So the day is finally (almost) here. It seemed like it would never arrive! I am on Clear Liquids today, and am feeling pretty good, other than having a splitting headache. I am leaving tomorrow at 8 am to get to the hospital for 9. Surgery is at 10:30. I am nervous for surgery and excited to finally be banded. I would like to thank you all for your help throughout this entire preop process, this board has been invaluable to me, knowing what to expect in my new banded life. I'll see you all on the BANDED SIDE!!

I think part of the basics of eating properly that you need to get back to include how to eat as well as what to eat. It sounds as though a lot of your problems may have been caused by you eating too fast or not chewing properly or not leaving enough time between bites. If you haven't got this right then it is easy to get stuck and "vomit". Make no mistake it can be hard. First you have to unlearn the eating habits that you had for the rest of your life up until being banded.
You have also learned that no matter what you will always be able to eat candy. You need to find some way of dealing with this. You may need to cut it out completely. You may want to make an allowance for it in your calorie or points for the day/week.
You have also found out that having WLS does not guarantee success. That is because it is only a tool. It makes healthy eating a lot easier but it doesn't make the food choices for you or put the food into your mouth. That is the part of the process that you will always be responsible for.
Also at the beginning it is new and exciting and we are really motivated. After a while that wears off and it becomes easier to slip into bad habits. What you need to do is remember the reasons you wanted to lose the weight in the first place.
So you have made mistakes but that doesn't matter.Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back to basics. Do this and I am sure you will soon achieve the success that you are after.
And don't forget to keep logging onto LBT as you will get lots of support and encouragement.

Guess i beat the averages you have been quoted to me if you have the right mind set and are prepared to put the work in then it 'should' work for you and how hard u work and restrictions you place on yourself will help you beat those averages too. I know the averages sound a little low to you but to me this was a decision for the rest of my life , if it took 2 or 3 yrs to lose all the weight that i needed too i was prepared to do it. I researched the band and bypass and was much happier with the complications that could arise from a band than what can happen with a bypass.
Do your homework and reach an informed decision based on all the factors, how fast you lose the weight is pretty low on the list really, how long have u been overweight compared to maybe taking 2 years to lose it, if i only had 100 lbs to lose it would have taken me 6 months so it can be done faster
Good luck and do what you need to do that will give you the best outcome in the long term !

Thanks you both for your information. I definately have a sweet tooth - always have....but I eat too much, too fast - I feel like a hoover vacuum cleaner sometimes! I'm in month 2 of a required 6 month program for WLS and I don't have to make a decision about which surgery until the last month. I want the surgery that is less severe, but worry about band erosion, slippage etc....and also about their percentage of 33% (I guess it's just an average).

    First things first, welcome
To answer your first question, my surgeon asked if I was a sweet eater or a volume eater. I told him volume, if I have a plate or food I have to finish it. So he suggested the band. Band makes you eat less. Bypass gives dumping syndrome. Basically the two different surgeries use your faults to make you productive. He also said because I was so young I could take the weight off working with the band rather than letting it fall off with bypass.
As for the amount of weight loss. My nutritionist reassured me that the diet, mine anyway, with the band is designed to make you lose 1-2 lbs a week. And, that's the diet in itself, so with the help of diet AND exercise you're guaranteed to lose more.
    Hope this helps, good luck!

Heh, I guess I would understand where you would wonder about your doc running to the printer. LOL. For me, though, it's sort of a Quest and so I suspected a doc who doesn't appear to have extra weight on would take the attitude he did. It was honestly a moment of truth and I'm focused to the point that I would have likely fired him if he refused to recommend. I've been seeing him for over a year now and have been attempting to lose weight through his guidance. He has offered nothing other than order bloodwork to see how horrible my lipids were. In the end he gave me the green light, so now I don't have to work through him any longer. (Yay!)
    Cheers,
    Jason

My doc is a skinny twig - but a good guy and very supportive. He is also blunt - I like that. Glad to hear you are focused. Do you know anyone else who has had it done. Both of my step-daughters have done it and both have had some success but are even more successful at cheating the band. Their problem is sweets - mine is volume. Sweets seem to go down very easy so one keeps drinking her mocha caramal cappacinos with extra carmel and the otther her ice cream and candy (even for breakfast) I hope I have learning from their mistakes! Plus I really have the problem of wanting the biggest steak and the biggest potato and yes to appetizer thank you. The biggest eye opener to me is learning to eat my Protein first . I have always always eaten all the veggies first. Surprise - the Protein really does fill you up!

Coal.... it is very important that you have the dr. office submit the dr. findings and all test results as a packet.... not individually..... insurance company will "loose" the paperwork are so they will say..... not as easy to lose a packet of paper than "one or two sheets". My dr. compiled all the paper work and gave them a surg. date... UHC approved on the first try.
Keep on top of the workers at your surg. office..... very important!!! I got my approval with in a week of the submission.
No sleep app, no HB, no Diebetes, no anything...... just FAT....5'2" and 223.... approved
Oh... and sorry about your lose last night against the 49er.... being a saints fan... i was cheering for you.
