  1. Why are they so strict about smoking? I quit 2 weeks before my surgery. Just wondering why they want you to quit so far out?

I don't smoke, but I remember one of the requirements for my surgeon was no smoking for 6 months prior to surgery. I know it can give you ulcers after surgery, I guess they want to make sure you've kicked the habit for good.

  2. Hi Erin & Christine...My name is Tammy and l had my surgery on April 12' date=' so I'm around the same time as both of you. One more week of liquids...can't wait to move on to the next stage...growing really tired of broth, Protein shakes, Jello, etc. I need to chew..lol. good luck on your journeys![/quote']

Hi Tammy! We are about a week apart, had surgery April 4. Hang in there you will finally kinda get to eat something in a week! :-)

  3. Hi Erin' date=' my name is Christine. I had my surgery April 3rd. So we're about at the same place :). I'm getting bored with the purée phase but also sticking strictly to the diet. Mmmmm cottage cheese. :) I haven't had any issues with anything and hoping I never do. Just thought I'd chime in since we are at the same spot or close. Best wishes![/quote']

Hi Erin & Christine. I had surgery April 4, so I am right around the same place as well. I agree puree is getting boring, I have 1 more week of it. I am totally scared of dumping too, being very careful. I have been very lucky as well with no issues with food at all. Good luck!

  4. I am just beginning also i have been to all my apps now just waiting to talk to the Dr. What are you doing the sleeve or Gyastric? I can not decide and it is comming close. I like the idea of the sleeve but i like the GP how do you decide?

Sent from my iPod touch using RNYTalk

I originally set out to have the sleeve. When I had my first appointment with my surgeon, he said I might want to consider gastric bypass because I had severe acid reflux and sometimes the sleeve makes it worse. He also said the gastric bypass usually has better weightloss results, and they are more likely to be long term. So, thats why I chose the gastric bypass, among other things. But, there is a lot more research and longterm studies out for the gastric bypass than the sleeve, although many people seem to do just fine with the sleeve. Ultimately it comes down to you and your specific comorbidities as well. I don't know about the sleeve, but I know many who had diabetes gets better almost instantly with gastric bypass. So, do some research on both surgeries and discuss them with your surgeon. Hope this helps!

  5. Good morning all. Well I'm at the hospital waiting to have my surgery done. I'm not nervous yet. I guess it didn't hit me yet. Well keep me in your prayers. I will be in touch as soon as possible.

Prayers your way bernice! keep us posted when you feel up to it!

  6. I had the endoscopy this morning and they said I had some stricture. They said scar tissue had formed around the opening of my pouch restricting my food intake but allowing fluids to pass through. They said the opening was really small. I have to have the procedure done again next week but honestly this is the most comfortable I've felt since before surgery. I even at 3 bites of mashed potatoes without feeling sick or like something was caught in my throat

Glad to hear things went well and you are feeling better!

  7. Hello' date=' great progress, did u feel a lot of pain directly after the operation. My dr told me that it is very minimal but I am not so sure about it.[/quote']

To me it felt like I had done 1000 situps, My stomach was achy. I used the pain meds in the hospital and for the first few days at home. It really wasn't as bad as I feared it would be. Good luck with your surgery!
