  1. I had my Dr's appt on August 1st and my surgery was scheduled for August 20th. My insurance covered my surgery. Good luck to you and let us know how everything goes.
  2. Didn't know which section to post this under so I posted it here! My sister is looking into getting the lap band and her insurance will cover it 100% after she gets a dietician evaluation, sleep study and psych evaluation. Her question is what goes on during these test. I am banded but did not have to do any of these prior to being banded, so I am really no help to her about these topics. So any replies will be wonderful!!!!! THANKS..

    Having a time with meat

I am not a seafood eater, but I will eat Luby's fish. I have not thought of that as a good protien, but it is!! I can handle a fish stick if there is not any black in it; so I am definetly going to get some and see if they will go down. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that has a hard time with meat. Not that I am glad that you can't eat meat, just to know that I am not the only one. I hope all goes well for you...and me in that case. Thanks to everyone that has helped me along my way...It is weird that people I have never met have a special place in my heart.

    Having a time with meat

Maybe I am not losing because I am not eating a whole lot. What is the best thing I can do for getting my protein in? I guess I could do more ground meat suppers instead of grilled meat. Do you think is is possible for me to be 35 lbs lighter in 6 months?

    Breakfast?

Normally I do not eat breakfast....I know it is the most important meal of the day...but, I can't. I usually have an ice tea from Sonic with sweet and low. But, no solids....they just won't go down..

    just had surgery friday

You are fine!!! That gurgling is completely normal. I didn't want to eat or drink after my surgery either. After any surgery it is normal to feel that way....they just cut you!!! You will do fine. The diarrhea is probably from all the fluids they pumped through you with IV's in the hospital. You can't have a solid stool if you have only had liquids going through your body. You are normal! and you will do fine.....keep posting and take care
  8. Well, let's see..if you read my other post about not knowing what is going on here is the verdict. I was scheduled for a fill today and since the last 2-3 weeks I have been unable to eat I decided to not get a fill and just let him check the band and make sure that nothing was wrong. The band was in place and had not slipped. I did the bariam swallow and my opening was about the size of a thread. So he decided to take some out:( I asked him if I could just stay like I was for a week and do only liquids, but he was not fond of that. So insted of getting a fill I got unfilled. I was a little depressed and upset but he reassured me that in 3-4 weeks I could just call him and he will give me another fill. By the way the 7 lbs turned into 9 as of tonight. So that is a total of 39:D :D So that is my story!! Talk again soon!

Had to get some taken out

Well they say after you have had a fill for a while they seem to tighten up; but, I would say just wait for a while and see if things get better. I waited for a while before I did anything, but then I could not handle it. So, I would say try and stay on liquids and see how it goes...let me know. Best of luck to you!!

    swallow study thursday

Hey Shelly!! I don't understand the food going through the band right after you swallow it either. I have a thread called food getting stuck that I was questioning where the food actually gets stuck. When you swallow you can feel it getting stuck and then sloooowly going through the band.....my thing is IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE GOING THROUGH THE BAND WHEN YOU FIRST SWALLOW IT!!! So why is it? I would like to go under fluro and take a bite of real food and not the barium to see how solids do and not just liquid.....Well, if you ever get an answer pass it to me...in the meantime, Take Care:confused:

    Lack of Restriction...symptoms...

I just wanted to add that my Dr. said that the little part of the stomach at the top above that band will not stretch. The pt's that have the RNY either have a bigger pouch then us or their pouch is further down where the stomach will stretch. Every dr may say something different, just wanted to add what mine said:cool:

    Too complacent

That is sooo crazy that you posted that. I have lost 35 lbs and it seems like it has just stopped; I am scared to get another fill cause I don't want to be too tight. I am exactly where you are so I am not a good person for encouargement. I am hoping to loose another 35 lbs by June and so far it is not looking good. I am hoping that the wieght loss kicks in pretty soon for me. I have dropped from a 22 to a 16 in pants size and can get in a 14 on some pants. So that is exciting, but I really don't want to stop here. So what should we do?????

I don't know but from the look of your picture you don't look like you need the lap band surgery:p

    Have Surgery Date, SCARED

That one...I read it to and it had nothing to do with the Lap band surgery. It had to do with the anesthesiologist not giving enough of the good drugs:) You are right if he would have been having any other surgery the same thing could have happened. Just email her and tell her one day you will be skinny and then smile!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Have Surgery Date, SCARED

The chances of you dying by not having the surgery is greater than you dying having the surgery. If you are overweight, you have a higher risk for complications later. I am 26 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes, I have been off my medication since I have had the surgery. 26 is young to live the rest of my life with diabetes and on meds. Your family and friends should stand behind your decision no matter what. It is your life, not theirs. Are you sure they are talking about the lap band and not the gastric bypass or the other surgeries? Explain to them in full detail how the surgery works, that your body absorbs all the food that you take in, it does not just go through you. If you do have problems with the band remember it is a completely reversible procedure. After you explain everything to them let them know that you don't want to hear anything negative that you have made up your mind. Best of luck to you and I hope that you do go ahead with the surgery. Don't get discouarged the light at the end of the tunnel is now closer to you than it was a month ago!!! Keep your head high and know that what ever you chose your family and friends should back you all the way; after all if you can't count on them who else do you have? US!!! Lapbandtalk.com......Just keep smiling...Just keep smiling....Just keep smiling....(If you have seen Finding Nemo)!!!

    fill or not??

Maybe if you just get a teeny tiny bit you will jump start your weight loss and still be able to eat. Things should not get stuck if you chew chew chew and take smaller bites. When did you have your surgery? Get the fill and only stick to foods that you know you can eat. Don't try any new foods when you are around people that don't know about your surgery. I am very leary about trying new things. Hope all goes well with you, keep us updated.

    Got my 3rd fill!

Well, I went to the Dr on Friday and a got another fill. I am now at 2cc's. Not nearly as restriced as when I had 2.25; but at least I can drink now:) I am ready to start shrinking!!! I gained 2-3 lbs after he took out some of my fill on Dec 29, so hopefully I start losing again! I have been kinda discouarged lately, well since he took some of my saline out. I was really losing when I was that tight, then I gained some and was really hoping to have dropped at least a pound by today! But no such luck, maybe in the morning I will get on the scale and I will be down 5 lbs.. Till next time....

    Got my 3rd fill!

I was so restricted that I could not chew gum, It made to much saliva for me to swallow. My opening was the size of a thread. So, yes when he took some out I could eat. In the morning time I could not even drink anything and in the afternoons I could drink, just really slow. If you hit the button on the right side of this post that says view other posts by this user you can read what I have posted about the fills and then my unfill. There is no way I can eat a sandwich, I can't eat bread, even after he took some of my fill out, I tried bread and it got stuck. How much have you lost? 10 lbs from your goal weight is wonderful! Your stomach might just be swollen from irritation and if you try to go on liquids for a couple of days it might go back to normal. I would try and do liquids for 3-4 days and see if that makes a difference. I don't think I would get some taken out till I have tried the liquids. Also, stress has alot to do with the restriction...Are u stressed? Keep in touch and let me know how things go.....Good Luck to you.

    Got my 3rd fill!

Thanks Vera!! I think it is gonna work for me. I didn't have breakfast today and for lunch I had 1 eggroll from Jack in the Box with alot of Buttermilk house dressing so it would go down. I had also ordered a side salad, but did not even open it!! So maybe I will start losing again!

    Lap Band Death

A section of small intestine is then attached to the smaller stomach pouch. Did you read that part in the story?? My surgery did not include that!! At least I hope not. Did yours??
