  1. Ad my surgery on the 9th. The nurses said to work up to drinking 48-60oz of Water. That was a"goal". I start on full liquids tomorrow. As I eat what I am supposed to, I notice the foods my brother and his girlfriend eat. A banana looks good. Haven't had any smell issues or food aversions. Is this normal to see and still want other foods? My stomach is growling all the time and I'm not sure what that's about. I want to make sure that I'm not feeding a stomach that isn't hungry. How do you know what it feels like to be full. What does it feel like if you over eat?

  2. Hi all I was 133.00 kgs and now 113kgs I had my sleeve done on 6th March I feel ok now bit of cramping when I swallow but other than that ok. My surgeon put me on full fluids day 2 which shocked me as I was in so much pain I was to scared to swallow my Water let alone custard. Now I'm home and cooking for the kids I feel hungry dont think I acctually am I just get the craving to eat. Is that normal ? To feel hungry?

I had my surgey on the 9th and I feel the same way. I am still on Clear liquids and will start full liquids tomorrow. Still have the gas pockets rolling around and they mostly settle in my chest. Did you have that problem? If so, how long did they last.

  3. Okay...its 11:48 on the 9th and I'm doing great. Im typing using my cell phone so it'll probably be tomorrow when i am done. For someone who hasnt had so much as stitches or pregnancies, i must say that this surgery was not so bad.

The day didnt start off as planned. My mother-in-law had a stroke yesterday so i told my husband that he needed to go and stay with her. I cried most the day (behind closed doors) because i was so scared and i really wanted him to be with me.

I ended up coming to the conclusion that this was the way it was meant to be and went with my backup plan...my brother and his girlfriend.

Madigan Army Hospital at Fort Lewis Washington gave me the best experience for what was a very nerve racking experience. So far the entire staff who has worked with me have been so kind and caring. I give them an A+.

I guess my attempt to disguise my fears once i was wheeled into the surgery room didnt work. The angel of a surgical nurse very nonchalantly placed her hand in mine so i could hold her hand. With no words i could see in her eyes that she was going to take care of me.

Next i woke up in the recovery room. The worst of it was the pain in my chest. I was immediately given something for the pain. Next was the nausea. I was given a tube that was aroma therapeutic which after many deep breaths took that feeling away. Then my brother and his angel of a girlfriend were there cracking jokes and making me laugh. The pain that i was experiencing at this time was what others mentioned (like the day after doing 100 situps). The incision that was worse than that was on the left side where i think they removed the cut away stomach.

My advice here is to not try to be tough. Every chance you can, push the button for your pain meds. Thats what i did and there was not so much discomfort.

After reading so many threads from this web site, i knew how important it was to walk so i did. The nurse said that i was one of the first people she knew to walk so soon after surgery. Just to keep it in perspective, im 5'8" and started this process at 298 day of surgery 267. After a very short walk, back to bed it was and back came the nausea. The aroma therapy helped again.

I've walked 3 more times since then each time going a bit farther. My problem has been the shakes from not eating. I havent had anything to eat since noon on the 8th and nothing to drink since 10:00 pm on the 8th. Again thanks to VST i knew about how thirsty i would be after surgery so i tried to drink as much Water before my cutoff time.

Walking does help you feel better overall. Nausea a few more times (only after walking) but not so bad.

I found that when i was walking, i had some discomfort on my left side incisions when trying to take a deep breath. I solved that problem by stretching very slightly when in bed. Also anytime i had to make a big move, i put slight pressure on my left side incisions while doing so.

Again, so far...not so bad (and i started out scared to death). My next challenge is going to be tomorrow (EATING and DRINKING). Will keep you posted.

As for my mother-in-law... she was admitted and i made sure my husband stayed with her. My surgery was done 5 hours away from home and i am doing fine.

  4. I'm still figuring out this website so forgive me if I make mistakes. Sooooo' date=' how are you holding up?[/quote']

Hey kbs1010, how are you holding up. I'm in Bonney lake now. I had my pre-op today. Surgery on Friday. I've been getting a lot of support from people out on this board. I'm gonna try to disconnect tonight until after my surgery. Will post again after. Just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  5. I will be honest with my experience. I am 1 year 2 days post op. I have lost 69lbs' date=' use to be 237lbs now at 168lbs. My self esteem is terrible! worse than before. I know I lost weight, but I don't see it. I still see the girl who was a 2X and not the girl who is now a 12-13. I don't feel thinner. I do feel lighter but I still see myself as a very big girl.

don't get why I feel this way... I feel very disappointed, I see so many girls/ladies who have had the surgery and they look so beautiful, but I don't see me like them. sighh[/quote']

I've been reading through this thread and had to stop at your reply. I'm sad that you've worked this hard and went through a serious surgery and can't see your beauty. First of all, beauty is always within. You have been successful with your weight loss. Your weight has to do with your health...not your beauty. I'm sure that you have much beauty within you. Please take time for yourself and maybe see a therapist for help. You deserve it and you are beautiful.

  6. Katyb, it sounds that you are military. I know the Air Force has a family support office at all bases with all sorts of resources to help family members out. Not sure what branch of service you are in but maybe they have something similar to help you out. Also, whether you are enlisted or officer, there are also spouses groups that might be able to help. I know it wont give you the independence you want but it's better to play it safe and don't risk potentially damaging your new stomach. Good luck...I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

  7. Thanks folks. Just had my preop tests, blood draw, chest X-ray, meeting with anesthesiologist. I'm going in waves. One minute I'm fine next I'm up in the air. Whew! I'm so glad to have all of you to help me through. By the way....told the anestesiologist that I was anxious. He said to let them know the day of the surgery and they would give me something for that. I asked if they could giv emu husband some too. Lol. He's more worried than I am poor guy.

  8. No preop diet. I have been maintaining 1200 - 1500 calories. Am going to start liquid diet today. Woke up this morning having doubts but im not backing out. Just feeling stressed trying to keep my husband and brother from worrying. Im driving 5 hours across the state today to get to fort lewis where im having the surgery. I'll check back in with you all tonight.

  9. Hey there' date=' =) First of all, once you have your sleeve and begin to eat solids like eggs and toast, you probably won't be able to fit in a whole egg and peice of toast in one sitting at first. More like a half egg and couple bites of toast or just one whole egg by itself at the most. If you eat it too quickly,it may make you sick,or just make you feel uncomfortable for awhile. I am 6 weeks out and am still working on slowing down with my eating, but I will get there soon enough. Things I find that help me try to slow down are taking a bite and then walking away for 5 minutes. Come back and do the same thing. Or if you are sitting and resting and don't want to walk away, make sure you put your spoon/fork down after each and every bite. I was such a Water guzzler b4 my sleeve! I could seriously drink like a whole bottle at once lol. I though it was gonna be a big problem after surgery but it isn't. I find that if I sip constantly (except when eating) I am confortable.I haven't had the urge to guzzle at all. You won't automatically wanna guzzle after surgery bc it will constantly be on your mind that your stomach is wayyy smaller now. Good luck, you'll do great![/quote']

Thank you. Your unfo has been helpful. I'm so excited. 5 more days til my surgery.

  10. I'm getting sleeved in less than 48 hours! OMG!! I'm being sleeved by Dr. Lahmann of BMI Surgery out of Joliet IL on Monday' date=' March 5th at 10:40am![/quote']

It was meant to be. Where are you having your surgery? I actually live in Spokane. In order for my insurance to cover the sleeve, I have to have my surgery ar a military hospital. I'm still so excited to have someone so close.

  14. I haven't had my surgery yet but my fast eating has been a concern. I was told to get a timer to help me but it has seemed impossible to eat an egg and 1 piece of toast in more than 10 minutes or so. I'm also a Water guzzeller. How does it effect those of you who have had surgery?

  15. So I am having my surgery on March 15th with Dr. Kelly in Tijuana' date=' MX. I would love to make friends with some fellow March 2012 sleevers to share the journey....[/quote']

Hi kbs1010. My surgery is march 9th. Next Friday. I too am looking for a friend to share with. Please let me know how you are feeling about all this. My surgery is at fort Lewis madigan Army Hopital in Washington state. They have tons of experience with this surgery so I pray I don't end up with complications. Never had surgerys or baby's so I don't know what to equate tis to. Good luck and if you like, I'll keep you posted.
