The ones that have PCOS...did you have gastric bypass or are you going for gastric bypass to improve your PCOS to be able to have kids or to be able to have more kids?
-
Hi and welcome I'm also new to this website (well I was actually in lapbandtalk but switched to gastric bypass) and I also meet my surgeon on the 14th

Hi there! I can sooo relate to what you went through! I too have been over weight since I was an early teen! Have one son, had 2 miscarrages after him and have a lot of issues with my health. I talked to my doc friday about gettibg set up in the path for tge surgery. Im calling monday to start settibg everything up. I would love to be a friend and us talk and support each other through all of this. If so you can email me at inkedempress@yahoo.com and if you want we can exchange cell numbers and txt. Its nice to have a friend who can relate. Good luck with everything!
Thanks sooo much I will definitely be emailing you. I have support from friends and family but no one that has really gone through the surgery that has gone through the same things that I have. I mean my husband's aunt (who's in her 60s now I believe) had it but that was 5-6 years ago and her experience was a lot more different because of her age lol. I've had a total of 5 miscarriages :'( I had one before I had our daughter, then I was raped by an ex-boyfriend, ended up pregnant then miscarried that one, miscarried again in 2009 then 2 last year. Everyone asks why I'm going for surgery now instead of when I'm in my 30s and 40s lol HELLO I WANT TO STILL BE YOUNG WHEN I HAVE MORE CHILDREN lol I'm only 25 (I just turned 25 on April 1st). I also want to be able to run with my daughter and to keep up with her lol.

Welcome to the boards! What a cute family you are. Congrats on everything- it will go fast. Everyone here is helpful Snd supportive so don't be afraid to use us. 5 days and counting
Thanks so far it's been fast because there's only 2 weeks between my first appointment and my second appointment and meeting my surgeon. the program that I'm going through usually has you attending 4-5 appointments before you even meet your surgeon but I'm very thankful that I got the green light and can meet my surgeon after my second appointment

Hi everyone!!! My name is Krystyne and I started my weight loss journey back in September/October time at 315 pounds. I'm currently 268 pounds as of this morning. I started out on the lap band talk website because my heart was set on going for lap band surgery until I met with the dietician and nurse practitioner at DHMC. I have been overweight since age 12 that's when my PCOS kicked in. PCOS is the number one leading cause of infertility in women. I found out that gastric bypass can help reduce your PCOS symptoms and in some women it gets rid of it all together. So at age 12 I went from 110 pounds to 289 pounds in 1 1/2 years. I never changed my eating habits to gain the weight until at like age 16. I was getting picked on at school and the children would "MOO" at me and push me down the stairs so I've had 3 knee surgeries due to that. My husband and I have one child together and last year I suffered 2 miscarriages and even my OBGYN recommended me for bariatric surgery. He wanted me to go for gastric bypass but didn't know if I was big enough and thursday they confirmed that my BMI still qualifies me for it WOOHOO lol. I go on June 14th for my second appointment with the dietician and the nurse practitioner and then I meet with my surgeon afterwards because I got the bright green light to go from the nurse practitioner. Usually at DHMC you don't get to see your surgeon until the 4th or 5th appointment. They said that on June 14th, that after my appointments that they will be sending a request for my insurance to cover my surgery and that could take up to a month. I'm excited because they said that I should have my surgery hopefully by the beginning of August but I'm hoping that it's sooner My HUGE reason for the surgery besides getting healthy and to be around longer for my family is to add to our family my husband wants 4-5 more (OMG I don't know if I could handle that many lol) but we do want a big family but he's a truck driver that is only home every 1-2 weeks for a few days lol. But that's basically my story. (The pic is of my husband, daughter and I)

I go in for my first pre-op visit on Thursday YAY but I did 6 months with a nutritionist prior to my appoinment. It all depends on insurance and the program u go through
-
I haven't been banded yet (hopefully in June or July I just scheduled my first pre-op appointment for Thursday at 10am) and I was told by many people I personally know that have been banded that restriction takes time...most said it took them anywhere from 7months-2 years before they got restriction and 25% of people that I know that are banded haven't hit restriction and they are filled to capacity...good luck
-
Oh that's great I don't need any of that...I guess each place has their own Tests that they want done lol...I had to do a lot of stuff before I could even get my first appointment...my insurance demanded me seeing a nutritionist for 6 months before surgery and on top of that Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (the hospital where I'm going through their Bariatric program) has a whole packet of stuff that needs to be completed...they used to want a patient to lose 15 pounds before surgery...well in October I was 315 pounds and I'm currently 263 pounds I think I hit that even tho they now only go by if ur insurance wants u to lose a certain about of weight...food luck on ur journey let me know when ur surgery date is and maybe we can be lap band buddies if it's the same day
-
Thanks I'm sooo excited I can't even stop smiling lol I just hope I can have surgery next month or in July does it move fast after the first appointment? I hope so
-
I'm sooo excited next Thursday at 10am I have my first appointment and it's 2 hours long. Afterwards I have to have my blood drawn because my doctor's office didn't do 3 other tests GRRR but that's okay and I then schedule my second appointment I'm sooo excited that I can't stop smiling. I've been on my journey for 9 months so far (I know it doesn't seem that long) and I'm sooo excited that soon I'll be having surgery
-
they finally sent me an email back and she told me that once they receive all of my records then I will have my first appointment within a week or two weeks. I got a hold of my doctor's office and they just kept faxing my pap smear order and not the results IDIOTS!!! so yesterday they finally sent the correct paper and I also got a hold of my therapist yesterday. She finally faxed my 2 psychological evaluations yesterday. What took her so long to do so was her father passed away. I feel bad that she lost her father but she felt bad for not faxing my evaluations and I told her that it was completely understandable. But now when I go to look at my tasks on remedyehr.com it says that they need my 6 months dietary supervision papers before I can have my first appointment GRRR so I sent yet ANOTHER email to them asking what is going on because I sent them with my packet and the woman didn't mention any of that in her email about paperwork missing. I swear going for lap band you have to jump through sooo many hoops lol but its worth it in the end
-
Good luck tomorrow keep us posted
-
They have all the stuff they need from my doctor, nutritionist, psychologist all of that stuff. Once they get that then they schedule your first pre-op visit with their nutritionist and nurse practitioner. I've emailed them (they use remedyehr.com) and no reply back from 3 days ago...I'm getting impatient and anxious and nervous lol
-
So I was wondering if any of you knew approximately how long it takes to get your first appointment after they get all of your information. They should have finished getting all of mine almost 2 weeks ago. I'm impatiently waiting because I want to be banded already lol
-
Yeah well it is state insurance so it covers a lot of things 100% but I have had to jump through a lot of hoops. I'm still waiting for my first of 4 appointments before I even get my surgery date. They still have to approve it and everything. I'm getting anxious and nervous and impatient lol
-
They cover lap band 100%...it's my state insurance that I pay for...I pay a monthly fee to be on it
-
Now I don't have to worry about my husband's insurance because he no longer works for the company so they are billing my previous insurance which I'm back on
-
The hospital does deal with BCBS and my deductible is $100 and max out of pocket doesn't have a certain number. I guess it's unlimited. They do cover the surgery (my insurance) but I have 3 places near me that do it and the hospital that I chose is ranked high compared to the others
-
Yeah that's what I'm thinking but then I have to worry about my fills
-
Yeah that's why I'm going to go along with what I need to then when it comes to the cost I'm going to find out how come they charge $26,000 TOTAL for gastric bypass but yet lap band is supposed to be cheaper and they are having me pay $11,000 out of pocket after my insurance pays their 80%.
-
Well the thing is is it's at a hospital. I have WellMark BCBS if Iowa but its PPO and I live in Vermont and I'm having the surgery in New Hampshire. I had state health insurance when I started this whole process. The reason why I have the insurance that I have now is because my husband is an over the road truck driver and the head quarters for the company he works for is out of Iowa. I'm guessing that she's wrong because I've never heard of that. Worst comes to worst I'll pay out of pocket. $11,000 is a rediculous amount to pay out of pocket when I have insurance
-
I think they are in my network but I'm not positive and I've already paid the $250 fee...I figure that if I do have to pay $11,000 out of pocket that I can set up payment plans but it still doesn't make sense to me so I'm waiting to see what happens. I'll be finding out WHY it costs that much
-
that can't be right. That means the doctor giving you the band is charging almost $100,000 for the surgery. Something is not correct. Most surgeries are $11,000 - $18,000.
yeah see that's what I thought...it doesn't make sense at all but that's what she said. I just don't understand it.
-
That makes no sense to me. Is this person from the insurance company or the doctor's office?
She's with the surgeon's office and it doesn't make sense to me either...it's sooo messed up so guess what...it looks like I'll be doing a payment arrangement. Gastric Bypass is only $26,000 total and my parents joked that I should just go for that lol I want lap band tho
