  1. I'm three weeks out and have only lost about 20 pounds so far but I have to say that it has ALREADY made a difference for me!! I already feel better about myself and can tell that my tummy has shrunk already as well. Needless to say, my husband is enjoying this new confidence as well!!!! ;) So, I think the answer to your question is definitely YES!! Anxious to see what a difference the next 20 pounds makes! Good luck to you!

  2. Those of you already banded how are the first weeks?

    Hey dolphintattoo,

I'm one week out today! So far I have done really well! I feel great! I was able to stop my pain meds after two days and I drove last night for the first time. I'm losing about a pound a day right now-- can't seem to stay off the scale!:) I'm trying to cut back on the weighing 'cause I know that's gonna slow down soon. I'm still on "liquids" but my doc classified that as anything that would go through a straw so I've been using the Magic Bullet to purée some thicker Soups and chilis these last couple of days. I'm not getting in as much Water as I should just yet but I'm working on that. I'm doing some lite housework and went to the grocery last night--- I do still wear out easily and luckily don't go back to work until next Monday the 28th. Overall, I feel great and this has absolutely been one if the BEST things vie ever done for myself! Just wished I had done it sooner! Hang in there-- it gets better and I'm positive it's gonna be worth it!

  3. Hey dani_nyc! Welcome! You will find lots of encouragement here! It took me a little over a year to go through the process too so I know where you're coming from! I was banded last Tuesday, Jan15th! So far, so good! I got nervous at first too but the closer it got the more peaceful I was with my decision. I think it was because I realized that I was at the point that something had to change and I just needed that extra boost that the band could give. It's not easy-- it's going to be hard work all the way but I think if we've finally reached that point of truly being ready--- we WILL be successful this time around! Don't know if my rambling helped much but I will be glad to answer it questions you might have and if I don't know I'm sure someone on here does! So good luck and stay in touch!

  4. Still dealing with gas especially at night. I'm tired because I can't sleep through the night. I see my doctor for my followup on Monday. Glad I did it but would like my energy back. Have to keep in mind this was major surgery and it will take a while to get back to where I was. Not sure I'm ready to return to work next week if the gas doesn't quit and let me sleep.< /p>

I don't go back to work until the 28th and I've been wondering how some people have been able to go back to work so quickly. I feel pretty good but I still tire out easily!

  5. R-Sheryl and gowalking, good luck tomorrow! Mine is on Tuesday! Can't believe it is almost here! I've been having some trouble with either my potassium or B12 levels-- not sure which! I've been waking up with my hands numb and this is what was happening when I originally found out those two things were low. I called my surgeon on Friday. He said he would do extensive blood work on Tuesday morning before he puts me under. So, if it crosses anybody's mind please say a prayer for me that these things will be ok and my surgery can go forth as planned and won't have to be rescheduled!

  6. Hey Erin! Today is day 7 of pre op diet for me. I had a lot of those same feelings before actually starting! Has it been hard? Not gonna lie--- it definitely has! But I've been stronger than I thought I could be! Have I been totally perfect on it? Not gonna lie about that either! I have put a couple of cheezits in my mouth and let them melt. Sunday night, I still had enough calories and fat grams to eat a baked potato with butter and sour cream from Wendy's with my family (nurse at my surgeon's office said that I needed to mostly be concerned about the fat). Have I been really hungry at times? Oh yeah!!!! But I'm doing it for the most part! I've lost about 6 pounds so far. I just keep thinking about the end result-- God willing, this time next week I will be on the "other" side--- banded and on my way to a healthier me! I just think that if I've gotten to this point(being banded), I need to do EVERYTHING possible to make it work. You can do it, too! Hang in there!

  7. Best wishes to you too, Onamission and all the rest of you as well! My date is Jan15. I started my two week liquid diet today. I have been trying to get my insurance approval for a year so I understand what you mean about patience! Been kinda hungry today--- just trying to hold on to the thought that two weeks from today my surgery will be over by now! I'm anxious to hear all about all of your journeys.

  8. Thank you, SaltLife! Went to the hospital today to get all the pre op paperwork and blood work done! Then went shopping for the things I will need to start the diet tomorrow! Just ready to get on with it and start this new phase of my life. Hopefully, that proverbial New Year's resolution will be fulfilled this year--- for all of us! Thanks for the encouragement!

  9. Really been thinking about the pre op diet today! I start it Tuesday and I kinda feel like I'm in mourning right now thinking about it! I know that surely I can do it if others before me have but it just seems so daunting right now! Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers that I can get through this phase! It would be greatly appreciated!

  10. Just hang in there! I THOUGHT I was doing everything my insurance required and when I came to what I thought would be time for my insurance to approve, I found out that had not actually done what they wanted so I had to start the process all over again! I finally got approval the week of Thanksgiving and will actually have surgery on Jan.15th( I started this process right after Thanksgiving LAST year!)! So just stay positive-- it will happen!

  11. I know what you mean! I don't know why anyone would think this is the "easy" way out! I mean my goodness, who would just opt for major surgery if they didn't feel like it was the only way! Obviously, we tried over and over again! And what they don't seem to realize is there will still be plenty of hard work even with the band! You will still have choices to make-- what you eat, are you gonna exercise and so forth. I think it's really just a form if jealousy or insecurity on their part so they have to make you feel rotten, too! Oh, well! That's why this site exists--- to provide support! I know everything will go just fine for you! Good luck and keep in touch!

  12. Hello! My surgery is scheduled for Jan.15. I start my liquid diet on Jan. 1st. I'm really dreading that part! My cousin had lap band in July and she assured me it woukd be ok. She also said the first couple of days were the hardest! Good luck! I will be interested in hearing how your surgery goes!

  13. Congratulations! My surgery is planned for Jan15. I seem to be having all those same emotions and feelings you described! I haven't told very many people either. I just want to wait and see how it goes. I guess I'm a little bit afraid of another failure and little bit afraid of people talking about it being an "easy" way out. I will tell when I'm ready until then, people will just think I'm getting a hernia repaired--- which is true.

I'm a little concerned about the 2 week liquid diet. Do you have to do this as well?

  14. So glad to see this topic! I've been wondering the same thing. I teach kindergarten and just got approved for my surgery. It will either be on Dec. 18th or Jan.15. My last day of school before the break is Dec. 19th-- the day after surgery. There are so many things going on at this time of year, like hosting a family get together, that I have been leaning more toward the Jan. date--- just hate to take off so much time from school. My surgeon's office will let me know next week which date for sure. I'm kinda worried about the 2 week liquid diet before the surgery as well-- wondering if I will be weak and jittery and how that will affect my classroom. Good luck with your surgery!
