  1. I know the feeling. My husband is on board (many people in his family has had Bariatric surgery) and my mom and dad are on board along with my kids. Some of my friends are (one had the sleeve done 12/15/15) but others aren't. One of my older brothers is on board and the other one that's overweight REFUSES to get it and just keeps saying he won't do it because it not worth it or something.

I also have PCOS and part of that is being insulin resistant. Having PCOS sucks and I was told that in the end you will get diabetes HOWEVER losing weight will hold it off as long as possible so you may be in your 80s or 90s when you get it. That's just what my doctor has told me and idk if it's true or if it was a tactic to scare me.

As long as you have the support of your husband and you want to go for surgery, go for it :) don't let negativity hold you back. You also have all of us here for support

  2. Thank you everyone. I'm hoping mine is no longer then an hour since I have to do 2 of them. I know my program has a letter I have to give him telling him the questions they want asked which he is well aware of since he's the one everyone in my area uses. I've never met him but when I spoke to him on the phone, he seemed kind of "cold" towards me. Idk hopefully he's better in person lol.

  3. I've gotten pregnant twice before finishing up the process lol this is my 3rd time going for it. I have a 9 year old daughter, 3 year old son (got pregnant with him during the process) and 5 month old daughter (got pregnant with her last year when I was going through the process). I'm on the Mirena now. They said it was be best one to be on since I don't have to remember to take it and everything.

  4. I told them originally I only wanted the sleeve. You will not be able to take Any NSAIDS after surgery.{Aspirin.Aleve,Napraoxen,Moltrin}. This will lead to ulcers.
My surgeon told me that if you take NSAIDs then to get the sleeve so you can still take them. Said with the bypass you can't take them.

Yeah my back would get so bad I was on 10-325 percocet for 2 yrs with muscle relaxers. After 2 yrs of epidurals and facet joint injections I'm off those meds. That over the counter stuff never helped me any I heard you can still take Tylenol. I think you gotta look at all your health conditions and look at which one gives you a higher percentage chance of giving you a better quality of life. The data is out there and we all have to make the call to what is best for each of us

Yeah I have back issues as well. I have herniated discs and a healed compressed fracture. Before they wanted me to do bypass then I ended up pregnant then the second time they said sleeve and I ended up pregnant again. My thing is now that I've cut out sofa, I can go off my Prilosec with no issues. Idk I also believe that doctors need to take what their patient wants into consideration as well.

  5. I have PCOS and PTSD (depression/anxiety)with current medications. They want to know that its under control, that you have a support system, not suicidal, homicidal lol....., have realistic goals for weight loss, are doing it to be healthy and be a part of a personal improvement goal, not as if this surgery will FIX you and make all problems go away. Fyi, my ringtone is a song that starts out saying "Are you insane like me" and of course I got a call in the middle of my psych eval. Luckily we both just laughed. Im getting sleeved Dec 16th. Good luck!

I also have PTSD, anxiety, depression and panic attacks. I'm not suicidal or homicidal lol I just hope he doesn't judge me. I have realistic goals. I know the sleeve is just a tool to help me lose weight. My anxiety creeps into my head and I start panicking

  6. I am sorry to hear that. I think it is safe to say all of us have probably endured some sort of depression due the size we were, even without the bullying from others.

Go in there with a great attitude and your head held high. They usually only are able to know what you tell them!

Just go with your gut and keep focused on what it is you want... a healthier life!

    Good Luck!

Thank you :) I just hope this guy isn't judgemental. I've dealt with enough of those type of people in my life I don't need another one lol

  7. Wow. 25?!. My psych evaluation also included a "personally test" that asks the same questions over and over but in a different context. The test was also making sure I wasn't depressed, suicidal or angry with the world. It was pretty smooth sailing. You will be just fine :)

I'm afraid he will bring up my past depression. I have PCOS and gained my weight due to it and struggled since age 12 and I'm now 29. Getting bullied due to my weight so that caused me to be depressed.

  8. I'll be having mine next year I just don't know when since I'm at the beginning stages

Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

The time will go by fast! That I can say! Take these beginning stages to learn all you can, watch youtube videos, it helps make the time go by.

This is my 3rd time going for it lol the first two times I ended up pregnant. I have PCOS and discovered birth control pills don't work for me lol I'm on the mirena now. I have my own YouTube channel I watch a lot of other VSG YouTube channels and follow a lot of them

I have much more then that to do lol they said it'll be 3-9 months before I get my surgery date because of how my program does things. They said that since u have most of it done that I'm on the fast track but it'll be at least 3 months minimum

  10. Welcome to the group I'm restarting the process again. I know with the sleeve, it's easier when you get pregnant. I have 3 kids (lots of miscarriages due to PCOS) and we want at least 1-2 more and was told by many that you can get pregnant sooner when you have the sleeve done and that you won't have to take as many extra Vitamins like you would if you had the bypass. That's just what I've been told.

  11. My insurance required 6 months of medically supervised weight loss, but they would count any medically documented attempts within two years prior. I, unfortunately, didn't have any. It took me 6 months, but I was finally sleeved 11/26/2016. Good Luck!

Yeah mine requires 6 consecutive months with a nutritionist with the last 2 years which I have a year straight so that's no biggy. I am worried my insurance will deny it and how much I'll need to pay out of pocket.

Check with your insurance re what's required. Some will need as little as 2-3 months to do the requisite appointments, others as long as 6-7 months

I know some of what they want. Will the Bariatric program tell me? I know they usually check with insurances about that stuff.

  12. Last year I started the process of going for the gastric sleeve but then found out I was pregnant last Halloween and had my 3rd child, a baby girl, July 5, 2016. I go this Friday December 1st for my introduction meeting. I'm excited because I'm finally going to finalize the process and also because I have new insurance through my husband's job and found out that they do cover the surgery and that I won't have to pay much out of pocket. How long has it taken everyone to do the process?

  13. Yes I am too. I started my process in August then stopped sending papers in but I have kept all of my appointments. I got scared 3 days before surgery back in 2012 and canceled my surgery for gastric bypass. I'm sad I did because then I would be in better shape now BUT I'm also glad I canceled because I know I want the sleeve 10000000% lol it is completely normal to be nervous. Let your surgeon know. My surgeon pointed me into directions for more research that I could do to make myself feel better. Just keep telling yourself that it's worth it, YOU ARE WORTH IT ????
