  1. I just made it home. The pain is bearable. I found out that cold liquid makes my stomach hurt. It feels better when I drink hot or warm liquids. Other than that everything is fine. I'll update more when I rest up.

My sleeve is the same. Room temp or warm liquids. I'm one week post op. Are you having trouble getting your liquids in? And yes walk walk walk...

Good luck on your new beginning!

  2. Heading back home today after surgery on the 16th. I was amazed how good I feel today in comparison to how terrible I felt yesterday before my drain was removed! I do still have soreness at the Left drain site' date=' but once that drain was removed - hallelujuah![/quote']

Ya that drain pain is something else. Glad it all went well for you. That first day after surgery was rough but I felt amazing the day I flew home. Dr A and his staff are great. Whatever his method is, it works!

Prayers your way for a safe return home...

  3. Was anyone still in pain one week out. My incinsion on my left side is the still very painful!

I am a week out as well and I have some off and on pain in the middle low incision. Ironically it's the only one that is bruised. No other pain though... I believe it's typical to have pain somewhere after your body goes through that.

  4. My name is Hutch - I have a tentative date of May 9th with Dr Aceeves in Mexi -Cali

I am a truck driver and struggle with weight loss so I have made the decision to be sleeved.

I am nervous but not scared. I have been 100 lbs overweight for the last 10 years and I have tried every diet imaginable - and they work for a minute and then fail. I have no one to blame but myself. I have diabetes' date=' sleep apnea, asthma and planter faciatias in my feet which causes me alot of pain. I hope and pray that after the surgery with time these conditions that I mention will go away.

I recently got married to a beautiful woman that was sleeved in Janurary,2010- and when she said that I needed to get a passport I thought she was excited about going on vacation but little did I know she had other plans - I am happy though because I feel that this is the best decision for me and for us to live a long and healthy life together.

If you all will join me in my upcoming journey I would greatly appreciate all of ur help and support.

    Thank you and God bless,

    Hutch

    Hutch,

Had my VSG on 4/12 by Dr Aceves. Everything went great and it was a great experience. The whole group of people there were awesome. You'll be fine and in perfect hands. I am recovering very well with minimal to no pain. Message me if you want any info or have any questions!

Congrats on your decision and prayers your way!

  5. Had my sleeve on 4/12 and surprisingly only hurt for about a day or two. Feeling good when I eat/drink. It's hard being around the people eating other things tho' date=' as my nose still works and it smells great! Haven't weighed myself yet, bug know I already lost weight and am focusing on healing and learning now, not the numbers...YET. Looking for friends to just chit chat with.[/quote']

I was sleeved on 4/12 also. The smells are there but my sleeve wants no part of it. I'm doing about the same and feeling great. Helped my son mow the lawn last night, but hoping I don't over do it!

    Congrats on your new beginning!

  6. Ugh! Day before surgery' date=' on a liquid diet and they are having a potluck at work. It smells so good..I will not give in to temptation, i will not give in to temptation :-)[/quote']

I'm 5 days out and last night my wife made spaghetti and the house smelled amazing. I came in from walking and drank my broth. Honestly it smelled great but my sleeve was saying "no thanks", I hope you get that same sensation AND I hope I can keep that sensation for a long time!

Good Luck and congrats on your new beginning!

  7. Surgery was for me this morning at 9am with Dr Aceves' date=' and it has been a first class experience!

I live in AZ, so my husband and I made the 4 hour drive to Calexico yesterday, where we were picked up by the weekend driver Ramon at about 1:15p for the short drive over the border to Mexicali. Hubby was a little tripped out when the border guard opened our suitcase and laptop case to have a look, but nothing happened.

After arriving at Hospital Almater, Yolanda met us at the front door - what a woman! God bless her, she truely has a heart for what she does and the people she helps. I was whisked through preop labs, xray, ekg and paperwork with professionalisim and effeciency - wow! As a US RN, I was pleasantly boggled.

After tests, we were delivered to the very clean (very swank!) Crowne Plaza Mexicali, where we vegetated and later had supper in the Colorado Room (steak was ...divine!).

Hotel driver delivered us back to Hospital Almater at 7am, where we were again treated like celebrities! Met the Internist, Anesthesiologist (Garcia?), Dr Campos and Dr Aceves. Everyone kept appologizing for not meeting me the day before, as we arrived on a Sunday...no problem! In the Surgeon's offices I have worked in, I was lucky to see the doc more than once a day....and I was his nurse!

After a shot of Lovenox and a primer on how to use the spirometer, I was off the surgery. Dr Garcia got my hand IV on the first stick - major props to him, never had anyone be able to get a patent hand IV on me before, wooo! Sergio is one of the OR RNs, and he was such a comforting presence. Dr Garcia was having a tough time finding a good place to insert my spinal block while lying on my side, so he gave me some IV Versed and had me sit up with Sergio holding (wow, that man smells good!) They had me lay down and....next thing I knew, I was waking up in recovery with an oxygen mask (oh how I hate those!) And some amazing nurse, who I didn't get her name, stroking my hair.....purrrrrr.

After another hour in recovery, they wheeled me back to my room and to my waiting husband....I have never been so happy to see that man my entire life! I havn't had pain per se, but mostly some discomfort and soreness at the drain site on my left upper abdomen. I have 4 lap incisions in total, but it's as if the other 3 don't exist, lol.

No nausea, but up until about 15 min ago I still couldn't feel my feet, so I haven't walked yet. Gonna finish this post now so I can "dangle" for a bit, lol.

Good luck to everyone! If anyone has questions, PM me and I will answer as I am awake[/quote']

I just got home Sunday and the first full day is a bit tough, but definitely walk (as soon as you get your legs back) lol...

The staff is amazing and I can attest to all of your comments thus far. Including the steak in the Colorado Room! The staff is awesome and they cleaned my room like 4 times a day. I was in Room 24 end of the hall and very quiet. That place is soooo peaceful at night so walk all around.

Glad you are recovering nicely. Not sure how they do all they do, but I was mowing the yard tonight! Yep surgery was the 12th and mowing the 16th!

    Please keep us updated!

  8. In Mexicali on day 3... Only pain I've had at all is this freaking drain tube. Once it's out I will be thrilled. I had some nausea the first night but none since. Walk walk walk and u will get everything moving. I had the shoulder pain on day one but my wife put pressure on the spot and it subsided. Everything has went great. We walked a few blocks yesterday outside in the nice warm weather.

Dr. Aceves and his staff are wonderful and u only need to know a hint of Spanish for the evening shift. Get the " I translate " app if you have an iPhone... They appreciate it!

Have an X-ray this morning and get my drain out so I am looking forward to that. Strength is back today as well.

Pre-op was the 11th and surgery the 12th. I go home the 15th

  9. Back in my room! Other than my legs taking their sweet time to wake up from the morphin shot, I feel pretty good. Feel like someone punched me in the sternum, but that was expected. Feeling fantastic!!!! No pain meds right now but may take them for bed time... Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes...

  10. Hello Fellow April Sleevers!

I'm having my sleeve surgery on Wednesday. I lost 6 lbs on the pre-op diet so far. Hooray!!!! I'm having my surgery with Dr. Fernando Garcia in Tijuana' date=' Mexico (self-pay). I fly to San Diego tomorrow. Say a prayer for me that all goes well.

I wish you all much success and Welcome to the loser's bench!!!![/quote']

Prayers your way! I leave for Mexicali Wednesday morning for surgery on Thursday... Good luck to you.

  11. I've had my food "funeral" and really went all out over the weekend. My one week out Atkins style diet starts in the morning. I've done Atkins in the past, so I'm ready for it. Will be in Mexicali with Dr. Aceves a week from Wednesday. Honestly I'm not near as nervous as my fiancé... I've actually had a few family members try to talk me outta of this (albeit all obese family members) so I was wondering... Those of you that decided to tell some people, how did that convo go? In my situation, the people that know me best knew that if I was at the point to tell them, the decision was made for good!

Over the weekend I was at my grandparents house having lunch with my fiancé. We never really talked about the surgery but talked about the time frame. I got up to go to the bathroom and my grandma gets all in my fiancés ear about me backing out. She said you know him, it ain't happening! I Love her, she knows me so well... It was all quiet when I returned to the kitchen table!

  12. April 12th in the house! I guess you could say I am Anxious more than anything. Never had any type of surgery, but I think of the greater outcome. I think doing my research and being on this forum have greatly prepared me mentally. Physically I will prepare for the worst and hope for the best... Not gonna spend hours worrying about that part. I'm just ready to get this party started and be the person on the outside that I am on the inside... I've been competitive my whole life, and I will tame the sleeve! Hahaha
