  1. Vampsy, I'm 8 days out and feel SO much better than I did at day 4 & 5. It truly seems to magically get better every 24 hours. Hang in there u will see. I still get tired by the end of the day but def have more energy and stamina and hardly any more pain in my chest when I eat/drink. My an area still gets a lil sore after I walk a good 20 min but I think that's understandable & my cue to take it easy awhile. But believe me u r going to feel better & better every day!

    Help Please

chigga77....SO glad it wasn't anything more. thank you for posting an update - was thinking about you & hoping all was well for you. question - had you been constipated before or had you been taking any type of laxative?
  3. Dang!!! 6 miles!? Im afraid to strain my self for fear of a leak or opening an incision! Up until day of surgery 2/13 I did daily 30 min workouts on elliptical but i seriously am holding back purposely. Maybe I should be walking more!? That's ok?
  4. Awesome info and some great ideas! Hang tough!! Just think what we'll be saying in a couple months!! This will all be a distant memory (or if ur like me, a blocked memory!!). Quick question - what is Protein Jello? I've got to find a way to get in some more protein! And - u sound like me - wanting to overdo it on the walks and things! Take it easy & break'm up into (2) 20 minute walks so u don't hurt yourself! I find this super reduced calorie & intake won't let me do more than 20-30 w/o wearing out. And I cannot wait to get back on my elliptical in a couple mths!! Take care!! P.S. same on the weight loss, I don't think ive lost but a few #'s, maybe 3? I haven't weighed yet. But I know a) there's swelling still and I'm healing so not to worried. (yet!! Haha)
  5. Would anyone happen to have the shakes doc that was mentioned earlier in this post? I can't get the link to work -- pls reply if so and I can send u an email addy!! Thank u! Needing some variety big time!
  6. So I was sleeved on 2/13, went well and was home the next day not in 'horrible' pain. Still am not in 'horrible' pain other than when I try to sip much or take in some yogurt. Which I feel like I have to do as I'm not eating anything really and know I've got to get in some calories and protein and fluids...but it feels so uncomfortable everytime I do. Not to mention I'm really sick o'protein drinks and plain yogurt (since the liquids only stage prior to surgery). I think I've hit the post-op day of "buyers remorse" because it feels like I'm not seeing any benefit yet am not able to eat ANYTHING good nor get around very quickly yet. It actually feels kind of depressing, like "what have I done to myself?" PLEASE tell me if you felt this way a week or two out and if it got better. Will I EVER be able to eat normal again? Man how I love mexican food. Even just a couple bites some day? I feel like crap today - seem to get real achy now and then all over (from my neck on down) like you've got the flu. But my temp is normal. So why the achies? I went for a 15 min walk today - very slow going but at least got outdoors and did it. Just not sure at this moment if I made the right decision with this permanent life-changer....
  7. ALL - I can't thank you enough for all of the great encouragement and words of wisdom!!!!!! Yesterday was a TOUGH day for me!! Total pity party!! But today I feel much better mentally and a little better physically... the soreness seems to be getting a little better each day. And I'm finding a couple new 'liquids' that seem to taste good (cream o'chick soup mixed with chick broth...someone else had posted this. can only do about 1/4 a cup but mmm is it delicious!) Just got back from about a 10 min walk, was fairly winded but it was good to move. One day at a time............... THANK YOU for all the super posts yesterday. Hopefully those days are few and far between. :-) Best wishes to all.
  8. Michelle, YES I know the feeling. I can only have about 3-4 tsp of plain fat free yogurt over an hr time span and even that makes me hurt. It feels like when I was pregnant and ate too much and there would be a ton of pressure up on your rib cage. Not comfortable at all. I was sleeved on the 13th so if you were on the 8th that tells me it'll be a few weeks before that discomfort goes away (when the swelling goes down hopefully). ugh
  9. So while I love my dr and team, and have been recovering quite well, (am on day 3) I keep wondering 'how will I know if I have a leak?'. A leak is my big fear. My dr says he's never once had a leak. That is great to hear, but how do I get reassured and what do I watch for in case there IS a small leak? Other than feeling a bit achy (flu-like) and a bit of low grade temp. I feel like I'm right I'm schedule. Thoughts??
  10. Thanks all. Just got a return call from the dr and they said he does chk for leaks b4 he ever finishes up the surgery. That along with my temp being normal (had to send someone out to grab me a thermometer!) I feel much less anxious now! Thanks for the input! I think the achiness I feel now is just normal recovery period. Resting and walking and sipping!!!!!! :-)
  11. Wow...I'm not quite sure what to think! I go back next week for my 1 week checkup. Do u suppose it's too late by then to chk? As in I'd already be showing signs of problems b4 then? I really feel fine other than a bit of flu-Iike feeling. Am able to get my water and broth in.
  12. Monalisa1010. I, like you, have been having a seemingly easy recovery. Yes I have bad dry mouth and yes it hurts like <bleep> to get in & out of bed... So I just use our recliner. Much more comfortable. But I'm a lil afraid of the leak possibility too. Have somewhat felt this am like I have the flu -- body aches all over ( not just the abdominal area) and feels like a low grade temp. My brother went out to get me a working thermometer so I can chk it. Trying to think positive!!!!!
  13. Okay I am past the emotional roller-coaster and ready to go. Have to be at the hospital at 8am tomorrow & surgery is to be at 10am....ready!!! I can't believe after the ups & downs of deciding and the fear of the unknown, I'm here! Just feet from the loser's bench!!! (okay maybe a few miles from it but it's in sight!!!!!!!) *WOOT* *WOOT* Praying for a Valentine's miracle! Anyone else out there going on the same day - - GOOD LUCK & PRAYERS to you and stay hydrated!! & rest/walk/rest/walk :-) Everyone on here has been SO informative and I hope I do as well as you all!!!
  14. So sorry u r in so much pain! I just got home too!! Surgery was yesterday 2/13...I don't know if I anticipated it being much worse, but other than getting in/outa bed I'm not feeling too bad! Granted I'm on liquid loritab right now but most of the day at hospital I wasn't even using the morphine drip either!! They started that & Cather right after surgery. And ice chips was all I was allowed til breakfast this am and then they gave me chick broth (had about a tsp every few minutes) it was delicious!! And a lil s/f jello that was delic!! Over the next few hrs after that I sipped on H2O and did great. My only trouble b4 they'd let me leave was being able to urinate. Not sure if the catheter or anesthesia made it hard to urinate but finally I was able to a little and bam I was discharged!!!! That function is getting easier each time. I have 4 small incision spots on my abs plus the spot where the drainage tube was. They explained something about the extra incisions allows dr to reduce the amount of gas leftover in the end which is fine with me cuz I've had no gas at all!!? Knock on wood!! I wouldn't think gas would all of the sudden kick in on day 3 or day 4?? Hope not!! Overall feeling really good!!!! Drinking a strawberry short cake flavored protein drink for dinner this eve. 27 gr protein! Nice & slow!' Wishing u the best!!!!! My kids had flowers and signs around the house when I got home!!! P.S. the other surprising thing for me was/is the dry mouth. That c/b the morphine or just lack of liquid the first 2 hrs. But darn thats been hard!! Sound like a frog when I talk!!!!
  15. I definitely got lots of sleep! Thin i slept thru the vitals! Have had a morphine drip and catheter since I left surgery room yesterday at 11:30am. Also had an IV to keep fluids in me. And an ear patch on since b4 surgery so have felt really good!! Hoping to get released early afternoon!!! And they'll give me a liquid breakfast which will help The dryness in my moith!!
  16. Dang nurse doesn't have time to help me take a walk!! I thought that was Extremely important right after???? My only walk was at 4:20 and that's cuz I asked to. I've asked twice since 6:30 and no one "has time". "We'll try to at 10pm" ?? I thought that was very important? Instead they put the foot booties on (when i asked to take a walk) that pump ur circulation. Which means I can't get up & try on my own or I'll pop their lil booties!'. Am I wrong Should I Just chill?
  17. MuddySoles -- u will do fine! I Prayed right up Until I Went out and undone remember A Thing at all! U wake up (seems like no time) and U r done!!!!
  18. Update!!! Sitting here in my hospital room 8 hrs post-op. can't type That well due to the wonderful morphine!! Did Get up and walk the Halls about 4 minutes...more Of A Turtle pace. Sry typos. Actually doing quite well. Only serious pain is When I move, sit ap or deep breathe. My dr's plan is iv fluid since surgery and post I get An ice pellet every few minutes. Mouth is SO dry!!! Hoping to go home tomorrow Afternoon. Sry - eyes getting very tired! Will post an update tomorrow or next day if I can. Hope the anti-drama continues and I heal as planned. Hoping all you fellow 2/13 are feeling good too!!!!

    Preop Starts Tomorrow!

SAME (only mine was Diet Pepsi!) I know how much I loved it before, however took a SIP of one last nite for the first time in 5? days and it didn't even taste good. So sugary! (?? diet pepsi?) Anyhow - - brandymarie81, the first few days of the pre-op is hard but by day 3 or 4 I really wasn't hungry at all or craving anything...Which you kind of then have to remind yourself to keep drinking & getting in your Protein. Good luck!! Stick with it - you can do this!
  20. Question about the vomiting after....I too will likely be nervous about drinking too fast 'cuz I don't want to cause my body to reject whatever went down because I'm afraid of vomiting afterwards. Won't that strain the new sleeve too much? I don't want to strain it & CAUSE a leak. thoughts?
  21. THANK YOU Reddi4change! Your profile name says it all!! :-)
  22. Lilee84 - - you look GREAT!!!! Happy & enjoying life! 12 stinkin' miles!?!?!? That's amazing!!! Congrats! Keep it up! And I *love* Animal Kingdom....forgot about it 'tho....you may have just given me an idea for a fun trip in the hope-to-be-soon-near-future!!!!!
