  1. Hey CHECK IT OUT Stef, I didn't know you had diabetes. Not that it's a good thing. I'm hoping my A1C is in normal range without the metformin I haven't been taking. Thanks for letting me know how the Byetta has worked for you. My doc suggested it for control of the blood sugar AND said it would help with the weight loss. I know my whole battle is the insulin resistance thing. THANK YOU!! I am starting to think there may be hope for me. I don't want to be one of those people who say the band doesn't work, but when my doc asked me if I was glad I got the band, I paused......I didn't know what to say. I told her the jury was still out. I want to be excited about this and be successful, and if I wanted to starve myself I wouldn't have gotten the band. I'm as filled as far as I want to be right now.....things like this flu have gotten me too tight to eat Protein and solids (haven't tried salad yet Suzz) so I don't think I want any more.

Suzz, I'm sorry you're plateaued too. Are you still wearing your Body Bugg? I stopped wearing mine at Christmas and wish I hadn't. My counting went all to heck. I need to get back to trying for those 3000 points in walking.

  2. I'm baaack...from vacation on the coast and back among the living (almost) after coming down with the flu that immediately went to pneumonia. Doc gave me and bunch of stuff to take and today is the first day I've started to get bored hanging out in the bed. My silly little band is playing tricks on me today by not letting me eat. At least I can get pills down.

On vacation I learned I could eat little, not enjoy more than about 3 bites of nice seafood dinners (protein first, then veggies, then carbs) and walk my butt off on the beach and *still not lose! When mentioning my plateau to my doc she wants to test my thyroid again. It was low last time on January 06. She was also talking about a new med for diabetes called Byetta.

I'm glad everyone is doing well!! It's pretty quiet though.

  3. At the point I can eat bread and rice, I think I am due for a fill. That time has come in the last week or two. At 7.4 cc in a 10 cc band, I am nervously apprehensive of being overfilled and having my third overfill. I hear talk of being "full" on two or three bites, and think that 1/4-1/2 cup per meal (protein-veg-carb) would be perfect. After eight months of my Quest, I am starting to question if this will ever be possible for me. After seven fills, you would think I would have achieved restriction.

Looking back on my fill/weight records, I have been at this weight since September. I toyed with restriction, lost the battle and had two unfills, and it took me three months to recover some semblance of band control. Yes, the discipline is on me, and I'm not working out......but am I going to be spinning my wheels 'til my one-year anniversary in June and be right in the same place?

You'd think with head *and* physical hunger for the past three weeks, the scales would have budged some.......WTH?

  4. Stef, I think you are right...my bike is still pretty good. The tires are pretty shot, for sure the back one because it's original and we couldn't get it to hold air. The brakes I had redone. I got a Bell gel seat, so I'll try that out...wish I had read this before I went shopping today. lol We have one bike shop in our one-horse town, but I'll take it in there to get the tires looked at and maybe it will need a tune up. I'm wondering if they'll recommend different tires since I plan to ride it mostly on flat roads and "nice" hills!

How do you know how far you are going? I got a little wireless odometer.

I'm worried about wearing my sweat pants, yoga styled things that have floppy legs. No way I could wear shorts now though. Hmmmmm....?

Are you religious about wearing a helmet?

What's a good first goal for distance? I'll probably poop out in about 2 miles!

  5. Bcrazy, I have lost quite a bit of hair. Hubby had to unplug the drain in the bath last weekend! It was all my hair! I do think it's hard to get adequate nutrition with the band because it is hard to get enough of the good foods in, especially Protein. I lost more hair in the beginning when my weight was going down fast. I think it's tapered off, but I'm on good Vitamins now....even my leg cramps have disappeared.

  6. Stef, I have a question for you...our resident cycling guru. My bike is 25 years old, and I'm sure technology has changed in that time. It's a mountain bike, a Nishiki Colorado and I'm sure it was good for it's era. What's out there now in a reasonable price range for someone like me....wide cargo and all? Do you have any recommendations for starting out? Thanks!!

  7. Us Washington folks had sunshine today!! I spent most of the day upstairs going through drawers and files, and had my bedroom window open. It was wonderful!! Probably won't last though.

Restriction is good, eating is much less, but nothing is showing on the scales and I'm super bummed out. I've gotta get my butt moving!

  8. Suzz, I get so sad when I hear you can't eat salad. That is the weirdest phenomenon! Salad actually helps me get stuff down, like Protein or solid foods. It adds some slipperiness. You can eat bread and that's the stuff that balls up and acts like a cork in me.....protein too, so if I combine with some salad it breaks it up. Sorry dear!

Your guy sounds very intuitive....me thinks he might be responding to your most intimate thoughts of him.....I am almost happy for you!! You must not know how beautiful you are becoming...but it sounds like *someone is noticing!! :glare: You should tell him!!

  9. Thanks guys, you're all really great. It's very comforting to log in here and know that no matter what I'm going through, band issues or otherwise, you're here. Thank you!!

The tightening in my band seems to be letting up enough to let liquids pass comfortably. I ate about 2 bites of chili yesterday and was uncomfortable for about an hour. For dinner, I had Later I had about 1/2 cup thin Soup which squeaked and I couldn't finish. About 2 hours later, I had a berry smoothie at costco and was surprised it went down fairly easily. Before bed, I had a glass of milk and a Vitamin (horse pill) and called it a night. This morning I had my Protein Shake and coffee and no problems. I'm dying for a salad, so I may attempt that for lunch.< /p>

  10. Squeeeeaaakkkkkk!! Getting a little concerned here. Yesterday was a toughie (making grandpa's arrangements and viewing) and I didn't eat much but Protein Shake for b-fast and a bite of Protein Bar for lunch. I was hungry from about 2:00 on, but had that stuff to do. We went to dinner and I had about 2 potstickers and one bite of chicken and I was done. That would be great but dummy (me) tried the dry fried green Beans too and was pbing slime x 3. For the rest of the night I was stuck. I sipped some Water and it squeaked. I am having coffee this morning. I think it could be stress, and today will probably not be much better (taking kids for viewing). Should I just do liquids for a few days? I do not not not want to have to go for an unfill.

  11. It's like everyone who thinks that lap band is overkill "solution" to obesity. They don't get that it's a TOOL in weight loss approach, not the cure-all answer. It's about education, and putting it out there. I give kudos to her for that. People will come around I think and pretty soon too.

  12. Beckie, what do you call a tiny fill? I had .2 Saturday and so far so good. When I got overfilled it was .6. I asked my arnp to show my the syringe and I asked her if that little made a difference. She said some tweaks are as little as .05. One half of a 10th of a cc. Wow.

Good luck getting the sweet spot too!

  13. Thank you big baby.

Shoot is right Stef, I did the same thing, and I had just ordered two of the caramel ones off another site, so now I'll have 4. It says Peanut Butter is out of stock, but I filled in the box with "2" and it just went through. Maybe we will get the peanut butter ones. Wishful thinking. The good thing is my daughter uses them when she's doing sports, and I have hubby turned onto them too, so I will probably end up having to hide them.

  14. Wish me luck....I got a .2 fill yesterday. Just a tweak. I'm still afraid of getting too tight. I could eat bread, sandwiches, pizza, eggs, rice...basically there was nothing I couldn't eat. I have gained back almost 15 pounds. Tight in the morning, loosey-goosey the rest of the day, frustrating enough to make me eat out of control, so I really needed a fill.

My grandfather passed away on Friday. He was doing fine on Wednesday and I took him to the doctor to fill out some papers (health care directives) and he talked about hanging on until he had his will done, and we patted him and told him he wasn't going anywhere, and the doctor said the same thing. Well, he knew something that none of us did...a premonition I suppose. I will miss him desperately.

When I got my fill yesterday, I looked EVERYWHERE for the Supreme bars. We surely don't have them in the area I live in...it's too remote. The only place that had them in the city (7-11 did not) was a sports place, and they only had TWO!!!!!!!!! I will definitely order them on the web. Thanks Stef.

Gosh Stef, you better be more careful. Do you own a gun?

    Take care everyone!

  15. Suzz, I'd recommend you take stuff that you can munch on that's not going to make a huge difference in your daily intake. Nuts, apple slices, a nice large spinach salad, etc. Also, sip some crystal lite throughout the night, and AVOID the lounge!!! You can do it! You're worth it!
