  1. Wow! You look amazing! esp that second picture with your baby - you both look so beautiful! Congrats on your weight loss! :)

Not sure if you'll like this comparison, but I have to say this: You remind me of my favorite actress (Indian) Jyothika. I just love her smile and yours is so pretty, it reminded me of her :) . Here are some of her pics:

  2. In my experience staying below 30 during the first 3 months had some great results. Then gradually increased it, but even now, I stay below 50 for a day. If I cross the carb count on a day, I make a concious effort to reduce the carbs the very next day. Good to shake things up a bit! :)

  3. Considering most of us retain some Water weight right after surgery (because of the IV), I think 8 lbs in 1 week post-op is awesome!

I had read about this (and the infamous '3rd week stall') here and in other forums, so I expected the first month's loss to be very less. So I made a concious effort to stay away from the scale till the first month mark.

  4. For the first time after surgery, I flew to my hometown last thursday (Jan 17). Not only did I not need an extension, I had quite a bit of cord to spare after securing the belt at my waist!!! I was beaming so wide, I'm sure the air hostess thought I was a bit crazy LOL!

I did! Goal accomplished! I flew last weekend and no extension. Another goal is to fit comfortably in an airplane seat. Is that really possible for anyone? Lol

I thought it was impossible - those things look too tiny to be comfortable for any one but a toddler!! But yup! Very much possible! Feels awesome! :)

  5. Upped my calories, decreased my calories, and finally learned to just sit back and let my metabolism do it's job. I had to learn patience. :)

Ms skinniness is right - I tried upping and decreasing calories in quick succession. But I had to be very patient whenever I was on a stall. Dont let it bother you. I know it is frustrating, but dont doubt yourself. You need 'you' to do this! :)

The only thing that seemed to work for me is this: I switch to full liquids diet on the weekends when I stall. And take less than 30g carbs a day. This seems to break my stall faster.

I hope this helps! All the best!

  6. Surgiversary! Yay!!

Yup I made it to my one year mark with some pretty remarkable (for me) results!

I started my pre-op diet by mid Dec 2011 and was sleeved on Jan 11, 2012. So Jan 11, 2013 marked my first surgiversary. I have lost a total of 120 lbs WOO HOO!!! (and those lbs are gonna stay away, if I have any say in that matter LOL!)

    Here are the details:

Starting weight Dec 2011 124 kgs or 272 lbs BMI = over 53.

Surgery weight Jan 11, 2012 119 kgs or 261 lbs

    Current weight Jan 12, 2012 69 kgs or 152 lbs BMI = 29.5!

When I started, my BMI was just over 53. Now my BMI is 29.7! I'm so happy that I'm 'technically' no longer 'obese' and that I'm only 'overweight'.

This last year had been so freakingly awesome! When I first started lurking in this forum before seriously considering surgery, I never really appreciated what the others meant when they said it is a rollercoaster ride. I fully appreciate it now; It is totally true! I've had some amazing SVs and NSVs, and I've had some pretty s#itty days fighting head-hunger, fatigue, and most of all, self doubts. But this forum and you wonderful friends have helped me stay on track. I come here whenever I need inspirationand motivation. You guys are the best!

And my surgeon! OMG! I seriously believe that God tailor made a surgeon for me! :) He is the best person who personifies the word 'tough love'. He is very encouraging, amazingly funny, but will say it as he sees it. I trust him with my life! He and his staff have my eternal gratitude!

I have not had the courage to post any of my pics on the board till today. But I made a promise to myself that I'll do it after my surgiversary. I admit that the pics on VST were a major factor when I decided to have the surgery and they gave me a great confidence boost whenever I felt down. So in my own small way I want to give hope to others here. My family, friends and colleagues say I look smaller - but I just dont see it. In my head, I still see the huge me. So I kinda rely on pics to see the journey I have been through. I'm nowhere near goal - I have 20+ lbs to lose, but now I'm confident in my new body, and dont feel embarassed to stand in front of a camera LOL.

  7. Wow! Amazing transformation! Its very evident that you have done a LOT of hardwork to reach where you are... Congrats on your success! :)

I was dreading that my weight loss would stop near the one year mark, but my surgeon told me I can still lose weight easily for 3 to 5 more months. I was hoping to, if not reach goal, atleast get close to goal by 18th month. Your post has given me great confidence! Losing 5+ lbs at around 18th month is AMAZING! Thank you very much for posting this! :)

  8. Hi all,

Few days back I had posted that my ticker doesnt show the BMI. I realized later that it was because of my height.

I'm exactly 5ft tall (153cm), so I entered my height as 5ft 0inches in the ticker setting. So the other day, I just tried changing it to 4ft 11inches, and the ticker showed my BMI correctly. I guess the ticker doesnt like a height with '0' inches :)

Just wanted to post this here so that the tech group would know of the defect..

    Thanks!

  9. My surgeon had me on pain-meds for first two days, so surgery pain was 0 for me. There was a mild soreness and a sort of *tingling* in my biggest incision - a bit unpleasant when you have nothing else to divert your mind with LOL! The worst for me was the gas pain that hit immly when they took me off pain meds on 2nd day. I had the WORST bout of shoulder/arm pain for almost 20 mins! But it passed quickly after that point I havent had any pain after that.

I thank God everyday for the overall painless and speedy recovery! :)
