Those Of Us Who Are Brave Enough To Share Weve Failed
dhales replied to soulsong's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I really don't think there are any magic fixes/procedures...and why some are successful with any particular procedure while others are not is beyond my knowledge. But perhaps with more people coming out and sharing it will help us understand why it isn't working for some and working for others. Is it physical, psychological or luck? ...or maybe a combination of all three. I can't do anything about the luck....but I am trying to combat obesity both physically with the band and psychologically with counseling and hope that through both angles I can combat it. I have heard of people gaining back weight with the other weight loss surgeries as well and in fact using the band ontop of a Gastric Bypass...etc. Good luck and I hope you are able to find more answers here. I will be following along so that maybe advice from this posting can help me in my journey. -

Help. Rash After Band
dhales replied to Luv2sing920@aol.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a weird rash in various spots on my tummy, then under my chest. I asked my doc about it...and he said Yeast infection. They give you a huge amount of antibiotic via IV when you go in for surgery. That plus your immune system is traumatized can make you suseptible to a skin yeast infection. He gave me a pill and it went away in a week. -
Thanks guys....I will just power on...if anything I have the support in here

I don't really have periods anymore...I have an implanon. But it was pretty low...that's why I thought it kind of weird and it was directly after the fill. Better now...I got it about 4:00pm and its 6:21pm here now.

I thought the same. He didn't say anything about my weight loss. I honestly just walked in...sat on the table...he stuck the shot thing in my port. I sat up and stood in front of the Xray and swallowed barium...then I was done. he told me to drink Water before I left and gave me a sheet of paper telling me what to look for to determine if I need another fill. Then I was done and the next lady was called in. I did weigh with the nurse before I went back...but it just seemed kind of strange. Seems like everyone else has a little more hands-on and opportunity to ask questions. BTW - he put 2CC's extra in. So I think I have 4.6 altogether. On the bottom of the sheet he gave me it did say that partnership with your doc is important. I called on my way home...thinking maybe I should have stopped by the desk before I left to make an appointment and that's when the lady told me that i only need to come back in if I need a fill or have issues. But not for maintenance... Not the end of the world...but just wondered what everyone else's experience was like.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back the following Monday. I started to feel "normal" on that Saturday. I would opt for 4 days. You also may feel weak from the limited calories you are able to consume.

I would think it would be a major contradiction.... The band prevents hunger....pot makes you hungry. Just sayin...lol

Hcg Diet For Any Bandsters?
dhales replied to DBgotbanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did before the band. I used the drops and lost about 1 pound a day. The diet was very restrictive at 500 calories a day. I lost about 40 pounds but once I was able to eat regular food...I gained it back and then some. i have a friend at work that did the HCG shots at a doctor's office...she lost about 12 pounds and then gave up... I tried to do it without the drops and had the same results...but always gained my weight back. That's why I needed a diet that i just couldn't quit (e.g. the Lapband). I liken the HCG drops to Dumbo with the white feather. He thought he could fly only with the feather...but realized the feather had nothing to do with it...but it is psychological...anyhow that's how I felt about it. Just my opinion. -
I use the chocolate powder. I buy it from Wal-Mart. I like it because I can have it for Breakfast and get more than half of my Protein in a day. It is 50 grams of protein a day if you use two scoops...it has 3 net carbs per serving...which multiply by 2 for two scoops. It is also 140 calories per scoop. I find that it fills me up until lunchtime. I make it with Water and add ice for a shake like texture. Though it is much easier to mix if you mix the mix with water then add the ice and blend. Good Luck to ya!

I had it for 5 years and then had it replaced. My periods at first went away...which I loved. But then they would be a little weird (long, short and sometimes 2x month). My gyn said that it can be unpredictable sometimes on how you will react to it. Sometimes you respond well and then you body changes. They say you can't feel it during intercourse....but I could always feel it. Maybe TMI but it was a really strange feeling when it was hit. I never had any issues the first round...but the second....I started to have really bad infections...one after the other. I decided to have it removed and put in the Implanon that lasts 3 years...but takes away your period too. I've had it for 2 years so far...not any issues yet. Good Luck...

What Size Portions Were You Eating Between Surgery And Your First Fill?
dhales replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me not to exceed 1/4 cup (2oz) at one sitting for the first month after the band. He reasoned that although the pouch he created can hold 1/2 cup (4 oz) that while I am healing to fill the pouch could tear the sutures that he put in place on the fold that went over the band to hold it in place. I always see people eating more than that. I have stuck to the 2 0z...but check with your doctor as my doctor may have been trying to scare me straight. I am self pay and I can't afford a revision. Either way more than a cup a time seems excessing for your little baby pouch...be careful. I always hate that our docs give us so much conflicting info. -
Today is exactly one month post-op....I had my surgery on April 3rd and my weight was 195. I weighed in today (175) and have lost exactly 20 pounds! I have lost 2 inches in my chest (not exactly happy about that). Lost 2 inches from my waist, 2 inches from my hips, 2 inches from my arms and 1 inches from my thighs!!! All together I have lost 9 inches in a month. Just thought I would share!!! So exciting.

I was nervous too....it was painless. I was out and awake before i knew it.
