Killian's Gastric Sleeve Journey
TheNewMrsR replied to Killian's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was going to check in and see how surgery went but I see it was pushed out a couple weeks due to the insurance snag. Good luckily. It's not that far off! I hope everything goes smoothly from here on. Mine will be done on Nov. 1. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app -
My official break up with food
TheNewMrsR replied to sylvia2017's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you for sharing this. You just made me face my own reality right now. I had not put it into words before. I have planned vacations and trips around food reviews. When I plan a vacation, the first thing I do is begin researching restaurant recommendations. When I'm at home I will be planning my next meal while in still eating my current meal. Sometimes I'm planning several snacks and meals ahead while I'm eating. On Wednesday/Thursday I start asking my hubby where we should go to breakfast, lunch, dinner on the weekend. I'm always thinking of eggs Benedict, biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash, pulled off bacon, chicken fried steak, BBQ ribs, pizza, nachos... Starting now I am stopping this behaviour. My meal prep will be healthier choices. I can't let food win. I have the control. Food will no longer control me! I'm so excited for this new journey. Thank you to everyone for sharing your journey. Lap Band to Sleeve revision journey (ongoing)!
TheNewMrsR replied to breprih's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was in the same boat. Praying for sleep apnea but it turned out I didn't have it. Heck I "may" or "may not" have prayed fory doctor to find high blood pressure or that my labs came back with high blood sugar. Anything that the insurance would accept. Everything came back perfect... [emoji21] However since it was a revision LB to sleeve we were requesting, my doctor was able to show that since the band was not working I had gained back over 65% of what I lost putting my BMI at 37. My cholesterol is 279. My mother died from obesity related heart issues and diabetes at the age of 51 which is mainly why getting my health under control now it's so important to me. So with all that info my insurance finally approved it. Good luck! I wish you success in your endeavors. Here's my cyborg pic 🤣[emoji23]🤣 taken in May 2017. Did doctor office call to check on you?
TheNewMrsR replied to cindyRH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really? Wow. I guess if you had said there was a problem they would have passed that on to the doctor right? With my lap band my surgeon actually made the follow up call. But it was a high end facility and I paid them a lot of freaking money so maybe that's part of what I paid for. When I had the lap band removed years later (Feb this year) it was my new doctor and his nurse or PA called me to check on me the next day. I can't really remember which as I was still kind of out of it sleeping off the effects of the anesthesia. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app -
What is your Pre-OP Diet?
TheNewMrsR replied to hernandez776's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no pre-op diet per se. I have to be careful not to gain wait and still stick with the new way of eating that my Nut and I have been working on since Jan. Like no or minimal carbs like breads, pastas, rice, potatoes snacks etc. Eat plenty of protein and veggies. Keep at about 1000-1100 calories a day. Then nothing to eat after midnight the night before surgery. Yes, I was shocked to hear this because so many others on this forum say they have a 2-4 will pre-op diet to follow. Typically liquids like protein shakes, soups, and broths. My doctor doesn't think it's necessary or beneficial. I was recommended to try and practice eating super slow. Said I need 20-30 minutes per meal. I was like how can I make 4 ounces of food last 20 minutes? I eat three or four times that in a sitting right now and it takes me 5-7-10 minutes to eat a meal! I think slowing down is going to be my biggest challenge. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Did doctor office call to check on you?
TheNewMrsR replied to cindyRH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor called me about 48 hours after I got my lap band plus had given me his number in case I had any issues and said to call. That was several years ago. When my lap band was removed in February 2017, my current doctors office called me the following day to check on me. I appreciate the follow up and think it is very thoughtful of them to do this as I know it can be time consuming. But let's face it, there might be little things going on that we don't think anything about and by asking you a couple questions and giving you an opportunity to tell them how you feel you very well could proactively catch any post op complications before they get worse rather than wait a few days until you are miserable enough for feel justified to call them to ask if XYZ is normal. Better to be proactive rather than just reactive. 🤗 Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I was very nervous. I have BCBS and started this journey for the third time with a new doctor in Jan 2017. Had to first get approval on a lap band removal which was pretty quick and it was removed Feb. 2017. Then had to jump through all the hoops, see a nut for 6 months, get a sleep study, lab work, phyc eval and then finally the day came when the doctor could submit everything. They kept coming at him asking for more documentation and they eventually denied it. He sent an appeal and scheduled a phone appointment with them and had ALL of my patient history ready. Less than two full weeks after the denial after the phone appointment he called me with the great news that he had been able to get it approved. I was over the moon with surprise, joy, and excitement. I felt like someone just told me I had won the lottery and I was now a millionaire? My surgery could have been in October but I already had a vacation planned for the last two weeks of the month to fly out of state for my youngest daughters wedding. They didn't want me dealing with any potential after surgery issues or taking 9 hour flights too soon so they scheduled me for the first available date afterwards which is Nov. 1. Hang in there? Dreams do come true! Prayers are answered. Get a good doctor who knows how to advocate for you. My previous two accepted the denial to easily and left me sad and depressed. It was the second doctor who actually recommended my current doctor to me. Said he may better be able to help me. I've learned that some doctors only like the easy yesses. Mexican Doctor needed
TheNewMrsR replied to slt77036's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had a friend go to Mexico. I went with her as far as San Diego (only 4 hours drive from where we live) and waited for her. They picked her and half a dozen other patients up at a huge parking lot at border. I enjoyed San Diego for three days then went back to the parking and waited for them to bring her back. It was a couple days before Christmas so the trip back took about 4 hours longer because so many people were at the border coming in to do last minute shopping. I think she went to Angeles hospital Tijuana. She said it was the best hospital experience she ever had. It was more like an experience at a nice hotel. Nurses at her beck and call. Friendly. Clean. Excellent care. And she came back with a whole variety of protein drinks and Pedialyte. We were required to stay in San Diego two nights after they brought her back so that if there was any problems they could pick her up and bring her back to the hospital. This was for lap band surgery in 2010 and she paid 4,500 USD. Hers was one year after I paid 18,000 USD To have mine done in California as an out patient with half the care she received! I was so jealous that she paid so much less and got better care! -
Disputed insurance

Disputed insurance
TheNewMrsR replied to sweetsleeveday's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BCBS. Yes. My current doctor had to make a phone call to conference with them and advocate all the reasons why I needed this and they finally approved!!! Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app -
That happened to me twice in the last 4 years. Months of my time wasted and major expenses for my co pays, plus all the time I missed from work for all the appointments. Each time it happened, I switched insurance during open enrollment at work and started all over again with a brand new doctor. Third time was a charm. Found a doctor who knew how to advocate for me and got everything approved and my surgery will be Nov 1, 2017. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app

Whoa really? That's good to know. I only fly about 5 trips a year but I have not seen these refill stations yet!!! That's awesome. I usually get stuck buying a $4 bottle of Fiji water or something. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Lapband to sleeve revision done oct 3
TheNewMrsR replied to Road2health's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes. It is very painful when it tears off the muscle wall it's attached to. I think it was from running and too much vigorous "bedroom play time"... Little by little it Jarred loose and was hanging upside down so that the doctor could not even access it for fills. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Thanks for the visual breakdown by month. That's really helpful! I can only hope and pray mine goes like that... Being a revision band to sleeve, I've read that I should have low expectations... T-21 days till my surgery!!! Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app

I would have a little, not all removed. When I flew to Hawaii, I had some swelling and suddenly could not swollen anything. Not even water. After 3 complete days of not being able to keep anything down and being severely dehydrated and very weak I ended up in the ER getting two ivs of fluid and an unfill. As soon as they took the fluid out, I gulped down a tons of water. I was Soooo thirsty. My insurance did not cover it so it ended up costing me over $3,000! After that, I took no chances when it came to flying. Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app

I went in to my doctor and played up how painful my port was and he was able to get my insurance to cover the removal/revision after years of being denied. My band was removed in Feb. And my vsg will be on Nov. 1 Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app
