year old daughter with me that night...

I look forward to seeing you whenever you do go to the meetings.. I will be going on March 8th.

I am getting more nervous as the days go by. I had my chest x ray done today. Also, I had my ekg... not sure about that..... it showed some abnormalities on it. but I work with the person that did my ekg, and she said not to worry, but of course now I am really worried. maybe something is wrong and maybe if it is too bad I will not get to have surgery. I have no idea. Will have to get more inforation at work tomorrow. Or even retake the ekg....

  20. Hey Sharon! Dr. Pitt is my surgeon as well! He is an awesome doctor! In a weird way, it made me feel better to have him as my surgeon because he knows EXACTLY what I'm going through. Good luck with your upcoming surgery. If you have any questions, just ask.

So you also went through Dr. Pitt? I guess you know he had the surgery himself?! How big was he previously? He is still large... but I was not sure where he started at.... Did you have any problems? do you make it to any of the support groups on the one thursday night of the month? The next on is on March 8th. Please tell me anything you can.... how did you survive the 10 pre-op? I will be starting that soon... Not looking forward to that though. Please give me some insight to anything you can.

    thanks,

    sharon

  21. Hello again to everyone. My surgery is scheduled for March 12th. I am to start my pre-op diet on March 2nd. 10 days of liquids/liquid Protein. I have not been very fond of any of the Protein Drinks out there. The shakes are nasty and too sweet... If I can smell the vitamin/iron in the the stuff, it gags me.. even worse when I can taste it.... I even went and bought some of the non flavored Unjury protein... unflavored...yes, but still smells and taste like vitamins..... uuuggghh!! The only drink I have found that I can even tolerate, not sure about for 10 straight days though, is the Isopure zero carb drinks.. they have a variety of fruit flavored drinks... like a juice/koolaid type drink already premixed in glass bottles... they have 40g of protein and my dr only requires 20 per day... I am so nervous about surgery itself and if I am unable to follow the pre-op just right, I am a fraid I will not shrink my liver appropriately for the surgery and cause a problem.... I know that this is why we have the 10 day pre-op diet... it has been explained to me .... I understadn the importancve, but I also have no will power and I too have been planning multitudes of last suppers......... not even hungry but I act like I am.
