  1. How awesome and motivational for us new people. I cannot wait till my surgery date in may. I hope my journey is even half as great as yours! Thanks for posting !
  2. I love to hear that! I am so excited for you and for myself as well (surgury soon). It is so great to continue to read positive things and see so many people on this site who are working it!
  3. I read her book she wrote after her bypass surgery. I am not a fan of hers but I was thinking about that proceedure and wanted to know how it felt from someone who did it. I do not think she was thinking it was a majic wand or a quick fix. She followed the rules very well for a long time and lost a huge amount of weight. However, she spoke alot about how she had a huge amount of feelings come up that she use to cope with food to deal with. She started smoking pot for a while and went to a counselor weekly for a year. I think she just has so much personal issues that she looks for anything to self comfort and food is her favorite. I think her deep down self issues ande self view is very very poor. She has major issues. Hopefully she has delt with them better this time before surgury. Best of luck for her.
  4. That is the perfect way for me to look at it. I would not hesitate to pay $10,000 over and over again to help my family's health or anything. So thanks for that angle!
  5. I thought about the fact I will be saving money in food and eating out, but might be spending it on clothes, which is great! I can afford it, but the guilt is a struggle.
  6. I had the copper IUD after my first son. It lasts for 10 years and has no hormones. It is great for someone that cannot have hormones or pills or cannot remember pills well. It did increase my pain in cycles slightly. But it may be an option.
  7. Hello everyone. I am scheduled for surgery on 5/22/12. I am very excited after many years of trying to get insurance coverage for WLS and then being denied, as well as getting determined to lose it on my own, then failing, I have decided to self pay for my lap band proceedure. My husband went to the appointment with me and he said "lets do it, if it will make you happy". He is fully supportive no matter what. However, I continue to feel guilty about the money. We have been out of debt (other than our house) for years now. It took us a long time to get there. We have two paid for cars but eventually they will need work. I feel like I am taking family money and doing something selfish. I hate that feeling! On one hand, I know I will be a better mom and wife if I can lose this weight and be healthier. I want to go on bike rides with my kids and run and coach their sports teams. I cannot do that now. But on the other hand, I am taking $10,000 from the family money for cars, family vacation, and other issues just to spend on myself. Did other self payers feel this way? Was it worth it? Did the fact that you invested that much money help keep you motivated to follow the rules? DId you feel more pressure since others knew you paid for it?
  8. This is a silly question, but how do you do the little line at the end of everyone's comments that say the start weight and how much has been lost. Also, how do you attach the surgury information that seems to be on everyone's posts. Thanks for the tech lesson.
  9. My patient advocate said that any weight I lost before my first fill was "all me", it is not till the first and second fill that the band begins to work well for you. If you begin to think you are a failure you will continue to fail. Change your mindset to the fact that you are early in the process and need a fill at this time. Which appears to be totally the case. No worries, just be honest with your Dr and he can adjust you accordingly. From what I have heard, where your at is totally normal.
  10. Thank you so much for posting. I have read so many failure posts that I sometimes get scared. I am scheduled to have surgery on 5/22/12. I am very excited and ready to make changes in my life. I really feel a strong desire to fully commit to all the rules and having foods that I may never be able to eat again does not scare me. However, I have never had long term success with weight loss so I fear messing up with the band as well. It is great to read someone else's story that struggled also and then is now doing very well. 60 LB is just amazing in that amount of time. Please continue to post your progress for everyone to see. It is exactly what I needed and wanted to read. starting 270 surgery scheduled 5/22/12 goal 165 or less and size 10 pants!
  11. I havent had surgery yet but my True Results Mentor told me to consider telling little to nobody. He said people will say silly stuff like "i thought you would have lost more by now" or other stupid comments. He said it is better not to have to explain alot to anyone and have a mentor to vent to. He said it is hard with everyone watching to see how you do and judging along the way. I am very open and I have told 5 co-workers and my family (except my dad - he will be mean about it). I am sure the word is around more now that I am getting it. I did so b/c I dont care that much what others think, I have great friends that like me anyway, and I dont want to lie about why I am eating, acting and looking different. But that is just what I think will work for me. I am scheduled 5/22/12.
  12. I have not had my band yet (scheduled 5/22/12). However, I am confused. i keep reading about everyone wanting to get to restriction. However, I thought restriction meant you were on read zone and that the green zone meant no restriction and just no hunger. I think you dont have to have restriction to be doing well (from all I have read). You really just need to not feel hungry. If you are trusting restriction to stop you from eating, it may be that you are not following the rules. However, I could be totally wrong, that is why I am asking.....Thanks for correcting me if I am wrong or explaining this restriction issue more.
  13. I am being banded 5/22/12. I am very excited and nervous. I would like to ask people who have already been banded a few questions. First, what was the first 3 months like? How much weight did you lose? Second, I have a vacation already scheduled with my husband and friends at 7 weeks post surgery. It should be shortly after my first fill. What should I expect? Should I pack certain foods/drinks in case I have restriction? I have already began to work on some of the rules to prepare my brain. I eat one bite and wait a minute till the next. This has already reduced the amount of food I eat b/c I dont want to eat for 2 hours and I get the full feeling faster or before I am done with my plate. Also, my food gets cold and loses some appeal. I have not dont it every meal but I am getting there. My bites are not as small as they will have to be with the band. I feel like the rules are "doable" but I also get scared when I read how many people have not lost weight. I dont want to fail again. Please let me know what your first 90 days was like, what I can expect in lifestyle and weight loss and what I can do to prepare more mentally! Thanks! Katy (banded scheduled 5/22/12 - My highest weight was 306. I went for first appt and was at 270 and now am at 267, I hope to lose 100 to 110 lbs)
  14. Thanks everyone. I love how encouraging this forum is! Will be here a lot!
  15. My name is Katy. I live is Central Texas. I have 2 children, 6 year old boy and a 2 year old daughter. I am married to my best friend for 11 years this weekend. I have struggled with my weight since I was 18 years old. I have tried every single diet including rx meds (all types) since that time. It has been difficult for me. I have never given up and am always trying to work out and eat right. I just dont success constantly. I looked into gastric bypass 8 years ago but I was declined by insurance and I am glad b/c it seems scary now to alter my body so drastically to cut my stomack and change the way it functions. I am set for surgury on 5/22/12. I had to set it so far out so I could come out with teh down payment for True Results. I am scheduled to have my proceedure with Dr. Alex Esquviel in Austin, Texas. My mentor is Paul and he is fantastic. My husband is very supportive and loving. I am so excited and I wish I did not have to wait 3 months. I have 108 lbs (i want to get to 160) to lose and I am hopefull it can be done. It looks like alot of people hit their goal weight while others lose slowly and dont get there. I fear failing at this more than anything. I am so determined to follow the rules. I am already trying to eat slower and chew slower to train my mind correct habits. My wishes: Cut up my Lane Bryant Card Buy a pair of jeans at a normal store run a 5k in 12 months play with my son and daugther instead of being so tired when I get home Not feel embarrassed all the time walk with confidence buy a pair of shorts Hire divorce attorneys for my thighs so they have a nice and quick seperation! wear high heals to work more without bringing other shoes to change into by lunch Not hide in pictures or videos Feel proud of my acoompilshments THose are just a few.........
  16. This is my first post and I am new to the site. I am also set for May 22, 2012. I am self pay and had to come up with a down payment and needed time to do so. Also I have a work training obligation that goes through until first of May. I am hating this wait. I am so excited to get started and see results. I have already tried to make major eating changes to get ready. However, I just cannot wait. Here are some of my initial goals: -Cut up my Lane Bryant Credit Card -Buy my first pair of jeans in a regular store -run a whole lap around the track without stopping! I want to have a year goal of running a 5k -6 month goal of buying a pair of shorts! I just wish my journey can start now. I am glad I have found this site. I will be spending some time here. I have also watched a ton of You Tube Lap Band journeys which help prove to me that I can do it too! Anyone else out there that has to wait until May? -
