I have a body builder friend (who also is a computer genius..lol) but he talks wayyy over my head with these things..just like he does computer jargon. Drives me nuts. So I couldn't figure out what to do. Thanks! I'm already making excuses not to go to spin class tonight..tell me to go people..LOL. I can make rice krispy treats after class..LOL. We have a xmas party at the YMCA on friday. Gonna be fun

    It's My Turn Now!!!

Well you do change. No if ands or butts about it. I'm wayyy more confident now. and yep I'm wayyy more pickier about who I date and have alot more higher standards which is a whole lot healthier. I'm still though the nice girl. I mean isn't that what all men want..fat girl nice in a skinny girls body? hehe. There's definitely a whole lot more men giving me attention and yeah it feels damn good to turn the ones down that I know I wouldn't have before. Might sound a bit bad on my part but you know what it isn't at all. I finding more decent "normal" men that are alot more healthier for me to date. Go me..lol

    December Exercise

I think a fill is gonna do you really good. Don't worry so much though about the plateaus. Hell I've had plenty of them. I think for some of us its all part of the process. It's just alot nicer if you don't have to go through them. I had one for six months! But my point is..I'm still at darn near 100 pounds. Losing weight is really a journey. Your probably going to be like me and come to a point that you really want to succeed and start looking into your nutrition and exercise more in detail to maximize your performance. You're going to get there girl. Just stay focused. It's really hard in December anyways no matter what. It'll be a whole lot easier when the rest of the world goes into a panic in January and everyone is on the weight loss band wagon. Although I'm not gonna be happy at the YMCA. Although by February most will be gone..LOL. Anyways..cheer up..you'll be just fine. Di
  9. So I have a friend who's been researching like mad about nutrition and he's been working out and following more of a body building nutitrional plan and has been really successful with it in a short amount of time. My question is has any other bandsters been trying to follow a plan like this? I'm doing more research about it. Looking up articles on bodybuilder.com and trying to figure out what i should be doing..and what I CAN do. Alot of the diets include alot of meat throughout the day. Well chicken just won't work at 10am..lol. Anyways..just wondered if anyone has changed their eating and exercise habits and been successful with it. I just feel like right now I'm in la la land about what I'm suppose to eat and it's working against me big time. I mean how can I work out 5 days a week and actually gain 3 pounds?..Also it seems I'm focused too much on cardio and I need to do more high intensity interval training or (HIIT). Apparently also I can eat the wrong things before or after a workout that can almost eliminate all the work I have done. Just wondered if anyone has taken it to the next level so to speak?

    Best surgeon ever

Wow..people just shouldn't be allowed to advertise doctors here period. This is just ridiculous how out of control this is now. When I got banded none of this happened because there were so few doctors doing it they didn't have to advertise or try to lure people in. Now you have people doing this kind of stuff. Best surgeon ever? Now are you really sure about this? *rolls eyes*

    Drinking and the band

Here is why alcohol is really bad when your trying to loose weight. The body uses alcohol as fuel first, and only after all the alcohol is used up does it obtain energy from your fat stores. So basically drinking is stalling your fat-burning process. I got this info directly from "the complete idiot's guide to Glycemic Index Weight Loss". Seems right to me.

    so fed up with chewing

I think alot of us have done the spitting out thing. Sometimes I just take too big of a bite and know I'll be in trouble if I swallow it. Down the road you'll start to forget what it was like pre-band. Band life know just seems so normal to me. It's almost 5 years now. Amazing how fast it goes by. Anyways..what I'm trying to say is eventually you'll get used to it and you'll be so happy with the new you, you won't miss the past at all. BTW I don't blend anything up. That does sound horrid. Just takes smaller bites. Not so much chewing then.. Something i do is cut up all my food before I even start to eat it. Then I won't screw up and take too big of bite when I'm not thinking.

    December Exercise

Well it's about even for me. I was spending alot of money on convenience foods. Those 100 calorie packs are not cheap. Man I was stocked! I didn't realize how bad they were for me. Ugh..

    It's My Turn Now!!!

Welcome Angels! Yes I can tell you definitely will have the motivation to get this through. I am definitely the same body type as you. Was born big..9lbs 4 and never looked back. I don't even remember weighing 100 pounds as a kid..lol. Anyways..I was at 314 at the time of surgery and although it's taken a long time for me to loose 100 pounds it certainly doesn't have to for you. With diabetes too it's even more vital you get control of this as soon as you can. Anyways welcome again. Ask as many questions as you want. Research, research, research. There's ALOT to know about band surgery before being banded. Take care girl..we are with you. Di
  15. I also have a 6 year old that I was worried would get the "fat" gene. Anyways the band and having a healthier lifestyle has made a huge impact on her positively. She even is my little motivator now "Mommm, you know you have to go to the YMCA and exercise"...yes she says this..hehe..so cute Anyways as far as the OP was saying about things she wished she knew. Well yeah it's ridiculous that you were not given any information at all. Also no psych evaluation? That's a really bad practice there. Although I still think it's party the OP's responsibility to do their own research on such a risky and life changing event in their lives. I think just about everyone though is an overeater before their band. If they weren't then they wouldn't have a weight problem right? I was definitely a volume eater pre band. That has completely changed. Although I did go a time where I grazed alot..and I platued for a very long time. The light bulb finally went off and I have put the pieces together a long the way to figure out what I need to do to get to my goals. Anyways as far as overeating. I can even PB on ice cream. I don't know if anyone else has done this but I sure have. Of course the band isn't perfect. But for most of us it keeps us in check with our binge eating. Honestly though it sounds like the OP might need a fill. I've had alot of people around me get banded after I did. I am sort of a billboard I guess. A few have not been successful just because they refuse to get their bands filled properly. You can't expect the tool to work correctly unless you get it to where it needs to be.

    Spinning class?

I'd love to know this too JM.. Ohh in my spin class last night there was one girl that purchased actual spin shoes. I didn't even know they existed. They actually lock into the peddles. Seems sooo cool. I hate the straps on your feet. They hurt my feet at times. Oh another thing. Last night we must have did about 50 push ups also on the bike. I mean who expects to actually have your arms hurting the next day from spin class.

    December Exercise

Thanks so much for your info! Yeah it is overwelming just how much information is out there and how much conflicts. What I am doing is just figuring out the majority wins. Whatever I keep on seeing over and over I'm going to accept as the truth. You are going to have to eat more or your going to loose that muscle. There is just no way around it. I know it seems so weird and odd to actually be eating! But you are doing the right thing. Just make sure you aren't overtraining. I see that alot at bodybuilder.com. You gotta give your body time to recover or something. Thanks so much too for the before and after work out stuff. I'm still really confused with this part. I want to maximize my efforts with my workouts so I wanna figure out exactly what I should be eating before and after. Heck the one guy I was reading up on said to even sip on some kind of drink as your working out. I can't remember what though.

    December Exercise

Hi guys! I'm back I did spin class tonight..finally. Ankle felt a bit better although not 100%. I really needed that. Also did my 100 crunches before hand. Steph your an inspiration. I too am doing alot of researching right now. Questions about your supplements. Do you take fish oil at all? I have the pills but I can't get them down. They are huge. Wondering if you found any smaller ones? Also about Protein. I have heard now that your body can only absorb about 25 grams of protein at a time. Have you heard that at all? I have my Isopure protein mix at 50 grams a shake so kind of silly if I'm not getting all of that. I've also been doing alot of reasearch on nutrition. I have a book on the glycemic index. Anyone hear about this? I'm finding it facinating and making alot of logical sense to me. The basic idea is figuring out how fast food is absorbed and stored as fat into your body. Pretty much the softer the food..the easier its absorbed and the higher the glycemic index load. Basically its how high your blood sugar goes with each food. It's the diet that most diabetics are on. Anyways I'm rambling too..and I know this thread is about exercise not nutrition. I'm just excited!

    Calories? Carbs?

I'm sticking with whole foods. It's not easy I tell ya. I can have a few cheat meals a week. Anyways I don't really have to count calories or carbs. Mostly what I eat is protein, veggies and fruit anyways. You can really eat as many fruits and veggies you want and your not going to gain weight (that's without salad dressing or dip mind u..lol) Anyways, good luck. If your really interested in tracking yourself I heard the bodybugg is great. Also there's some online sites for free I think one is FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal. I did that a long time ago. Seemed pretty easy.
  20. Oh I didn't mean at all to say that you lost a boatload of muscle. I can really tell you have done your fair share of strength training. I just see so many people completely focused on cardio. Although yes we do have to have this in our workouts..it shouldn't be anymore then half of what we are doing.

    December Exercise

Good to see everyone is staying so active I on the other hand have taken some time off. My ankle is just too bad to risk exercise right now. I can't see a doc till next week because of money so I'm stuck for awhile. But it's okay I tell myself. Just a bump in the road. Although secretly I'm a bit panicked about not exercising. Anyways..I'm hoping to get some exercise bands for xmas and some dumb bells so I can start strength training in the mornings a bit when my kid is still asleep. Pleaseee Santa!..lol

    November Exercise!

You guys!..It's December 6..start posting in the december thread sillies!
  23. This is true. But the problem is your also loosing a boat load of muscle along the way. Which is what I don't want to do. People think as long as the scale goes down..thats all that matters. But that is far from the truth. Btw you look great. I'm glad your plan has worked for you.
  24. Thanks so much for your advice. This is what I've been reading alot of in my research. So it feels good for someone else to be doing the same thing. Although I'm scared to death of the free weight room. I'm gonna have to be a brave girl and just do it. Make way men!

    Walmart

Thanks for the quote. Yes healthcare in this country is a bit crazy. I mean I work for a large company in the health care industry and my insurance for myself and my child run about 200 a month. So yeah...it's a huge chunk out of my wallet too. I mean Walmart doesn't even have to offer health care at all I believe. It's a benefit. Benefits are there to attract employees. People act like its a right or something. I don't know. I mean everyone deserves to be taken care of. But I don't know if it's the responsibility of the company per say. But something needs to be done thats for sure. This issue isn't just one issue thats for sure. It's a multitude of issues.
