    Personal Issue... My Rant

Don't let the 7 year old win! I know he's only 7 but explain to him what family means. Then explain again, and again. That you help each other out, pick up the slack when needed. Regardless of your surgery, he should be picking up his own toys anyway. I would of made him. Also, is it possible that he picked up that attitude from something grandma said? Sorry you're having such a bad time.

Anyone? Am I The Only One In April?

Chunkygirl- I had a bad two days after surgery too. I felt completely human in about 5 days. Today is day 9 and I don't remember having any shoulder pain for the past two days. Still a tad sore if I do too much though. Hang in there!
  3. I'm only one week post band, so I'm probably not qualified to answer. So far I don't really feel like eating. I'm measuring everything I eat. Right now I need to. I don't plan on measuring everything forever. I'm just so close to my pre band self I'm learning new habits. Some foods sound good, the same foods still smell good. I was craving chili so I made a pot. I was only able to eat 1/4 cup before I was done. Not too shabby. I've lost 25 lbs in three weeks. So it's working for me.

Post Op Gas Pain. Day 3

Heating pad and rolling my shoulder works.

    Emotional Eating

Now would be the perfect time to pick up sewing, or get into sewing again as it may be. It kept me out of the kitchen all day Pretty- I don't know where you live, but if you have a dedicated seeing machine store they will usually offer free classes with purchase. Or Jo-Ann's or Hobby Lobby have classes I think too.

    Got My Surgery Date!

You guys are champs for cooking for your family. In the past three weeks I've maybe cooked five times. I flat out told my husband I couldn't do it a d bought husband friendly meals to make. For the mist part I even left the room. I'd workout while they ate. It worked out nicely.

    Trouble With Clearance

While I think of course you should be honest with your therapist, but you should be more honest with yourself. I did a two week pre op liquid diet and it sucked. Big time. It did get easier but seeing and smelling foods was always difficult. I had to take my breaks somewhere else. Did I think this meant I wasn't ready for surgery? Heck no. I was just testing my willpower, and living through it. Pre op IS hard, especially since it's only liquids and you do not have the benefit of the band to help. It's the hardest LAST diet you will ever do. Hang in there. you don't have to have everything figured out before sugary and have dealt with all of your demons. Geeze that would take years for me! Just be in a place where you are ready to change and ready to deal with them, and ready to get a new relationship with food. Good luck!

Hope everything goes well for all of you and keep us posted!

    Post-Op Banders

7 days post op today for me! Yay! I've lost 25 lbs (including pre op) and I am happy. Of course I was hoping for a tiny bit more, but I'm not complaining. When is the last time I lost 25 lbs in three weeks? Never. I finally feel completely normal. Still too chicken to sleep on my stomach, but I can sleep on my left side. I have on and off shoulder pain but I just ignore it. My incisions are itchy and the glue is falling off. It takes everything I have not to pick at it. I'm supposed to start mushies today.... But I'm afraid. I don't want to gain ANY weight. What if I do? I'm not really hungry so I'm thinking of mostly sticking to fluids. Anyone else terrified?

    Emotional Eating

Yesterday I had one of those days. I ended up baking Chiabata bread, which smelled divine. Why did I do this to myself? I know I can't eat it. Still. I missed cooking and baking. It still felt good to do something I loved. I promptly gave away the loaves after watching my husband and children devour half of a loaf. So I realized baking bread was probably not the wisest way to help me out. I hiked myself over to my craft room and shut out the bread smell. I decided to sew. It's one of my hobbies and makes me feel better. I'm just going to have to turn to swing or crocheting, or whatever to replace eating. There was a study published recently that said even ten minutes of walking can release endorphins to help your mood. I think I'll hop on the elliptical if the weather is crappy. It should help.

    Milestones

Great job! You are in ONEderland! I have a long way to go to join you, but I'll get there. A loss is a loss, no matter how small. It all adds up. Keep up the good work! I think since you don't have as much to lose as others (like myself) your rate of loss will be slower. I'll take a slow loss over none anyday. Good for you!

    Probably Tmi

I have no idea about the rash other than to suggest that maybe it's the glue or iodine on your skin that you are reacting to. Benadryl cream or hydrocortisone? I had a "rash" which was more like a red itchy spot on my right middle abdomen and put hydrocortisone on it and I was fine. As to #2.... MOM can take hours to work. As long as you are not uncomfortable AND you are passing gas then everything should be working. It is different for everyone. It also depends on if you are still on pain meds or not. Here's my TMI. I used to go everyday and now it's every 3-4. My calories are really low and I know I'm not taking in as much fluids as I should. Plus it's all fluids. Hope this helped somewhat. Oh, I'm 7 days post op today.

    April Bandsters!

Idaho- I'm thinking of you and hoping all goes well. I know from personal experience how a "death scare" changes someone. Keep your chin up and hug your babies close.

Anyone? Am I The Only One In April?

I loathe cottage cheese. The texture is disgusting. I start mushies on Thursday and I have these foods in mind as long as I make them REALLY tender I can eat them. Pasta (not Al dente) Baked Beans Potato salad (love this with a little baked beans on top) Pot roast in the crock pot all day meat loaf? I'm thinking if it's moist enough I can mash it oatmeal Homemade tamales (can't wait to do this, that way I cut out most of the fat and I'm adding unflavored Protein to the masa) I've calced it out to about 110 calories per tamale and I think about 8gm of protein at least. I'll let you know how they turn out next week. I'm not hungry, but can you tell I miss cooking?
  16. RunnyF- I'm so sorry you had such a horrible time. I'm glad you are feeling better though. I hope you survive today.

    Banded 4/5/2012, New Here!

I was also banded on the 5th! I'm in So Cal though. The first couple of days were horrible, but now not so much. The shoulder pain is bothersome but I made a heating pad to fit perfectly around my neck and shoulder. It's been wonderful. Today I finally got dressed, took two walks and went on two car outings. Yesterday I didn't rake shy pain meds but after my adventures today I took a half dose. Hope your recovery continues to go well!
  19. It all depends on how you react. No matter what I think going back the next day is too soon. Why risk it?
  20. Hormonal birth control increases your risk of blood clots and isn't well absorbed after surgery.

    Introductions? Yes Please

Welcome Everyone! Happy Easter and Passover too!
  22. I was banded on the same day and you are taking in way more fluids than I. Keep up the good work. Today I had four ounces of Optifast, 1/4 cup tomato soup, 1/4 cup protein jello, and some water. I'm just trying to stay hydrated and get a little protein in me.
  23. Lol. I'll spill the jelly beans. Day one was horrible. My nurse took out my IV fast even though I told her I always get sick from anesthesia. I could barely keep fluids down. Dry heaving HURT, they couldn't give me anything for pain or nausea, almost kept me because I wasn't peeing. She threatened to put my IV back in I looked at her dead on and said "DO IT". She wasn't expecting that. I was finally released in pain. My pharmacy took an extra long time filling my script. It was a bad day. Day #2 was a little better. Still bad. Day #3 brought less pain but finally the dreaded shoulder gas pain. This is getting more manageable I just can't wait for my body to feel "normal". I did so well with my C-section and natural labor I thought I would do ok. I feel like such a wimp.
  24. I hear you on the Easter candy. Although so close post op I don't feel like eating anything at the moment. I wanted to make sure I wasn't tempted just in case I was feeling great after surgery (wishful thinking). So instead of buying ANY candy for my family their Easter baskets are filled with a bathingsuit, towel, and new pool toys. Stuff I would have bought anyway, but Easter gives me a new excuse, AND NO CANDY.
  25. It's finally here. I wish I could say I'm excited, but I'm scared to death. On my way to surgery. I'll keep you posted.
