  1. I understand your situation. Ibwas banded in 2007 had to have a revision in April this year to fix my slipped band and a hernia. Have i lost any weight since then? Nope sure havent. Very frustrated. I am trying to be careful as to what i eat and try to exercise everyday. But this time everything is different and the fills are smaller to help keep my band from slipping again. Any time you want to chat let me know. We all need the support cause its never easy no matter if this is new or not.

    Good Luck

  2. Hi April. I had a similar situation with my band back in April and had it revised. I am 38 as well...not married but live with my BF and his 2 kids and my son. I was originally banded in May 2007 and since being revised things have been different. I am having a really gard time loosing the weight i have put on over the last 2years. I am trying to exercise everyday but somedays is harder then others. But with that if you need to talk or want the support from someone with a similiar situation im here for you.

    Good Luck

  3. paula84mail.....you need to let your doc know whats going on. there is possibility if its caught soon enough you can have your band revised.....and what I mean by that is your doc can go in and possibly move your band up. I have been having with my band for the last several years with several slips and I went on Monday to have a fill after having my band empty since Aug last year and found that the upper pouch of my stomach has fallen over my band. I am going in April for a planned revision.....but if my doc gets in there and there is too much damage he will have to take my band out all together. I am hopeful that he can just move it up some and I can continue on my journey. So until surgery I am trying to be very careful with what I eat cause I really don't want my band removed. So please talk to your doc and let them know.

  4. Hello Everyone! I was banded in 2007 and weighed 332lbs day of surgery....and the lowest I got to before having complications with my band in 2010 was 163 pounds. I loved how I felt and how I looked and how easy it was to go shopping and say....yes that size 10/12 will fit...nope I don't need to try it on. But in late 2010 I started having reflux really bad and some severe stabbing pains on my left side. Doc thought it was my gallbladder....had it out, complete unfill for this surgery and I put on a little weight. Started getting my band filled back up to where I was at before surgery and started having the reflux issues again really bad and was gaining weight quickly not loosing. Doc said oh your band has slipped and you have severe dilation and you will have to be completely unfilled to let your stomach rest and let the band to move back into place.

This has happened 3 times in the last 3 years to where now I have put back on about 100lbs and hate the way I look....hate having to go to the store and buying bigger cloths knowing I have a closet full of cloths that don't fit. In October I met with a new Doc and got his opinion and he said since my band has never been fixed....he could try that but there's no guarantee it will stop slipping cause once it slips the first time it more then likely will slip again. So shame on my original doc for not realizing this and fixing it.

So new doc and I have talked and I have decided I don't want to take any chances of more slippage so I have decided to have a revision to RNY. The case worker at new Doc office submitted request to insurance for approval ( my employer has exclusions built into our insurance not allowing these procedures so I thought for sure it would be denied) Called Michelle yesterday (12/10) to see if she had heard anything and when she called back I could hardly believe what she told me. She said I had been approved for the revision and as soon as she gets the formal written letter from UHC they will schedule my pre-op and then my surgery which should happen before Jan 30th. A little hesitant on what she told me I waited a little while and called UHC myself....fully expecting to be told no....surgery is not approved and that somehow what Michelle was told was a mistake but to my surprise they told me I had been approved on 11/23 for the surgery.

I can hardly believe it, it has been a long 6 months of my band being empty...eating cause im stressed, anxious, and depressed that my tool that worked so well in the beginning was no longer working and thinking I would have to come up with 20K to have the revision. I know that is great news and I sit here patiently waiting for the doc office to call and get me scheduled.....but I still have a lot of hesitation and waiting for the other shoe to drop to say....oh we are sorry there has been a mistake....your surgery is not approved and at that point I think I would rather just crawl in a hole. So Im trying to be patient but its so hard and I keep praying my revision surgery really is approved and is going to happen.

So here's to my patients holding out a little more for me and hoping the official letter comes soon. Wishing everyone continued success with their decisions and procedures!

  5. Just from personal experience it sometimes takes a few days or even a couple weeks for you to really feel if your recent fill is too much or just right. Based on what you are experiencing I wouldn't say your band has slipped but that you are too tight and need to have some of your last fill taken out. I have experienced a slipped band (several times) and have not had any of the issues you have mentioned. Good Luck at the doctor.

  6. AmandaC86 I completely understand how you feel. I had my surgery in may 2007 and by the end of 2009 beginning of 2010 I had lost a total of 173 pounds. I started having some sharp pains in my leftside.....ended up having my gallbladder out and for that surgery I had to be unfilled. Of course as most of us know when you get unfilled you have a tendency to gain weight cause you get/feel hungry....I gained some weight back but over the next several months had some fills and started loosing the weight I had gained back. But during that time I started having reflux really bad.....and that was caused by the dr over filling me too fast....needed smaller amounts added instead of taking me back up to where I was so quickly. So I had to be unfilled again to correct the pouch dilatation and slippage.....that was in 2011. Here it is 2013 and with all those complications/issues I have put on 40 pounds which has been a struggle for me to loose. During the past couple years I have tried the HCG shots and the adipex pills to help control the hunger but Those only work for a little while or end up being to costly and I stop taking them. So I just got a fill a couple weeks ago and this is working pretty well so far. I can tell I am not as hungry as I was and seem to be eating less (getting fuller faster) and I have been exercising but I am not loosing weight and its getting frustrating. So I'm going to give it a couple more weeks and see if anything changes and go from there. So don't give up.....keep trying....and remember where you came from. Good Luck!
