Mom Of A 22 Year Old

Hi Lyn - I'm not 20 something, but I would have to agree with Bedhead (love the name) on this one. This needs to be something she wants to do. I am the father of 3 boys and I too want what's best for them so I understand your concern for your daughter. When she sees the success you have had and how much joy it can bring, not to mention how healthy you are becoming, she'll probably come around. Hang in there and keep loving!

    Post Op Dr Visits

I was wondering if when you go into your Dr's office for post op visits, do they ever take your blood to test you for vitamin or other deficiencies?
  4. Yep...I am almost 3 weeks post op and I still have some pain in my hand where they had the IV, but it's not bad. I couldn't wear my watch for a few days. Make sure you are getting your protein and water in so your body and veins can heal.

    I'm Confused

Did you happen to have a hiatal hernia repaired as well? I did, and when I took even the smallest sips I felt discomfort in my chest. It goes away after a couple of days so nothing really to be too worried about. If it stays with you for a while, you might check with your Dr. Congrats on your surgery!

    Omg

Congrats to all of you! Very exciting!!!
  7. Mine wasn't necessarily pain, as it was just a little uncomfortable. This occurred for a couple of days for me. Initially I thought that's just the way it going to be for me from now on but it got easier until there was no issues at all. It will pass, but if not you will want to let your Dr know. Congrats on your surgery!

    A Hiatal Hernia

I didn't know I had one until I had my first pre-op appointment with my Dr. They fixed it when I had my surgery and it was no big deal. Congrats on your decision! One of the best I have ever made.
  9. So sorry to hear about all of the issues you have had. Praying for you.

    Post Op Dr Visits

Thanks all! I will check with my Dr when I go back to see him in a couple of weeks. I would like to have my labs done and to me it seems crucial to know things are going internally.
  11. Just checking in on you to see how you are doing? Praying for you.
  12. momofthree - Thanks for the message! You will do great! Lean on Him and your family, as well as the others in this group and stay positive. I was a little nervous too but came though just fine. Stay in touch and let us know how it goes! gmanbat - Good to hear you are doing well. What a great thing to go through with your wife by your side doing the same thing. What an encouragement to each other! Congrats!!
  13. Hi everyone! My name is Vance. I have really enjoyed looking around in this forum. What a great place of encouragement and comradery and I hope I can add as I go through my journey. I was very athletic growing up and even played semi-pro baseball. About 20 years ago I started my first sit down desk job, and there began my upsizing. I gained several pounds every year until it reached a point this past summer (2011) where I ballooned up to 330 lbs. With three wonderful children and a beautiful wife, I decided it was time to do something about it before something worse happens. I decided to meet with Dr. David Kim, weight loss surgeon in Dallas, TX. After a great meeting, I decided I wanted to go for it. The sleeve was going to be my surgery and after my insurance approving it, I started my liquid diet. I lost 34.5 lbs in just a few weeks and weighed in at 295.5 on my surgery date, 12/31/2011. Surgery was good with not any difficulty. Today is day 8 and I just moved to Phase 2 of my liquid diet. It's going pretty good. Getting in my Protein and Water and currently down to 281.5 (down 48.5 lbs pre-op / 14 lbs post-op.) I'm a little head hungry, especially when I see pizza or fast food commercials, but I just sip on my water and I am okay. Anyways, I just wanted to say hi to everyone. When I registered for this site, it suggested I post my story, so there it was. I hope to be an encouragement to others as I have already been encouraged by you all so far. Thanks! Vance

    Itchy, Itchy, Itchy

My whole stomach is itchy and developing a rash, not just around the incisions. Not sure what it is. I guess I will have to check with my Dr. I am 3 weeks out and I am wondering if it my vitamins or my Prilosec. Hmmm....

    I Am Sleeved!

Congrats Paola! Welcome to the family!
  17. Yeah, I have read about the dreaded 3rd week stall. Mine happened in week two. I didn't lose 1 lb and I was drinking all my water and getting all of my protein in. I think our bodies are just saying "hey, what are you doing to me?" Hang in there. Sounds like you are doing great and staying positive. It will pass, I am sure it!
  18. We used to go to Buffalo Wild Wings (pre-op) once a week. I loved that place! I imagine the chicken is good, but the sauces may not be so good. I'll have to check the nutrition facts. Can't wait though!!

    I Disagree With You But...

Although my father wasn't opposed, my reason for having the sleeve was so I could be around to raise my 3 children. If he was opposed before, he wouldn't have been after I said that. Congrats on your decision! It was the best decision I have ever made.

    Dr. David Kim - Tx?

I used Dr. Kim. He was very nice. Like the others, he didn't come see me after the surgery but oh well. His office staff is great! They made the entire process so easy, and they even helped me set up most of out of office appointments (psych/heart/etc). They even set me up with a sleep study (insurance paid for it) to find out that I had sleep apnia. Then, after getting all of my weight history from my primary physician, they submitted my case to the insurance company in which case I was approved fairly quick. I would highly recommend Dr Kim. They will make it simple for you!
