hi everyone. i agree about husbands needing to be more educated on the lap band but what can one do?/ at least my hubbie went into the dr with me for first consult, so he did get to learn some things. but, im hearing now that i should have been more careful about my diet before all this happened... well,, dahhh... i hope my husband can understand more as i go into surgery what its really all about now. he is on about me getting outside and sun baking... rofl... get this ?? im going on 66 and he is 73 ?? and he wants me not only to be trim again, but young and tanned as well?? he is a stupid man sometimes. even if this was said in jest, i dont take it lightly. he has no idea how im feeling right now about the whole episode. to be so frivolous about it right now is being insensitive. Im not sure at this point how well i would cope if he came out with more nonsense after surgery. as i type this im aware that i dont have much of a sense of humour right now. i think thats understandable. i just wish he were more sensitive about it as well.

also.... ive bought some Musashi SIM high protein formula. i mix this with cold water and put in blender. im assuming that this is o.k. for the first week?? its not clear like the chicken broth ive made up but its not thick either. ive not opened it up and tried it yet. perhaps id better try it. what do you think about this product?/ or do i need to buy something more watery for the first week?

im being banded on thursday this coming week. im in the process of making chicken stock. ive got chicken thigh meat, onion, french onion soup and a little pepper.. not much of that. what else can i put in for a little more flavour?? its o.k. but its very watery. i think i need some more flavour in it. has anyone here made up their own clear liquids for the first post op stage?/

i asked my dr about whether he used the gas and he said no.. so that was interesting. there is so much variety between different specialists here, its amazing. you wouldnt think that there would be

it must have been rather difficult to sit there through all that negative. They are wrong putting the band down like that. i asked my specialist about the gastric sleeve and he explained to me that the mortality rates with the surgery are way higher, that things can go wrong with the sleeve and if it does then it cant be reversed. at least with the band drs can remove it if they really have to. i know that the incidence of gastric reflux is greater with gastric sleeve, especially after a couple of years. and, whats more, what happens if the sleeve itself is stretched over time?? nothing that can be done with that either. also, its a relatively new surgical procedure and the long term results arent known. So, just adding up here the few things ive mentioned, i think that we are all doing the best thing. my dr wouldnt do the sleeve. i know there are some places where you can have the sleeve done, but my opinion is that you would need to be extremely obese before its justified. it is a risky procedure.

it would be good if you find the recipe and post it.. thanks.

In The Am 1 Year Bandanniversary!
judych replied to kelli01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks so much for posting. i reckon everyone here is hanging on every word, as you are now so far out from your banding. You mention about emotional baggage?? boy... ive just realized how much i have it, how much i was eating to cover up heaps of issues that are going to have to be dealt with...and, whats worse, hating myself more and more as i kept doing it. Hating others because they didnt have the weight issues and the joint issues that im ''stuck with''.... so much going on with me. I think the utter dislike i had for a friend of mine when she waltzed in my door, beautiful frock on and carrying a handbag on her arm was a wake up call. I never would have thought that i could feel like that. So, that was a wakeup call. That got me thinking about how much bad food habits had interfered with my perceptions of myself and it was interfering with my friendships as well. So destructive. (not to mention the havoc with my health ) REading you post is just so encouraging. Im going to be banded on the 22nd of March. im 65, which isnt young for stepping out into this adventure, and i have to admit that im scared. im scared that maybe ive left my run too late?/ that perhaps the band wont be of much benefit to me?? im scared that a whole lifetime of eating whether good or bad has to be completely turned inside out now. until now i never realized just what a biggie food was in my life. . Being on this forum has really shown me the bigger picture of life after banding. Without this forum i would be foundering, im sure. no matter how many questions i would have for my drs and staff, there is nothing like reading about others who are sharing their lives with us all. Im better prepared now that i ever thought i would be when i started out on this journey. And, i want my self respect and a healthy self love back. i want to be able to look in the mirror and like what i see. i want to be self assured when my trim, beautiful friends come around in their best gear. i was hating what i was well on the way to becoming thats for sure. i want to be healthy again. Thanks so much for your openness here with your post... it was positive and very encouraging. I got a lot from it. -
Anti-Inflammatory Question!
judych replied to Cynesra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
just some thoughts of mine on arthritic joints and lap band. for a while now, when i knew i was going to have the band surgery, i determined that my diet was going to change to the point where my body is far more alkaline. i have bad arthritis in nearly every joint and i know my body is acidic. Due to bad diet. So, ive bought barley green, which is very much like spirrulina... and has heaps of vitamins and minerals etc. years ago i was on this powder and it made a tremendous difference to how i felt.I dont even remember now why i didnt continue to take it. probably because discipline hasnt been one of my strong points up until this point in time. Now i have my back against the wall, its different. i have other ideas about my diet as well... but i need to get banded and back on my feet first. So, im hoping now that changing my diet by making my boy more alkaline will work for me. Just some thoughts here on it. -

one more thing i bought today shopping in preparation for it all... some Panadol Rapid Soluble. Does anyone know of this meds?/ Im in Australia and havent seen a lot to choose from with liquid pain killers.. especially ones without aspirin and no anti inflammatories. -
hi everyone. Well, after my steak dinner last night i was very uncomfortable in bed.. thought for a time i would have to get up and force vomiting.. i didnt thank goodness. ... so that was a bummer. i took forever to eat my steak but it didnt go down well.. it was beautiful meat. makes me wonder how big my hernia is right now. Anyway, i saw my anaesthesiast today. we discussed at great length about vomiting. its a real problem with me. so, we got that sorted . i was only in the city for that, we left straight afterwoods. then i shopped coming home for high protein meals.. got two containers. i got some baby food, some diet jello, greek yoghurt, beef stock etc etc. im going to make up some chicken stock and some lamb stock over the weekend and freeze.Im also going to freeze some ice blocks with diabetic lemon juice. One thing. the lady who served me when buying the protein drinks said to put the water in the freezer for about 20 minutes before mixing with the protein powder ... put all in the blender. she said it makes all the difference. i dont know why, but thought it was worth mentioning. I have bloods taken on monday morning so we are travelling once again for that. where i live there are none of those facilites. i will do some more shopping on that day. tuesday morning i have a phone interview with the clinic pre admission... and thursday i have the op. this coming week is going to go really fast im thinking. i had lunch at McDonalds today. i always get a chicken wrap.(about once a month) i was thinking that it would be the last time ... dont know where we will eat from now on but some things have to change. Hubbie is just starting to realize how big this thing is. Congratulations to all those who have just been banded, and to those of you who are being done in a couple of hours.. all the best to you. cheers from Australia.
-
...and all the best to you as well.. what time are you being operated on?? im in australia and its 5.45pm in the afternoon on friday. im not being banded until next thursday.

Anti-Inflammatory Question!
judych replied to Cynesra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there are some really good rubs out now. not sure that aspirin rubs are a good idea though as they penetrate the skin and go to the lining of the stomach.. ive used some really good ones. also you can buy really good knee supports that you wear. i have two artificial knees, and arthritis in my feet and hands as well. im going to be up against it as well. i dont take meds for it though. -

judych replied to kychick1294's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i did read somewhere that some people have tighter bands in the mornings and it loosens up as the day goes on... so would you need to adjust your eating as the day goes on? -
