  1. Thank you all for your response. Since I am feeling great, losing weight, and getting my required nutrients, I will continue with what seems to be working for me. I will keep trying different kinds of solid Protein. Low-fat string cheese sounds like a good idea to add to my lunch. I must become a little more adventurous. chicken and tuna will become boring after a while.

One reason I am being so cautious about what I eat is there are so many foods that were triggers in the past. Since bread has always been a weakness, why reintroduce it to my diet if I don't need it?

  2. My surgery was Feb. 25, 2013. So far I have lost over 30 lbs., but I have not had a fill yet. The first opportunity to have a fill, I opted out because I was losing steadily. This past week I visited the surgeon and he thought I should not have a fill, since I am still losing weight. He seemed concerned that I wasn't eating enough.

I track everything I eat, keeping track of calories, fat, and Protein intake. I always have between 60-70 grams of Protein, and in the range of 800 calories, sometimes a little more, or less. I occasionally get hungry, but not regularly. I take Vitamins daily and Calcium supplements twice a day.

My Breakfast is usually 1/2 c. of fat-free cottage cheese, or an egg, soft boiled, or fried in pam, and apple sauce. For lunch I like 1/2 c. greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom (80 cal.). Sometimes I'll go out and have chicken salad, or 1/2 a chicken wrap. dinner is 1 1/4 ounce of solid protein, a vegetable, and fruit. If I need more protein, I have a Protein shake with skim milk. I like what I'm eating right now, but don't mind changing things up a little, especially if I need to. I live alone so I don't have to worry about cooking for someone else.

I'm gathering that the surgeon wants me to eat more, so my weight loss will slow down, giving reason to have a fill, to restrict my eating and increase weight loss again. He is wondering why I needed the band to do this, and all I can say is that I tried WW numerous times and was never able to get below 205, and I have broken through that barrier, finally.

So, what are the opinions? As long as I'm meeting my nutritional needs and not getting very hungry, should I be concerned? Any suggestions?

  3. On my post-op visit April 11, I decided to put off the first fill until my next visit in May. So far I've lost 31 lbs. without a fill, and no pre-surgery diet. My surgery was February 25, 2013. I feel great and not having trouble with food, I can tell when I've had enough, but I do get hungry late in the afternoon. I feel like I'm ready for that first fill. I'm also ready to buy some new clothes. Everything has gotten too baggy.

  4. This Wednesday, I had my two week doctor's visit. My incisions are healing well, and I've been allowed to go to sugar-free pureed food. "Mushy" sounds pretty unappetizing.

My first meal was heaven; 1/4 c. of tuna, mixed with light Mayonnaise, and pureed freshly cooked carrots. (I'm resisting baby food.) Everything tastes and smells so good, even the fat-free cottage cheese.

My bathroom scale says I'm down 19 lbs., on an empty stomach and without clothes. I weigh about 3 lbs. more at the doctor's with clothes and having eaten. I'm very pleased and can already tell a difference in my clothes.

I hope everyone is doing well and feeling good about this journey we've started out on. I'm sure there are bumps in the road but the scenery is beautiful.

  5. Have you been back to the doctor? He can help you figure out the problem and get you back on track.

I had a baby 7 months ago seems like ever since I haven't been right I can eat a whole sub from Jimmy John's or subway and still want a cookie after lol but really I'm tight but It doesn't feel right I think about food way to much yeah this sucks hope nothing major is wrong

Only down bout 50 pounds since surgery 2 years ago lost baby weight but didn't gain much threw that anyways

    Help help lol

  6. I was also surprised how tired I got so easily. I was sleeping late and taking a nap in the afternoon. Usually I'm up early and up late. It's going to be hard giving up my nap when I go back to work next week.

So far I haven't had a problem with hunger, but I also am missing textures. When I was in the grocery today I longed for something with crunch. Oh well. I can tough it out.

When you feel a sneeze coming on, try holding your stomach. It seems to help. Have you tried powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein? My doctor recommended it and it's not bad.

    Hang in there. Bonnie

I'm doing pretty well. Still surprised how quickly I get tired and sneezing hurts a bit but for he most part I'm only feeling minor discomfort. I have grown tired of most of my allowed foods textures and flavors but I'm not hungry so I have taken tiny bites of foods I will have to wait another week before I can eat; I practic chewing them to mush and spitting them out it helps. It's getting harder to get my protien though I'm just so tired of the taste of whey. There is a price to having refined taste buds.

  7. I hope everyone is doing well. Last week I thought I was doing well, so I gave up pain medication and started doing too much. Needless to say, I paid or it. Most of this week, I have rested and taken meds when I needed them. I am feeling good enough today, that I drove to the grocery by myself. When I went last weekend, a neighbor drove me and though it was a short trip, I was worn out. I also hate imposing on friends and neighbors.

  8. Okay, tomorrow will be an exciting day adding the Protein shakes. You should feel more satisfied. I made sugar-free Jello this afternoon and was surprised how much better it was than what I had in the hospital. Mine had more flavor and wasn't rubbery. Every day is an adventure.

not until tomorrow. Yesterday and today was clear liquids only so I've had some chicken broth and a New whey Protein Drink so far. I'll probably have some beef broth for dinner.

  9. I'm glad to hear that you're doing better. So far this morning, I haven't had any pain medication, and I'm down to minor aches, here and there. Everything is getting easier to do, especially hooking the leash on my dog for our walks.

    Good luck.

Late last night I was able to pass gas and this morning the shoulder pain is pretty much gone. I can walk briskly around the house for about 6 min.s before my abdomen starts complaining. I'm going to try and do that every 2 hrs at least since it is also supposed to help keep the back and shoulder pain at bay.

  10. Frederic, how is your back doing?

I just got banded this morning and thought I was going to be one of the lucky few with no shoulder or back pain since my post surgery was going so well but a few hours after getting home I was taking the pain meds not because of stomach pain but because the stomach pain made the shoulder pain so bad.

  11. Thanks Grateful mama. I'll have to look up Health Wise. I'm not bored yet, but I'm sure it will happen. My nightmares are of pureed meat. Just the thought is scary.

The coffe flavored shake was a proticcino instant drink from Health Wise. I got all my shakes from my weight loss clinic and the brand they have is Health Wise. Because I just started, I haven't gotten into trying other brands or recipes.

  12. Congratulations on your banding, and thanks for your ideas on making Protein shakes interesting. I know that going by the package directions will get boring fast. I bought a can of the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Vanilla and Unjury Classic chocolate. Right now, they are tolerable. I will try nutmeg at noon...one of my favorites.

Congrats to all! I was banded on 2/19 and I'm really loving my shakes. I've been experimenting so I'll share some ideas with you. It gets boring quick!

I use the EAS 100% Whey Protein Powder.

I mix it with Blue Diamond brand, unsweetened almond and coconut milk( it is found in the dairy section and it is DELISH!)

I make a vanilla one and add a few tablespoons of frozen orange juice mix to make a creamsicle.

I make a chocolate one and add two teaspoons of sugar-free Jello pudding powder( cheesecake flavor or white chocolate.)

I also make one with a cold cup of Decaf coffee, one scoop of vanilla powder and one scoop of chocolate.

I always grind some fresh nutmeg( from the actual nut) into all of my shakes.

Also, adding some banana extract or any flavor pure extract helps!

I bought one of those "blender cups" that has a round, whisk-like ball in it so I rarely use my blender.

    Good Luck and Happy Banding!

  13. How did you make the coffee shake? I just have vanilla and chocolate so far.

I've been taking Hydrocodone-Acetaminophen. It is disgusting but it helps. I'm taking it 3 times a day also. The hospital wasn't pushing meds so much, but my first night I thought I'd have to beat up the nurse for pain meds. It was midnight before I got anything and I knew I'd never sleep like that. By the morning, I was feeling great and ready to escape.

I agree that it would be fun to check in with each other, to watch our progress and give each other support. Have a good night.

  14. Grateful mama, congratulations. I started Protein shakes this morning. They could be worse. My stomach has been doing some growling but I'm ignoring it. I haven't felt hungry with all the liquids I've been drinking.

I was trying to avoid taking pain meds but decided that if I hurt, it makes no sense to suffer through it. The back pain can't last too much longer.

Let me know how you're doing, when you get a chance.

    Bonnie

  15. Congratulations Heidi. From what I understand it is normal to have some back pain. If you are able to pass gas, it should start getting better. Walking will help. It takes a few days to get things moving again.

Let me know how you're doing in the next day or so. Good luck.

    Bonnie
