  1. Mine was three months at first, so when I was on my 3rd visit (May 2011) my Weight Loss Institute called me and said my insurance requirements had changed. Devistated. Then I got pissed and said well I'll show you and didn't see my PCP for two months. Boy I really showed them didn't I. How stupid was that! The insurance requirements were changed to six months with my pcp. My last appt. with my surgeon did count though. My visits also did not have to be consecutive. My recommendation to ANYONE getting this surgery is don't let other people (your Dr.s office) do the work for you. You are the patient- CALL your insurance company. Mine faxed me the direct weight loss surgery policy so if I had any questions, I could refer to that. Every insurance company is different, so stay up on it.
  2. Each insurance is different on the requirements. I have Blue Cross blue Shield (anthem) and they had me do 6 months of Dr. supervised visits for weight loss (I didn't lose a thing). I would just check out and ask specific questions when you are inquiring to various insurance groups to fax you their specific policies regarding lapband surgery and specifically ask how long you have to be insured before it will cover. You don't want to get into it and then have any surprises come up. Good luck with your journey!

    Hello From A Lapband Newbie!

Welcome and congrats! I'm not weighing myself yet- I'm only 4 days out, I see my surgeon on Monday, then I will try to weigh only weekly, but I can totally tell I've lost weight! Good luck on your journey- keep us posted!

    Mrsa In Port Area

I would think that removing port would be next option. Also, with MRSA re-currences are likely unfortunately. We all have staph on our body, but you don't want to become septic messing with it. Best of luck to you for a speedy recovery!

    Three Days Out!

Journey4me- definitely stock your house with everything you will need before surgery. Invest in a pill crusher/cutter, gas-x for sure! I found that the progresso soups strained filled me more than just broth. Super excited for you!

    Banded Via Sils Yesterday

Hey ! Tender is a great way to put it. I had the 2incision lapband and i tell you what this left side is killing me! Im 4 days out now and today i think i overdid it. I went for a drive by myself ( not really sure what my dr said), but i just couldnt stay in the house anymore. Visited my parents about 45min. Away then took a nap at my sisters on the way home. By time i got home i was in quite a bit of pain. Took a loooong hotshower and just now am starting on my second protein shake. I switched to Nectar sweets brand chocolate. My sheet says i can have skim milk so i mixed it with that and i seem to be doing better. I was tired of pooping!( sorry to be gross). Having issues with constantly needing to sneeze, and tonight im very tearful. I think its because im such a go getter and right now im not seeing the light at the end where i will feel like myself again..........

    January Surgery Bandsters Group

2manymeds, I mean holy sheet (pun intended). I was always "regular" 5x daily (sorry to get so personal), so after surgery I didnt go for 2 days. Now its like the protein shakes go right through me! Im going to go get some fiber powder and see if that helps. Thanks for the tip.
  11. Well, it's about 10:16p St. Louis time. After nesting like a pregnant mother getting ready to deliver twins, I have successfully cleaned the kitchen, done ALL the laundry, finished my business tasks I needed to get done, swept, dusted. You name it. Has anyone else experienced that? I'm sure my husband is thinking, "You should get surgery more often and our house would be cleaner!" Kids are all tucked in, I'm getting ready to hibacleanse scrub and then I think I'm hitting the sak. I was not required to do a pre-surgery diet at all, but felt it would be best. At first I was going to do all hard core, but I really did protein shakes, and high protein meat. No bread (except at Maggiano's once) and I've quit soda cold turkey. I've lost 9lbs pre-op. Today I did egg whites with spinach, 2 pc turkey bacon. Then an Isopure for lunch, and I've had two protein shakes. Not as hard as I thought leading up to surgery. I'm fortunate enough to be a nurse in the surgery center world, so I already know who my CRNA will be. Kind of weird though now everytime I see her I will think, gee she saw my big NAKED fatty-boubaladdy self! Oh well. I guess there could be worse things right. Super excited to start feeling better. 0930 can't get here soon enough! I don't even care about skinny clothes or looking, "hot". I want to be able to bend over and tie my shoes without being out of breath. I want to get up in the morning and not have to lug around an extra 200lbs. This fat chic is ready to be healthy!

    Extreme Hunger Pains!!!

Hey- I'm just three days out and have heard my stomach growling, but no hunger pains as of yet. My protein shakes are finally running right through me so I think I need to up my water. Its so hard getting all my fluids, all my protein etc in. I've been off pain meds since yesterday. I just want to feel like my old self. I don't like not having energy. I've been gradually doing things around the house. Great job on your weight loss so far! Thats promising and inspiring! I've yet to get on a scale. Figured I would wait until my first appt. Keep me posted. We can do this!
  13. Ok, im 8 days out and typically I'm NOT a nervous nelly. Im a surgical nurse so I know the ins and outs of how the day should go, so WHY am I so nervous? Its all i can think about! Is anyone else experiencing this?

    Meds For Lap Banders

My surgeons recommendations are nothing bigger than an aspirin. I do chewable vitamins, crush my prilosec, and my B1 i pour out of the capsule and mix in jello. Always check with your pharmacy what can and cant be crushed, as well as following your Dr. Orders.

    Got My Band!!!

Last night i stayed in the recliner and didnt sleep to good. Might try the bed tonight. When i breath in deep my left side pulls. Im backing down on my loratab to every 5hrs and 10ml instead if 15ml. I havent been hungry at all, hope that feeling lasts!

    Got My Band!!!

I'm not feeling that bloating everyone talks about? My surgeon "suspends" the liver out of the way with sutures anchoring it up. Not sure if everyone does that. Overall, I'm doing great. Getting my fluids/60g protein shakes in and thank God I finally pooped today (sorry to be so forthcoming!) Glad the site is back up. I was kind of going through withdrawls. Feeling slightly weak, but making myself get up and do little things around the house. Hope you all are well! Maggie
  18. My pre op testing is done! Seven days away. So excited!
  19. I've been so busy with my photobooth business (Thank God!) over this last weekend with a big wedding show that the time has FLOWN by! Can't believe tomorrow is here. I have to arrive by 0930. Was NOT very impressed with not finding out my surgery time/arrival until after 5:00pm today, AND after I called them twice. People have to make arrangements, etc. I truly get surgery scheduling because I'm a surgery nurse, but really? Finding out my surgery time at 5:30pm the night before surgery? Kind of re-donk-ulous. I'm getting ready to go scrub-a-dub-dub! See you all on the skinny side! Maggie
  20. Getting ready to leave for surgery!
  21. I'm also having my surgery tomorrow ! Good luck!

    Hai :)

Tiana! Congratulations on taking back your life NOW! Reading your post, you literally had me in tears. If I could turn back the clock and start this process at your age, I think we all would. You are not alone in this, and I too was told to get off a ride (as everyone is sitting there starting at me knowing why I was asked to get off). If you need any support at all please email. So excited for you!

    Is Anyone Else Getting Nervous?

Hi horsegirl- you should be fine. Surgery of course there are risks, but unless you have extreme health issues youll be fine. Dont freak yourself out too much.
