Did I Make The Right Choice?

I know how you feel...I"m three weeks out and I had "bought the farm" on buyer's remorse right after surgery. I was mentally miserable. I just thought that I would always feel this way...but everyday will get better. I find it strange that they left your drain in...weird. When I started on soft solid food...I started feeling a little more normal. Which doctor did your surgery? I had mine done there too!

Going On A Date..what To Eat?

Congrats on the date. Sounds like fun! I'm married but I know one thing...I wouldn't tell him about my surgery...none of his biz until you have formed a solid bond (engaged to be married or solid relationship)! But that's just my opinion....I had a similar situation...office Christmas luncheon! We all had to pre-order our dish. I'm only 3 weeks post op so I ordered the fresh mushrooms and Pasta. I was thinking something soft. I gave most of my mushrooms to an admiring co-worker and took a few bites of pasta...then I started cutting it all up into little bits on my plate...wow...that looked like I'd put a dent in the dish! I think read somewhere that's how anorexic sufferers used to fake eating. So I tried it and it looked pretty good. One thing I do know is that I'm not going to continue to eat and damage myself so that people won't question me. I'm not saying this is your thought process...it was just what was going through my mind at the luncheon. I think you have the best idea though...just let him know you are not that hungry...and that's the truth!
  3. SherylO, Sorry I didn't respond sooner...just saw this. How are you doing now?!?! I hope all is well. Keep us updated!
  4. Cool! I did it with my sister...it's so great to have someone you know to go through this with you right!?!? Good luck to you too qtpatootie77! How are you doing now by the way?
  5. My sister and I in the same boat. 3 weeks out and no loss. From what I've been reading this is normal. Alot of people experience the 3 week stall. With the amount of food that you are intaking...loss is bound to pick up again soon. Hang in there!! Trust me this is going to work for you. I'll keep you updated.
  6. Ohhh boy...the buyers remorse is not letting up. My energy is so low that when I walked in my GP's office, he took my stats and threw me on a table to take, heart and blood tests. My energy is so low that I can't walk more than a few feet without needing a break. Pulse was at 176 p/m! My blood sugar was low as well. I've been trying so hard to be text book with the diet, but it's hard to get all the fluids and food they ask. With all the things I'm dealing with...how is it possible to be happy right now? I've lost 16 lbs by day 11 and I could care less!!! I just want to feel normal again! Somebody please give me some motivation right now.
  7. I am one week post op and feel like the reason I can't get enough fluids because I have to sip sip sip sip sip sip sip....darn it....burp sip, burp sip...burp sip...sip sip sip....Older sleevers what is your experience? If I even TRY to drink more...oh...it's coming back up Suzie!! :ack2:
  8. OK....it's day 16 and I REALLY can drink more now!!! Yessss!!!! I'm feeling much better today. I can tell my sleeve is expanding some! Thanks for the motivation guys...

    Ez Chicken Enchilada Stew

Thanks for the tip! That looks awesome!
  11. Feedyoureye please tell me what PPI is. I see it mentioned on the board often.
  12. Hey Christy, I was having a problem with that too. The Prilosec really helped with that and any sour stomach that I have. I take it once a day. I'm still not back at work because I just don't have the energy. I plan to go back tomorrow though...dreading it....I'll let you know how it goies. I'm down about 20lbs in the two weeks since surgery. How about you?
  13. "Licking a zoo?" That's hilarious! But I know how you feel? I keep gargling and apologizing to my hubby for my breathe because I can smell it and I know it's bad. I use my electric toothbrush on my tongue to get rid of the thrush looking coating that tends to build up. You must be in the early stages of post op. I am on day 14 and I know once I'm able to have more carbs this problem will go away. But for now...all this soup and sugar free stuff that we are having is making us go into a ketosis state....that's my guess anyways.

What Should I Tell My Doctor?

Personally...I'm not intimidated by any PCP or anyone else. You can tell the truth...that's great. It's not about feeling like a kid or being afraid to talk to someone PERIOD! It's about not being covered by your insurance and paying thousands of dollars out of you own pocket. That's why my initial response was to tell them you had the surgery...but by an American doctor. I would feel better if I could just go to them and say ohhh yes...I had surgery in Mexico can you follow up on everything I need? They will say sure...weeks later you will probably get the bill. Why? Because they will look at it as non-necessary because you couldn't meet the criteria defined by your insurance company as "needing" this surgery. In THIS economy...I can't risk it. Even though I work over seas. I still work for the U.S. and still feel the pinch of a tight financial situation. Ultimately the decision is up to you.
  15. Awww thank you Kathy!!! Yes me and Toosiejuice are sisters and very close. It was great to go through this with a sister, one who happens to be my best friend. We are doing well...it's so cool to actually call up someone you know at anytime and say "hey is your so and so feeling so and so?" We were in rooms facing each other in the hospital and shared time together in the hotel before we flew our separate ways on the last day! We hadn't seen each other in a while so it was really great. We hope you are doing well too, Blessings!
  16. Today is the day of your surgery and I hop you are doing well! Please come back and update us on how you are doing. Ohh...by the way...I don't' know anything about the San Diego area. I just tried to focus on staying well so I didn't venture out much before I left! Blessings!
  17. Hi bturner, The name of the hospital was Mi Hospitalia...something like that. It was a clinic. It didn't have a whole lot of rooms but was clean and staffed 24 hours. I'm not sure if there was a team of doctors. I only saw one and that was Dr. Garcia. He was great. I am 14 days out and I haven't had any problems that were related to anything he did. I've been a bit dehydrated, and going through the normal things that I'm sure you've read about. My sister and I and another lady were there on the same day to do the same surgery and we all are doing well. I keep in touch with the other lady as well. We all have lost 18lbs or more in the first two weeks, no leaks or complications. HTH!
  18. Oooooohhh me too! I just hit day 14...yea puree! I want everything I see. If a burger commercial is on...it's all I could ever want in life. I even crave veggies....what I wouldn't give for a salad right now! I know I could only handle a bite and I would be good! I know someone that had gastric bypass and she used to chew it up and spit it out! It was the only way she made it through...I'm not advising this because....well....I'm not a doctor...just sharing!

What Should I Tell My Doctor?

Was thinking I'd just lie! If it came up of course. I mean does it matter where you were as long as you need help? I was just going to say I paid a dr. to do this in San Diego because the insurance companies don't like to pay for follow up treatement if it's done out of the country. I actually reside now overseas now so I really don't see what the difference is. I went to my German doc the other day and told him I had surgery to reduce my stomach and he didn't ask another question about where it was done. He just treated me for my fast heartbeat and dehydration. Let us know what you decide!
  20. Hi i'm sorry you are feeling this way. I felt like this too. It was still hard for me to get all of my liquids in for a week or so. My experience as well as what others have told me here is to just constantly sip. Chew ice and swallow to help the swelling. I was directed to have cold drinks the first few days because that does help with the swelling. However...this didn't feel great going down. Are you still in the hospital or at the hotel? Take advantage of the ice bins to keep your drinks cold....and sip all day. It's ssssooo annoying to focus on sipping all day but your energy and hydration will deplete if you don't. I am on day 13 and still having problems getting all of my fluids...BUT it has gotten 100 percent better to drink as compared to day 1 and 2. Hang in there~ Blessings!
  21. Welocome! I was sleeved on 26 Nov in TJ by Dr. Garcia. I had a similar experience. It's so crazy how there would be another option than getting it done in the states. According to your post you should be about one month out. How are you feeling? Again welcome to the board. Please share all your experiences with us. I love to read about others going through what I'm going through.
  22. Thanks MiniMommy, That's what I kept telling my doctor. He wasn't hearing it. So I have decided to stay up late tonite just to get more liquids in. I'm a slow sipper because I've puked several times by trying to get the volume of liquids in. I love to hear from you guys who have been going through this longer. Thanks for the response!

    Ferocious Frustration!

I feel your pain and will say a prayer for you as I am on day 11 and know JUST how you are feeling. I said those very words to my husband today..."I've never been concerned about eating to live"! I just want to eat and worry about everything else in my life. The sleeve forces you to focus on nothing but "it" when you first get it. Christmas is coming up and my life is out of sorts. I don't have the energy to deal with it all. I wish I could eat protein drinks and yogurt! They gag me...now what?!?!? I need a tiny 60mg protein pill to take everyday....dissolvable pill that is! lol We will get through this and this will pass soon enough and all of these feelings will be a distant memory that we share with the up and coming newbies...I know we shouldn't wish our life away...but I'm looking darn forward to being at least 1 month out! Blessings!
  24. Thanks Felicia. I thought I was going to tap out at the doctor's today...I was so scared when I saw how fast my heart was beating. I hope the Protein shakes help you. I just found that I should be taking b12 and I haven't. Starting tomorrow I will try that and hopefully I can regain some energy. I have to go to work next week!?!?! If I feel anything like this I'm not going to make it and I'm running out of leave time... :-( I'm looking forward to being a motivational sleeved person after some time....just like some of the other people here...but it's sooo hard to be happy when you're miserable. I will pray for both of us!! It will get better. We can help each other through it. Blessings!
