Got home last night. Surgery was a breeze. Recovery has its ups and downs. The first night I was in so much pain but they couldn’t give me strong pain meds because I didn’t tolerate them well. Next day I was up walking but still tight and sore. And of course I started the period from hell.
I have the worst pain from hiccups. After surgery I hiccup constantly. I only have four incisions the biggest one being in my belly button.

Sounds like me. I haven't had hiccups, but had some strong pains like I wanted to burp but couldn't like it was stuck. I have 4 incisions and a drain port. I got home on Thursday, surgery was Tuesday....no pain meds since I got home although I could have. Just didn't want the Constipation I've read about so much. Thank goodness I'm passed periods!! That had to be awful.

I told my struggles about him eating near me to people I know in real life and they said since I was the one deciding to get a sleeve done, then I must be considerate of my boyfriend and let him eat what he want where he want. That I must learn to have self control because it's like a diet... (to which I will say it's complete BS liquid diet isn't like ANY diet I did.). But since it was an opinion from someone I respect I let my boyfriend do what he want and eat whatever. I am having less struggles by the days probably because I know it is soon happening ....

It's normally only the week-end anyways as we have different working hours. I know it is like tempting the head hunger but I will count any victories that I can have.

The good news is you both have different work schedules. If he respects you, he will respect what you want to do in your life. What happens if your schedules change? You need to think about that. Think about the weekends and how to handle that. Every time your resist temptation, give yourself a pat on the back. That helps me. I have a hubby that is extremely overweight. I told him it is up to him what he wants to do. If he chooses not to lose, that's his choice. I'm reaching my goals.

    Hi!

i am new to this group. I am hoping for my sleeve revision this December. I had the Lapband emergency removed in August and keep gaining :(. Metabolism shot! I haven’t eaten any Pasta bread eating the same just more., not much.. less exercising because I am recovering and depressed from having it removed . My BMI lower than start so it’s been a struggle to get this done.. I have the other conditions to support the need in my opinion.. just waiting on insurance. Any low BMI ers 30 ?

Anyone out there to give me insight on your experience and if this is a good decision for a revision. Since it’s permanent unlike the Lapband. Any input on your stories or advice on insurance .. lapband revision to sleeve.. success rate?? Etc

Thsnk you.. I don’t want to go backwards ., didn’t want my Lapband Out was doing great keeping weight at a good place .

i can get this done next week if I want to go it ., hopefully insurance 🙏🏻

Had lapband 6 yrs ago, then it slipped in October 2016 and was removed in January 2017. I gained a lot of weight back. The surgery to remove it was tough on me, scar tissue removed and two ulcer sores repaired. Just had the Sleeve this week Dec 5th. I lost 26 lbs before surgery. You will do good. Going through Lap band will help you know what to expect. This is a more traumatic due to cutting off the stomach but the sipping and post-op it will be like riding a bike! Keep me posted

Thanks! It's at 10:30, I have to be there by 8:30 though. I'm the second one of the day. It's my first surgery so I'm kind of nervous but definitely more excited than anything! What about you?

Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app

You got this, before you know it you would only be sore and walking around! The swelling will come down and you will be slimmer!

Hi - what a great idea for a thread MSG - thanks for starting this! :) I need buddies!

I see a few that share my date of 12/7. I have no pre-op diet but just have to do light meals tomorrow which I'm going to just do shakes..and then not eat or drink after midnight..arrive at 9:30 for 11:30 surgery.

the two others I work with who have been sleeved took three to four weeks off...but I am hoping to just take just over a week and then work from home for the next few weeks...we're down some people with the holidays and I can do most of my job from home anyway as I work one day a week at home regularly.

Good luck to everyone - I'm nervous and excited but more excited. :)

Hope you are doing well. Let us know

    Hi everyone

I’m scheduled for December 12, was supposed to start my liquids diet yesterday but starting today:unsure: it’ll basically be Protein Shakes, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. I don’t like broth or Soups for that matter so it’ll be a struggle having no hot/warm food for a while

starting to feel more nervous than before but I’m ready for this! I go in today for my last pre-op blood work and EKG.

I’m going to be off work for 23 days but i work a 7 days on/7days off schedule so I’m really just taking 9 days off

    wishing y’all the best

Nervous is normal, I think we've all had it. I had lap band 6 years ago, had it out but was still nervous the week before surgery. You will be happy you did this!

My surgeon is giving me a month off so from 12/5 to 1/8 but I’m only taking two weeks my job is under staffed right now so i told them I’ll come back early on light duty

How are you doing Ruby? I had surgery on Dec 5th too. I got home on Thursday, doing better today except for the chills and sweats I've had. NP said it was due to the trauma of the surgery and is normal.

    Hi everyone out there...sleeve buddies...

I am here trying to get some last minute info that I may have missed. Tomorrow I start clear diet and the Clearfast my

Dr. recommended for a quicker recovery. In going in on the 5th at 7:30! After 6 months of running around meeting

insurance requirements, finally it's really time. Yes, excited and also afraid of the unknown; I always say we don't know

what we don't know. I am putting myself in Gods & Dr. hands. and I will be alright.

Wishing you all success and a healthy future!

Every doctor has their own protocol for pre-surgery. My surgery is the 5th - tomorrow. I had my own anxiety a few days ago but I know God has this. I think we wonder if we will ever get there cause it's been such a long journey for most of us like a rollcoaster trying to lose weight. I'm so read to get off all these meds and go for a hike and maybe even go camping again!!
Go join the Buddies Group for December under buddies and mentors. I think there's about 8 of us in there and we can all support each other. The ONE main thing that I never got with lap band surgery, I'm determined to be successful.

Me too! Dec 8th can't get here soon enough!! Where are you having yours done?

Over in Buddies/Mentors I started a group called Buddies Group for 12/4 to 12/15 sleevers so we can all be there for each other!

My surgery is this time TOMORROW!!! I'm so inspired by so many and looking forward to a healthy better life.

Hi All I am having surgery Dec7. I would love to connect with a buddy during this whole process! Looking forward to chatting soon

Hi ~ Welcome to the group. My Countdown for surgery on Tuesday at 8:30am!! I don't know about you but I've been so busy trying to get everything done for Christmas and some things in order. Tomorrow is my last "day" and so much to do.

Over the last week since my pre-op I've been a little anxious but now really excited! I had a lap band and now getting the sleeve. I have done the whole program with lap band and it's the same for sleeve. Let me know if you know to know anything. More than happen to help.

Hi! Looking for a sleeve buddy... my surgery date is 12/4. I'm 34 and 325 and 5'7. Looking for someone with similar stats and goals. My surgeon predicts my goal weight to be 180 🤗. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of friends or family that understand what I'm going through and it's been tough so far... feeling alone. But I'm a super positive person that's looking to make the best life change ever. If you feel the same, let's be buddies 💕

I've had the same experience when I had the lap band 6 years ago and then now with the sleeve. We can all pitch in together to be buddies if that works for you? I'm 61 and right now I'm at 265 and goal weight is 140. Feeling alone with no support is a trigger for failure. We cannot accept failure and must stick to this life change for success in our lives and health. Your future is waiting for you!! Don't think me being 61 that I'm too old, people think I'm around 40-45 and I'm mommy to my grandkids. I just hope I can keep that look when I lose weight!

I'm having mine on Tuesday, Dec 5th too. I'm on my 2 week liquid diet now and it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. Started it last Tuesday, Nov 21st. Already lost some weight, feeling really good about it. You just hang in there, you will do great...:)

That's awesome!! I will follow you if that's ok. I've been trying to get on a liquid diet lately. Last week before Thanksgiving was great but the holiday messed me up. My doctor didn't require it, only a two day liquid diet before surgery. But I know the more I can do it before surgery the better for the liver to not be as swollen. I'm so ready for this!

  14. My husband was on state disability almost two years ago. It was bad. All the doctors said he needed to lose 150-200 lbs and wanted him to have surgery. He didn't want that because he thought he could do it on his own. I think he just didn't want it. Then I talked him into it but since he was on State medi-cal, they make people go through a ton of hoops. He say a "diet doctor" who only gave him Phentermine for 3 months and then recommended surgery. Since there's only a few doctors doing this surgery, the wait time for an appointment was 6 more months. By that time he was long off disability and then got a job. He's not working now, again but looks like he will start sometime soon and the company has health benefits. So I'm hoping he will go for it. He's committing to me he will do the diet with me but I just can't believe it. I think he will sneak and cheat. I know that sounds bad but after 20 years of marriage, he has never done a diet on his own, but only with me. If I fall off the wagon, he doesn't pick me up, he falls with me and there it is.

  15. I'm looking for a mentor. My surgery is next Tuesday, Dec 5th. Had Lapband 6 years ago, lost 50 lbs. Stalled and never got out of it. I slowly started gaining the weight back. Doctor NEVER gave me a fill in the band. I was very frustrated. Started back with a different doctor 18 months ago, he filled it too much and after 6 months the band slipped and I had a blockage. I had loss 40 lbs last year but when I had severe pain and in January had to get the lapband removed, my recovery was horrible - 3 months and I don't think I've ever got my strength completely back. Went back to my old doctor for the Sleeve on July 29th to start the process. Original surgery date was Nov 7th but had to cancel due to events I was heading up. I'm doing this for ME. Last time I did it for "all of the above" and my husband told me he would be a support. I told him then, if he can't support me, tell me now. He did, but he's so overweight with no will power and just cannot stick to any diet plan. I felt so alone with no support. So I'm going into this knowing he won't be my support, although I'm getting that message from him now I know I cannot rely on it. So that's why I need a mentor. I got severe plantar fasicitus and couldn't walk without pain and couldn't do anything at the health club. Still not 100% well plus I had a serious back injury with a broken back 9 years ago. Going off Celebrex and Ibuprofen before surgery in Nov. was very painful and now I off of it again. I have felt like an very old woman lately. Getting on a pre-op diet has been difficult with my husband. I do well for a few days and then not. He is always forgetting about my diet. UGH!

So if anyone is having surgery or had surgery, I'm open to anything. Jenn, you are similar to me and although I won't compare, I sure hope I can have the success you have. I'd love to lose 90 lbs in 6 months! I know I cannot do it without exercising. I'll have to start slow with my back and feet and build up.

Thanks so much and for reading!!

    Mary

  16. Next Tuesday, Dec 5th is my surgery date. I've not done very good on pre-op diet. I'm on a liquid diet starting tomorrow. I had an original surgery date of Nov. 7th. My hubby is not on board with me and he's severely overweight. I have to do this myself but I would love to see him do the diet as he has lots of health problems. Would appreciate a buddy to support each other cause I cannot count on him. Had lap band 6 years ago and it was great but I had a tough time after a year. Since then, I'm taking so much RX meds now. Diabetes, high blood pressure and a cpap machine. Never had any of that just 2 years ago.

Anyone else on here having surgery next week?

  17. Originally scheduled for Nov 7th, I had to cancel due to a car show event we put on and it was rained out and rescheduled for Nov 11th. My doctor had no other openings until Dec 5th. Then I got a call on Monday, they had a cancellation and opening for surgery on Nov 20th....yes Monday before Thanksgiving. I said no, I want to spend time with my granddaughters that week.
I'm very happy with my date and it gives me more time to prepare with the liquid diet and I haven't exercised much due to plantar fasciitis so that gives me more time.

I’m doing a revision/conversation from band to sleeve on the 10th.
I’m starting to get anxious thinking of anesthesia and pain and worst to me is having to stay overnight.
    Anyone else feeling nervous???

Don't worry, think about your new life, new health! I had my band out in January and I wanted a revision but that wasn't going to happen. The pain will last only a short time compared to how much more you will love your new life. You got this!! You made it through the band and this will be so much better. Hang in there and ever time you get nervous, give yourself a big pat on the back for making this decision.

  19. I was all set for Tuesday, Nov 7th surgery but our charity car show is rained out for today (Nov 4) and the rain date is Nov 11th. Never been rained out before and I can't let my husband do it alone. Plus this is going to be a huge car show.

I had hoped to call last Monday and get switched with another patient who would love to do it a week earlier and I'd trade dates. Well, the dr's nurse who set the surgery dates is out on vacation all week. Plus those for surgery on Nov 13 or 14 didn't have their pre-op appt because she was gone. I'm bummed.

I'm really excited for surgery. Had lap band, not too successful, no fills, frustrated, then went to another doctor who did too much fills. It cause a lot of pain eating. This I had a blockage that caused to slipped in October 2016. Had pain ever since. Had an endoscopy in January that showed the lap band slipped and had to be removed. Not a good post-op. Had a lot of scar tissue, two sores, lots of healing needed. I was nauseated 24/7 for 6 weeks, took 3 months to recover. Started on my journey for gastric sleeve after fighting to get referred back to Dr. Ali. Got it and saw him July 28th. Knew everything to get done so I fast tracked.

    I'm soooo ready for this!!!
