Really? No Underwires Right After Surgery?

My highest incision is 1.5 inches below where my underwire sits, BUT I was more comfy in a sports bra the first few days because my entire abdomen was swollen and tender. Mine might have been a bit more so because I had hernia repair at the same time. Plus, I'm one who has to hook my bras in front and then rotate them around, and that would definitely have bothered my incision! Anyway, I was back in underwires at one week. No issues now.

    Hiatal Hernia Question.

I had a small one repaired during my VSG surgery. My surgeon said that he wasn't going to go to all the trouble of making a new stomach just to have it slip up through the hernia afterwards! I've had absolutely no post-surgical issues with it. I haven't been burping, but haven't really needed to.

    Stomach Cramps! Help!

Before I was diagnosed with lactose intolerance (this was 20+ years ago), I remember getting horrible cramps after eating dairy, which was then followed by gas and diarrhea. It was awful. Corn and cucumbers cause the same reaction. I hope you get the answer at the ER, but I highly recommend looking and your food intake to discover the triggers. Sent from my iPad using VST

    Itching All Over

Are you drinking a lot of Protein shakes or drinks? I've learned that whey protein breaks me out in itchy hives. I've also broken out in little bumps around my incisions, I must be reacting to the steri-strips. Just take a look around, you may have built up a reaction to something. Sent from my iPad using VST

    Soooo Scared

At 39 I weighed 270 and was also in "good" health. In the 2.5 years since then, with only an additional 4 lbs gained, I developed high blood pressure, GERD, out of control periods, joint pain, hypothyroid, severe Vitamin D deficiency, extreme sweating, and an aggravation of an old back injury that has left me with a possibly permanent limp. My PCP of ten years practically danced a jig when I told her I was considering VSG. If I were you I would find a new doctor. Sent from my iPad using VST
  10. I was sleeved along with hiatal hernia repair on 4/9 and so far my recovery has been great for the most part. Very little pain, I haven't taken any pain meds since the day I got home from the hospital. My abdomen was very puffy and swollen for several days, I'm sure from pumped in gas and fluids. I joked that after surgery, my belly is now bigger than ever, wth? The puffiness seemed to subside quite a bit yesterday. I still have an occasional shooting pain in my left shoulder, especially when I hiccup or burp, I'm sure that's gas. An abdominal muscle than seems to run under the largest Incision is still very sore, especially when coughing or sneezing. Chewbacca my growling tummy loves to talk when I feed it. Post op diet is two weeks of full liquids then transitions to mushies for two weeks. I'm able to get 64 oz of liquid down easily, but yesterday was the first day I met Protein goals. Not sure how often I'll be able to do that on liquids, as I had to use Gatorade Recover drinks to get there and whey Proteins break me out in weird bumps and hives. Sure enough, I woke up to several welts on my face this morning. Going to visit Sam's Club today to see if I have any luck finding good soy protein supplements. Even our GNC didn't carry soy in stock, gotta love the South. Been averaging 300-500 calories a day until yesterday when I bumped it to almost 800. Stepped on the scale this morning and I'm down . . . wait for it . . . 3 pounds since surgery. I'm not going to say "only" 3 lbs because I know it's still net in my favor, but SERIOUSLY?!?! Yes I have metabolism issues, yes I'm hypothyroid, but dang. I did lose 20 lbs in the five weeks before surgery. I think I'll have to really try to bump up my calories somehow to try to get close to 800-1000, my body must be in starvation calorie hoarding mode. My fat loves me very very very much! On the plus side, I tried on some shirts last night that I haven't been able to wear in a couple of years, and they fit, yay! So, I need some ideas, friends. One week to go on full liquids, and I need ideas on bumping up protein and calories while avoiding dairy/whey. Any suggestions? Isopure and protein shots are whey based, so that is out. Any input would be welcome! Sent from my iPad using VST

One Week Out Update And Questions

Muscle Milk Light is made with milk Proteins and is not dairy free. I just double checked the ingredients online. Thanks for your input, though. I really don't give a flip about calorie counting other than I'm not losing weight right now because my body is in starvation mode, and I think I need to bump my calorie levels to see if it helps. Appreciate everyone's tips! Sent from my iPad using VST

One Week Out Update And Questions

I usually order online but my bad reaction to the whey protein left me scrambling. Unjury is whey, like Isopure. Just trying to think of some short term solutions to get me through the week until I can start mushies. If I order online it'll be a week between get the package anyway. I did find a small jar of unflavored soy protein, but it clumps in just about everything, and stays as sediment on the bottom of drinks.

Ummmm, I can't remember offhand and I'm on the iPad app that doesn't allow for full editing. I got my tracker from Myfitnesspal and copied the code into my profile. Do a search of the forum, I think that's how I found the instructions. Sent from my iPad using VST

Going so well that I'm almost afraid I'm going to jinx myself! Definitely sore, but very little actual pain. Incisions are healing very well. I've had no trouble getting enough liquids in, although I'm nowhere near Protein goals. Living on thinned creamed Soups, Protein shakes, Jello with added Protein powder, thinned Greek yogurt, and Crystal Light. Tummy talks like Chewbacca, lol. I get 2-3ozs of liquid down at a time. The most difficult thing for me is getting in and out of the car. The swelling and puffiness from surgery is staring to dissipate finally. @Dina, let me know as your surgery date gets closer. PM me if you need any help, advice etc. Sent from my iPad using VST

    Water Bottle

Check out the Blender Bottle. I picked up two from Sprawl Mart. Flip top, opening is perfect for sipping, and it has a nifty little removable metal blender ball. Great for when it takes hours to sip 20 oz of Protein drink and stuff settles to the bottom. Sent from my iPad using VST

    Becareful!

Oh boy do I feel ya on this! I have had to not tell some family members and friends because it would get back to my mother, and if she finds out I had surgery she will drive me bananas. Because I'm the eldest and we look alike, she's always treated me more like a younger sister that she's extremely jealous of. The only time she doesn't pick on me are when I'm as heavy as she is. It will be bad enough when she sees me lose weight, but if she discovers I had a procedure for it, I can't imagine the venom that will spew forth. Shoot, just getting my hair cut short prompted barbs like " well, you're just going to get fat and look like a triangle." My dad is undegoing cancer tx at the moment and I cannot have her stressing him out or cutting me out of the picture when he needs his family. Sent from my iPad using VST

    Strawberry Mousse-Ish Is Yummy!

Personally I love it, but there are some who can't stand it. If you like thicker, more custard-like textures then you'll probably like it too. Try a small container of Fage or Chobani to see what you think. Sent from my iPad using VST
