By no means is my post a complaint, I LOVE my band and it is obviously working. I am just a bit puzzled. I am almost 7 weeks post op and went in for my first fill last Thursday. I found out my band was empty and because of my weight loss I only got 0.5 cc this first fill. I have lost 27 lbs and only 5 of those 27 lbs were before surgery. Most everyone I see on here has at least 2 cc's or more. I have yet to come across someone with as little as I have in my band. My Dr. did say that I had above average weight loss for my first month. Is there anyone else here that has a similar story or that can shed some light for me. I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever be able to have very much in my band. How can that be possible?? I do track everything I eat and eat an average of 900 calories a day which my Dr. said I'm right on track. I had my upper GI and she said everything looked perfect. I'm beginning to wonder if it's just my "diet" and nothing to do with my band?! Not really sure how I feel about that. I have lost successfully in the past on "diets" but always gained it back plus some. I guess I will know if my band works if I don't gain back weight. My whole purpose for this surgery was to end my yo yo dieting!!

Thank you all!!

Banded August 15th and just had my first fill last Thursday. Ever since my fill I have what I can best describe as like a tightness in my chest and like a bit of a lump in my throat. It's not painful, it's just a feeling I have not felt. Almost like a shortness of breath in a way. I'm drinking and eating just fine so I don't think I'm too tight. Anyone else ever experience something like this???

You should be able to get more than liquid down. I will call and ask your Dr. Conratulations on your weight loss!!
OMGosh, LOL! I meant "you should call and ask your Dr." LOL!!!

I just had my first fill today. I had some broth after that and now feel completely nauseated. Not like I'm going to throw up but enough that I am going home to lay down.

I had 4 pieces of general tau chicken last night.... first fried food I have had in 21 months! I am guessing it was 2 oz of meat but then Breading is what kills ya. But Not a darn thing wrong with it except I too feel guilty... But I am 9 lbs from goal and it's not like I ate the entire quart... Thats the beauty of the band... Even if you fall of the wagon it will not let you drown as long as you are paying attention to it,
And what I learned from this journey is that today I am eating normally and there will be no reprecussions. It's the day after day of eating poorly that catches up to you.
I love what you have said here!! I ate Taco Time today. The most I have eaten at one time since being banded. I am feeling so guilty and 7 hours later with nothing else to eat because I still feel stuffed. It's the most I have been able to eat at one time, now of course I'm having thoughts of "I hope I didn't ruin anything." I was banded August 15th and have lost 24lbs which everyone says is great. In the past when I would lose weight I would get to a certain point and just pig out again and the cycle would start again. I was always such a volume eater that it's been one of my bigest challanges since being banded. At least I am recognizing this though and tomorrow is a new day. I did track my bad day today on Myfitnesspal so I stayed accountable for my poor choice. Thank you for reminding me today that I am still human and I'm not alone!!

Hey Rox,
I haven't lost any weight in three days -- banded 8/27. I think (gulp!) I've been eating too few calories -- sometimes not able to eat over 700 or 800 a day. Really trying to make myself eat LOTS of Protein now (protein first!) and try to get up to 1100. I also have NOT been exercising. But I agree with LiveStrong -- the journey doesn't really begin until we get that first fill -- our bodies are still healing! The weight loss we've gotten in the last few weeks is just an appetizer (to use a bad comparison LOL), the meal hasn't even started yet!

I sure hope so! I am continuing to keep the faith and will not give up!!!

So I decided to scale my walking down a bit and see if that makes a difference. I use to be a runner. In 2010 I ran 3 half marathons and eventually gave it all up because I never saw a budge on the scale and became so frustrated with all my hard work. Sounds crazy, I know! Maybe I am just one of those that's body holds on for dear life to weight if it burns more calories than it gets a day. I don't know. I sure wish I had the answers!

@Roxygirl: I've only been banded for a short time (8/31), but I have. a lapband friend (at goal) who told me not to expect weight loss during your body's healing phase, which you are actually still in. She said the weight loss journey seems to begin after your first fill. Try and be more patient with yourself. Continue everything you're doing (I read your blog tonight and you're doing awesome) and I'm told our weight loss WILL happen! Best wishes!!
Thank you!! I am trying to have more patience. That's something I've never really been good at unfortunately

So I definitely don't want to sound un appreciative or come across as an unrealistic person but is anyone else from our August group feeling a little down with weight loss/food now that the "dust has settled"?? Banded August 15th and the scale was moving down everyday until a little over a week ago and then came to a halt. I have been walking 2 to 3 miles daily and although my appetite is more than it was right after surgery I'm still not eating more than 1100 calories a day. I'm also trying real hard to wrap my head around not being so caught up with food. I was always such a volume eater that this is a bit more challenging than I thought. Or should I say, I thought I was more prepared than I actually am. I have purchased several books but I like coming here for the added support. Please tell me I'm not alone!!!!

What a great blog! Thanks for sharing and thanks for the food ideas. I don't get what the magic pop not bread things are, but am going to look them up and see if they are available in my area.
eta: Ok, they look really good. But, do they give you that 'full of air' feeling rice cakes do? I can't eat rice cakes because of that...they almost make me nauseous.
Thank you!! I never ate rice cakes but I will say they are air like but filling if that makes sence. They are really light and crisp and make me feel like I'm eating chips! I'm hooked!!

I discovered a new food today that I just have to share!! I also listed some of my current favorites! Just click on my blog below and it is the lastest entry

I'm so thankful for your post and all the responses. I was on vacation the last 5 days and wasn't always a good girl with my food choices. I know what I need to do and tomorrow is a new day. I just needed to see I am not alone. It was a huge family vacation and my family are huge eaters. At times it was super easy but there were those times it was super hard. I'm just glad we all don't live together!!! Thanks again for your post and all the wonderful responses!!

Today is day 4 post op, feeling substantially better, not so gassy, just a sore back from sleeping on my danged wedge pillow, and my abs are still tender. I'm finding that I want real foods now, though I'm having problems with taking all of my liquids in - I'm amazed at how full I actually have been feeling. It's good, but my head hunger is trying to force it's way in... argh!
Good luck to all of you with surgeries coming up in the next week - and to those of you who are newly banded - congrats
I also made a Facebook page for my wls journey if any body is interested, as well as my youtube channel that I've had going for awhile. May provide some laughs (though it still hurts to laugh at this point, lol)
Woops, I should have said I have not made my surgery public on my FB page. Maybe I will make another FB page like you did! Good idea!!

I love tattoos. I have certain areas I won't tattoo
Congratulations and good for you!!! It's so nice to reward with something other than food isn't it?! I am also going to do another tattoo, I just have not decided on my goal for that. 60lbs sounds like a great mark! I think that's what I will make it!! Do you know what you are going to have done yet?

Hello all you August Banders. I just wanted to give a quick update to my status. I am right at 9 days post op and I feel great. My incisions are healing nicely and my port side has no pain. I am still struggeling with gas and bloating by the end of everyday. I have started to take the Gas-X in the morning prior to leaving for work. I have already lost roughly 11 - 13 lbs. My scale isn't very accurate. My post op appt is on Monday so I will give you the true numbers when I have them. My appetite has been almost non exsistant. I am getting in 2 shakes and a bottle of Water a day.
The first few days after the procedure were typical. There was pain in my abdominal area as well as in my chest. I had a hiatal hernia repaired with my lap band. The additional surgery caused me to have a deep pain in my chest. This all subsided within the first 3 days.
I had my procedure on 8/15 and I was at work 5 days later. The first day back at work was uncomfortable sitting up in an office chair for 8 hrs, but I managed. Today is then end of my 1st week back to work. I feel great. I did have some stomach pains last night. I think it was still gas. I got up and walked around and I (please pardon me.. started to pass gas) and then I felt better.
Good luck to everyone who is about to go in and everyone who has already gone it. This month marks the start of alot of journeys for all of us.
We have the same band day and I feel great too! Everyday get's better and better so hang in there everyone!! Plus, it's fun watching that scale drop

I highly recommend the Magic Bullet blender and Unjury Protein products!! My top 2 picks for the week! The Magic Bullet is $49.99 and for those of you that live around a Bed Bath & Beyond, you can use your 20% off coupon. They have made my post op liquid diet way easier! I can't wait to try the Magic Bullet for the mushy stage and beyond!

I everyone, I am 4 days post op and have had hiccups a few times, anyone else experience this? Maybe I am drinking too fast?
Yes and yes
It's what some call a soft signal to be careful with whatever you are eating or drinking!!
Puzzled!

Thank you all!! Mis73, I found a forum under "fills" that said exactly what you did! Thank you! I love having this site for questions, answers and support. I have learned so much from being a part of it all
