I just moved to Manassas from Texas. I had my surgery in San Antonio last April. Do you know of any good support groups in the area? How are you doing since surgery?

I have started using soy milk in my Protein Shakes. I figure this way I am still getting my Protein and the soy benefits as well. :-)

Thats wonderful! I hope im as successful... I had surgery oct 3 and have not lost a single pound!Just be patient, you will lose the weight. You just had surgery and your body is still swollen and full of alot of Fluid and air. It really is amazing how quickly the weight comes off!

I have heard up to 18 months but not sure... everyone is different and it will certainly slow down once you get close to your goal weightThanks, Thats what I have heard also, 18 months. I'll ask my doctor at my follow up.

I am 6 months post op, I have lost 70 lbs thus far. My question is how long will the weight keep coming off? I know there is a point where the malabsorption isnt as effective. I only want to lose about 15 more pounds.

Thanks! I am down 60 lbs. I either walk 4-5 times a week or do the elliptical. I also do strength training 3-4 times a week.

I usually drink a Protein Shake first thing in the morning. It gives me 20+ grams of Protein and 8 or so ounces of liquids. Then I usually have a small snack around 10 a.m. Hope this helps!

Hi' date=' as some of you probably know I haven't had surgery yet. I'm not even scheduled yet.I'm wondering what has been the hardest for you to get used to. Is it drinking slowly, not drinking while eating, not liking food you used to love? Things like that. What have you had to really adjust in your life? Other than portion size, cause that's a given <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />[/quote']
For me it's not drinking while eating. But at first it was learning to drink slowly, taking sips.

Try taking Devrom, It's an internal deodorant. I bought some from Amazon.com. Hope this helps!

Unfortunately I had the same thing happen to me last night. I am 5 weeks post op. I was eating a chicken burger and took too big of bite. I felt awful for almost an hour until I could finally throw it all up. but boy did I feel better after! Like you said "lesson learned".

I am also concerned about Hair loss. I have already been losing hair due to my thyroid. I asked my surgeon about hair loss before my surgery and he told me it was normal to start losing hair about 3 mos post op. Unfortunately it can last until 9 mos post op. he did say start taking Biotin and selenium.

No I haven't taken measurements but I've had to buy a smaller bra and I'm wearing jeans now that I couldn't fit before and they're getting lose...I'm just so afraid of going thru all of this and then fail. Seriously afraid of failing:(...is that odd? Its almost as if this is my last chanceI am afraid of failing also! I lose weight, then to just put it + plus back on. I am thankful for losing the 28 lbs that I have, I don't want to sound greedy. Maybe I will start using the elliptical and see if that makes a difference. Good luck Panda!

I have and I am. I exercise daily. Getting my Protein in...although I did go one week when I lost nothing. Thanks for the input though
Hi Panda
Have you taken your measurements? I have stopped losing as quickly as I was, but I have lost inches. I walk 5 days a week and am starting to get frustrated that I haven't lost anymore weight. But I know I am just impatient! lol

I am 22 days post op and down 28 lbs (12 pre-op).

10 days after surgery and feeling great. The one issue I have is people telling me "why surgery you aren't that fat". What does one say to that??? Thank you??251 start
238 now
I can totally understand, I started at 215, now 3 weeks post op I am 187. Everyone has their own reasons for the surgery. None of my in-laws understood why I had surgery, they all said that I wasn't That big.

This is just a thought. I got released from the hospital yesterday and I was asking my surgeon about the medications I was taking. I asked him about the one for acid reflux and he said I probably wouldn't need it. He said in most cases after the survey the acid reflux goes away. So I decided I'm not going to take mine and see what happens. So far so good.
I had acid reflux and was on nexium prior to surgery, my surgeon said I probably won't have acid reflux anymore either. But he put me on Nexium powder for 1 month after surgery to protect my pouch. Good luck without the meds! Hopefully I can stop taking those meds too!

Hello I had my surgery on March 26 so far I lost 23 lbs but I have not lost anything since week 3. I am eating stage 3 diet and filling up fast eating mostly Protein and staying hydrated but getting discouraged at not losing more.I feel ya. I am 3 weeks post and have only lost 1 pound this week. I knew the weightloss would slow down down, but geez! I get my Protein in and my Water and I walk 1 to 1 1/2 miles 5 days a week. It's frustrating, but I am still working at it. :-)
