    Vancouver Area Bandsters

Nadia. I don't have anyone to exercise, etc either. My friends are either very ill or live too far away. So what I did, I purchased a PS3 (you could get a WII) When I am on the computer or PS3, I totally forget about food. When I sit infront of the TV, I immediately want to eat. I also purchased a treadmill which I keep in the basement and try to make a point of walking in the morning. If you don't have access to a treadmill, start by making yourself go for a walk. Don't worry about calories blah blah blah. Just go out and enjoy the sun and spring. Now is the time for you to come to the meetings and vent. Also, people can probably give you a new slant on things. For instance, spend time on the computer and start recording what you eat on fitday everyday. Be totally honest. The last thing, e mail me - I have a web cam I can set up if you have one. I might be able to at least keep you out of the frig. Anyway see you next month.:frown::thumbup:

Had our monthly meeting and 3 showed up. We discussed what could be done to get the group out. Hey people, please consider coming back to attend the Lions Gate Meetings. Nothing can match talking with people in similar circumstances. Whether you are successful, plateauing, or gaining we all need the strokes of others. We talked about some members living too far away, well don't forget Timmers is starting a group in Richmond. The Lions Gate Hospital is easy to get to for anyone new to the bandster issues. Hope to see you all next month.

    Dr. in Calgary

Hey candies: Government paying for the lapband is a dream. They call the gastric bypass the golden standard. I think goverments don't like the aftercare bands require as well, most yahoos still think obesity can be "cured by not eating'. Anyway, there are clinics closer to you in Winnipeg and Vancouver. Check them out.

No worries Tim. You are not responsible for our group going downhill. I think that most of the bandsters live over your way. Let's face it, convenience is half the battle in attending support meetings. I wish you well when you graduate and you find your dream job.

Well done Tim and thanks. Your new website is fantastic and I look forward to tuning in regularly. If the Lions Gate support group fails, you will likely see me at yours. I referred two bandsters this week to your meeting. I hope they attend to support you. :frown::thumbup::frown::thumbup:

    New 60+ Thread

Hi: Sure there is a way to minimize carbs. Make sure you eat pure protein and take a vitamin. ie. This is what I eat Bkft: 1 egg, 1 WW bread - cheeze spread no marg.or butter Snack: 1 no fat yogurt Lunch: Iso Pro drink plus 4 oz shrimp 3:00: Tea + 1/2 ww bagel with cream cheese low fat Dinner: 3 oz fish with a few veggies. I come in with low carb at 1200 or less. As for eating only 800 a day, that is too low. Increase your protein until you come in around 1,000. That leaves 200 calories for miscounting.

Slow Users-Banded a year or more

You may think of yourself as a slow loser LOL; congratulations on breaking the 100. I was banded Feb. 0l/07 and am only in the 93 lb range. Seems like a lifetime, but when I look back and see what has been accomplished, slow or fast the rewards are worth it.

Names not my forte. Maybe Richmond/Vancouver Bandsters? I think of "Vancouver" as the entire area which includes outlying suburbs. Whatever you pick the name is not as important as your efforts to start a support group.

Well done Tim. Support groups are so urgently needed and your efforts should be commended. I have only one suggestion and that is to name your group to include everyone. Someone reading "Richmond Bandsters" may be excluded and not come. Sensitive lot that we are LOL. Doreen

Congratulations to you both. Your journeys have just begun, but you both will find you will take different paths. Some of us loose very quickly others not so but the end results is better self and better health. As for the band having fluid after surgery, I was told the surgeon tests the tubing and band so there may be some in there. I found I was restricted right from the start so assume I did have some fill. Again go gals go.

    Exercise article

There is an excellent article on the value of exercise to weight loss in our morning paper. Studies have shown that exercise albeit good for the internal organs and muscles, contributes little or nothing to weight loss. It takes an inordinate amount of vigourous exercise to use up 300 calories usually causing injury to the joints of the obese. I wholeheartedly agree with this study as I have injured myself time and time again. Only by reducing calories have I lost weight. I no longer listen to the guilt trip others try to put on me. This article has bouyed my spirits.

You are welcome. Learn early to learn your signals of fullness. Although tempting, when you feel the slight pressure push the food away. Some people have other signals such as sneezing, hiccups, of course, pain. When you receive a fill, take it very easy. I had .5 cc fill and it was over a week before I felt the tightness. After vomiting every day, I had it removed. On the first fill, you will be able to take more food but as the fills continue it becomes very much essential that you know your signals. Not everyone is a "slow learner" when it comes to chewing, I am hoping you are a fast learner. Go bandster go!

Yes, I have many times. Don't allow yourself to get stuck at any cost. Vomiting is not good for the band or your stomach. Chew, chew, chew. I got stuck last year and just recently this year and the first time it was 16 vomits to clear and 8 the second time. The first, I drove to Washington state to have afluro to make sure the band had not slipped. Where I used to vomit every few days, I now am months but it is still dangerous. Now after the warnings, here is what I feel like. When I feel a pressure in my pouch, I should stop eating but if I keep packing the pain really sets in. I have tried the chicken dance but this dance although others are successful, never works for me. If the pain become too much in say 30 minutes, I have to force myself to "PB" (vomit). Sometimes I clear the pouch, but if I have not chewed thoroughly enough, the narrow opening that is allowed by the band is closed either by the stomach or the food. I don't know which. I think food gets stuck in the "bottleneck" and can not be easily moved. Whatever it is unpleasant so please be one of the few to be able to brag "I never throw up".

Antonelle - thinking of you and waiting for your post to see how you are doing. Some people have pain others have none. I had no pain. Still don't. If you have gas pains, try gas X or something similar. The post surgery instructions told me to walk every hour. Maybe the reason I had no pain. Soon you will be in bandland.

I drank a radio active liquid which allowed the technician nurse to see the band and watch the liquid go down. the band was still in place and had not slipped but with a 5.5 cc fill, they felt I was tight enough and not to take any more fill. I have had 5.5 for 3 years now. I will be thinking of you Antonella - please post as soon as you are able.

So About That Tiger Woods Apology?

infedelity is a personal thing between man and wife. The media should be ashamed of themselves meddling like they do. The sponsors can make their own decisions without the help of the media.

popcorn is OK, it is what they put on it. When all other restaurants are getting into "healthy eating" you would think the theatres would too. Should be a healthy snack bar but the greatest advice is eat before you go. Your pouch won't let you eat more.

    Weird

Right on Sparten but in defense I would suggest her clinic should not have wiped her out. Telling her to go to the doctor was great advice, but deleting her post made it seems like she had done something wrong. Which in my opinion she did nothing wrong.

I accidently swallowed a piece of gristle on a piece of ham. It happened to me last year and it took 16 tries before I could get it unstuck. So I went to Seattle and had a fluoro. This time thank goodness I was able to get rid of it after 8 tries. I am sore but I am able to drink and eat IF I CHEW CHEW CHEW. Of course this happened to me at dinner time so I was in the BR rather than in my car going to the meeting. Thanks for asking. I sure hope other reading this post know that to relearn how to eat is no easy matter. I am getting better but am a slow learner.
  23. Doddie63

    Weird

They did the same with me. I posted that I wanted to know how others took ASA because of potential bleeding. As our pouch is small, I wanted suggestions. My doctor has no advice as he has no knowledge of the band. They deleted my post and said the same about medical advice. To me who better to get information from than our own.

Hi babe: Yes, I missed coming as well but I had myself stuck. It would not go down and would not come up. I am so sore today ----when will I ever learn. Thanks for the concern. Appreciate it.
