hi there Melanie.. good on you. im glad that you dont have to go through all the pre op stuff. living that way away it sure does make it more convenient for you. Did he have a good feel around your liver?? just wondering about this one. i go for my visit with dr on wednesday. i live about 1 1/2 hours away from the city as well, so im rather hoping that my dr. has the same protocol as yours does. it makes things so much easier if he does. We dont like driving our highway much. its not a good road. BEst of luck for your surgery. keep us informed. i will know on wednesday and let everyone know the update.

hi there.... ive just turned 65... im hoping to find out on wednesday when i can have the surgery done myself. If i left this later than this year im doubting very much whether the dr would do me. just a thought. does anyone know of people in their later sixties who have had this done?

i sincerely pray that we will be.. i too have a love affair with food thats proving to be deadly for me as well... From what i can see we need to have a complete cleanout of emotional baggage as well as change of diet. I dont know which is the hardest at this point. lol. just thinking about it all, these are the thoughts that run through my head. This forum has given me lots to think about.

and i agree with this comment. Even friends can react strangely . i have a younger friend than myself. i mentioned to her two years ago about trying for lap band surgery and she got quite offended. all because she was obese and wasnt having the surgery. i dont think she was prepared to take on board everything that this surgery entails, but she was still offended at me. My weight is nowhere near as bad as hers but my arthritis is chronic ... so people can be non supportive, even if they are close to you.

thanks for this Carlene... i agree with you all the way. I dont want to be ''blinded'' by the science of it all, but i need to find out what works for me. REading posts like yours helps my will power to remain high as well. this is a great forum.

I May Be Allergic To The Band...
judych replied to Amanda61082's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this is a real problem. im so sorry that you are going through all this, after all your hopes and aspirations for a successful surgery. Im wondering about the other surgery... stapling. at least there isnt the danger there of this sort of thing happening. i did read though that getting enough nutrition can be an issue though. does anyone know about this at all?/ i think i will ask the dr about it. i do hope that the prednisone helps you and that you are over it soon. Let us know. -
im glad its over for you.

that was an incredible feat, losing that much. i have never been able to lose more than a couple of stone (about 30 lbs ) at the most. then it all came back on. Ive read south beach diet and its very good.. i did try it but didnt last for long. however the whole family have embraced the general guidelines for eating from it which is great. no white bread, no sugar, etc etc. so far so good. Atkins is harder for me as well... ive been there with that one. i think Atkins has made my metabolic rate so slow that its going to be an issue for me later on when im trying to lose. WE just dont know, do we?? when we are young and try things out, we dont know what we are doing to our bodies long term, half the time. im thinking its just as well i only have about 80 - 90 lbs to lose. Anymore than that and i would be completely overwhelmed i think. im sure that the band will do for you exactly what you need it to. Like me, you need a constant reminder in your body to keep you on your toes.

i bet you are glad its all over now... i hope that you are able to cope with the amount of fluids that they want you to drink. it sounds like its quite difficult in the early stages. thinking of you this morning our time.
