  1. While you are waiting for your approval do not be afraid to call your insurance 2-3 times a week. Don't be a pest but keep on them. I found out on 9/22 that I was denied because I called them. I wouldn't not have found out until 10/2 if I would have just waited for the letter. So since I already knew a second letter has been submitted and they have now requested additional information. Out of the 4 things that they have requested 2 of them are done and the other 2 will be done Monday night, 10/6. It is so worth calling them. (I also keep a call log)

    Just thought I would share.

Hi--Before I was banded, I suffered from low blood sugar a few times a week. After banding, I haven't had a single episode! The reason?? I have cut WAY back on carbs and have increased my Protein. The Protein takes longer to break down than carbs and helps me maintain a more steady blood sugar level. I also have LOTS more energy and feel WAY better than before when I was eating carb after carb after carb. I also make sure I have a high protein snack with me during the day "just in case". If I start feeling pretty hungry between meals, I eat it to avoid wolfing down my food at the meal later and paying dearly for it! I DO still eat carbs.....not doing Atkins by any means.....but just am sure I eat the protein first as recommended by my nutritionist. It really does work!! Good luck to you!!

Thank you! I am in the process of trying to get approved by my insurance to get banded. My insurance sounds like they will do it! Fingers crossed! I do have problems with low blood sugar a couple of times a week as well so it sounds promising that it shouldn't get worse if I take care of myself.

He doesn't talk very much but is thorough enough to make sure you are okay and doing well. He asks all the important questions and will help you through everything and his office manager sherry is very sweet. All the girls there will take good care of you. Let me know that status ..how you are doing and all that.. Will be in touch and let me know when you find anythign out. If you want to email me personally my email is everylilwhisper@aol.com

    Take care,

Thanks for the info. I am so worried that I will be turned down. I am feeling a little guilty. Feels like I am giving up. Yet I am excited and hope that I don't get turned down.

When is your surgery date or do you have one yet?

No i am very new to this. Have thought about it for a long time but just started asking questions and looking into it yesterday. How happy were you with Dr. Oh and do you know of any other patients? I am schd for the orientation next Friday. Nervous. My insurance today said that this surgery is approved by them often so I may have a good chance. We will have to see.... keeping fingers crossed.

  6. Hi! I am also from Washington (maple valley) and have recently been considering the lap band. I fluctuate between 250 and 215. I work out 5 days a week doing strength training and used to do a lot of cardio but have cut down on that in the last 3 months. I seem to get no where. My muscles have developed nicely but really no large fat loss. I am curious about your surgery. What kind of doctor does this surgery? How much did it cost you approx? Did any of your insurance cover it? Who was your doctor? Would you recommend them? Help! I really want to do this but need to convince my husband that the cost is worth it.

    stats:

5'5", 32 yrs old, married no children (don't want any) between 215-250 lbs.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.:)
