I had my surgery 2/29/12 n lately I've been waking up with a dry mouth wtere my lips stick to my teeth. I sip all day but I don't get 64oz of Water I'm sure. And my stomach has been cramping so bad I can't stand up straight it hurts to much. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get 64oz of Water. I had a very hard night yesterday throwing up n couldn't sleep.I agree, I would call my surgeon's office and see what they have to say. I hope you feel better!

I started my 2 week pre op liquid diet yesterday. Does anyone know how many calories we are supposed to be getting a day? I have only managed to get 600 cal/ day. I am really tired, and to think I have 2 more weeks of liquids after the surgery?!

Hi! I start my liquid diet today! I am nervous, maybe anxious. My surgery date is 4/4. Does anyone have any suggestions to get thru the diet?
BTW, I am loving this board! Tons of info, thanks everyone!

Hi Diddle,
My kids are 7,5 and 18months. My husband is very supportive as well. He will have to take care of our 18 month old son, since I can't lift him for 1 month. I feel like I am finally doing something for me, and everyone else in my family will benefit too. I have had to convince my husband that the RNY is the right way to go, but he is onboard with the decision. And is super supportive, I know I couldn't do this without his support!

Thanks LosingIt. . . I have made my decision, I am going to do the RNY. I know I will have better Lifelong results with RNY. Fortunately, my insurance will pay for either procedure, but I feel like I will get better longterm results with RNY.

Good luck going back to work today. I would say try to take mini breaks throughout the day. Try to think positive, like how much less weight you are carrying around with you now! :-)

Thanks diddle 106. I have done a lot of research about RNY since my appointment. I think I am pretty settled on having RNY instead of sleeve. I wasn't so sure about RNY and the lifelong changes required. But, I am now ready to make those changes and be healthy! My kids need me to make those changes and I am ready and excited to begin my new life!

Hello! I am new to this board. I have a dilemma - I originally started this whole process of wls to do the sleeve. But . . . when I went in last week for my preop, my surgeon kinda suggested RNY, because I have significant GERD/reflux. I am a bit nervous as to what to do. He says he'll still do sleeve if that's what I want, but he will do RNY if I chose. I am 90 lbs overweight, that's what Dr says, he says I'll get better weightloss with RNY. But, I'm nervous about RNY. Any advice? I have to choose by MAR 16, my preop. my surgery is scheduled for MAR 28. HELP, :-)

Great to hear you are doing so well! I too am in San Antonio, I will be having my surgery at SAMMC (formerly BAMC) by Dr. Dickerson on March 28. I am excited and nervous at the same time!
-
SAMMC (at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio) has a Bariatric Department, quite a few surgeons. They will do the sleeve here, as well as gastric bypass and a few Lap bands. I am fortunate that my hubby is stationed here. The last I heard wwas that Tricare doesn' t cover the sleeve, but you can get it done at an MTF. Good luck!

I don't like that they reroute the intestine either.

Surgeon says I am 90 pounds from my ideal weight of 122, I am 5'4" weigh 211. I have never weighed 122!
-
He basically said that gastric bypass is the "gold standard" and that I will lose more weight with this surgery. But, I have to say that he didn't pressure me one way or another. He says he will do either surgery for me, which is cool, but scary at the same time. I am not sure if I am I am readynfor bypass. . .

So, my surgery is scheduled for March 28th. But, I am not sure if I am having the sleeve or gastric bypass now. I went in to my appointment all geared up for the sleeve, my surgeon said since I have significant GERD that the sleeve may make it worse. He said that he would still do the sleeve for me if that is what I choose, so I have to make my decision before March 16 - my pre- op appointment. Hmmmmm. . . what to do.
-
I hear you. . . I feel the same way, I have to do this for my kids! I have my pre-op appt tomorrow, hope to have my surgery soon, I am ready to get the worst part over with.

I have my pre-op on Friday. I too am very nervous, and excited at the same time. I am so ready, or am I?
