As my surgery date grows closer (2 days) and I will be on a liquid diet tomorrow, I can't help but feel a little overwhelmed about feeding my family over the next 6 weeks since I will be so restricted. I am a stay at home Mom so meals are usually prepared by me. My family is so supportive and will fend for themselves but it's just an obligation I feel to do for them. It's not like I think I will "slip" but out of sight out of mind. Anyone else out there struggle mentally with that and if so how did you compromise to get use to life with the band and family meal planning?? It seems a little silly to me but it's what's going through my mind tonight among so many other things pre surgery.....

Making Dinner For The Family After Being Banded

Thank you all for your replies! My Hubby and I talked tonight and he said he would take care of the food and just to worry about myself. It's crazy how something so minor can effect your thoughts pre surgery. I'm sure there will be many more post surgery but I'm up for the challenge!! -
It truly really depends on your insurance. My insurance wouldn't even consider it without a BMI of 40 or over or BMI 35-40 with a severe co morbidity. I also had to provide them with a 2 year weight history as well as a 6 month weight management program along with all the tests and other visits. I am finally getting banded Wednesday after 9 long months of trying to get qualified. If you click on my link my story is the only blog I have done so far. I wanted this so bad I was willing to do whatever it took and just never gave up on it. Good luck to you and please keep us posted!!!

Trying Not To Get My Hopes Up Re: Insurance

My insurance required 2 years of weight history and diet attempts and then the 6 month requirement was through my bariatric DR and a nutritionist. Can you call your insurance and ask or do you have a member handbook to refer to?? -
Well I have finally calmed down from finding out I was approved. That was surely the longest 7 days of my life. I felt like a little kid again waiting for Christmas! So as I sit here tonight I'm feeling pretty good and have just been going through all the forums for insight on how my life is going to change. I am super happy but also trying to stay realistic in my own personal journey and knowing the weight is not just going to fall off overnight. Darn!! HaHa! I ordered 2 books today from Amazon and am excited for those to come. I am planning on going out and purchasing the Magic Bullet unless someone can suggest a better food processor?! I just like the "convenience look" of it but I've heard some say it leaks. I plan on starting my own personal blog page to have for day 1 banded and beyond. For me, I think it's important to referee back to where I was when I feel like I'm having a bad day. Exactly 1 year ago I was 60lbs lighter than I am now due to HCG shots and although it was a quick fix I wish I would have journaled how good I felt. Of course I gained it all back and then some. Ahhhhhh, the things we do for vanity. I am looking forward to finally embarking on a journey that will stay with me for a lifetime! Life is good!

Trying Not To Get My Hopes Up Re: Insurance
Roxygirl replied to tlm1120's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well I first started out last December 2011 and then found out in February of this year that my insurance required a 6 month weight management. My last day for that was August 1st and my paper work was submitted to insurance on Friday, August 3rd and I found out Friday. So 7 days of complete misery waiting to be approved. Do you have any co morbidities?? I have 2 and a mils 3rd so I think that helped. -

I forgot to tell you. I actually wore ankle weights in the begining to get me over that 40 BMI hump. Insurance requirements can be a challenge. Keep us posted!! -
