Bread has always been one of my trigger foods, also, especially homemade. I have no trouble eating whole wheat, toasted, but since I've been banded, I've had maybe 3 pieces of bread. I've not tried Pasta at all. Right now I'm not missing it.

Am I Doing Something Wrong?

That's a nice lose Chrissy. I hope you do well with the fill. My favorite saying is "Mind over mouth." -
Going on 3 months now, I hope everyone is feeling great and losing weight. I've added exercise to my days, and my knees aren't complaining anymore. That was a big worry, the possibility of knee surgery down the road. My clothes are getting too large and I will have to break down and buy new pants soon. I am looking forward to shopping in my skinny closet. Last week I tried on jeans that were a size down from what I had been wearing. I was able to zip and fasten them, but breathing was not comfortable, so I'll try them again in another week or two. There's so much to look forward to.

I am curious, have you not needed a fill yet? My surgeon did not recommend a fill when I was there on Thursday. So far, I've lost 38 lbs, with no fill. He did say that I may have alread had 1cc to begin with, and offered to remove it. No way I was going to let him take anything away. He does want me to try to eat more Protein, but my nutrients are good, and I feel great.

I've eaten fast food twice since I've been banded (2/25/13). Both times, I checked the nutritional listings before I went and decided what I would be comfortable eating. This past Friday I had McD's 6 pc. chicken nuggets...not bad. That same day I was told that Chick-fil-a has grilled chicken nuggets, without breading...even better. I don't like getting caught not knowing what my options are.

Thank you all for your response. Since I am feeling great, losing weight, and getting my required nutrients, I will continue with what seems to be working for me. I will keep trying different kinds of solid Protein. Low-fat string cheese sounds like a good idea to add to my lunch. I must become a little more adventurous. chicken and tuna will become boring after a while. One reason I am being so cautious about what I eat is there are so many foods that were triggers in the past. Since bread has always been a weakness, why reintroduce it to my diet if I don't need it? -
Talk over your worries with your doctor. I had surgery on Feb. 25, and haven't had a fill yet. On my last visit with the doctor, we decided I was doing well with out one. I will have a fill on my next visit. My loss is slowing down now, but I'm still pleased with my progress. If you do have the fill, I'm sure you will be fine. Good luck tomorrow and try not to worry.

On my post-op visit April 11, I decided to put off the first fill until my next visit in May. So far I've lost 31 lbs. without a fill, and no pre-surgery diet. My surgery was February 25, 2013. I feel great and not having trouble with food, I can tell when I've had enough, but I do get hungry late in the afternoon. I feel like I'm ready for that first fill. I'm also ready to buy some new clothes. Everything has gotten too baggy.

This Wednesday, I had my two week doctor's visit. My incisions are healing well, and I've been allowed to go to sugar-free pureed food. "Mushy" sounds pretty unappetizing. My first meal was heaven; 1/4 c. of tuna, mixed with light mayonnaise, and pureed freshly cooked carrots. (I'm resisting baby food.) Everything tastes and smells so good, even the fat-free cottage cheese. My bathroom scale says I'm down 19 lbs., on an empty stomach and without clothes. I weigh about 3 lbs. more at the doctor's with clothes and having eaten. I'm very pleased and can already tell a difference in my clothes. I hope everyone is doing well and feeling good about this journey we've started out on. I'm sure there are bumps in the road but the scenery is beautiful.

You can order them in single packets online, instead of the can, which is 17 servings. My hospital gift shop also carries Unjury, so you might try yours. If I understand correctly, every time you get a fill, you have to go back to a liquid diet for a short time, so it won't go to waste. Good luck.

Have you been back to the doctor? He can help you figure out the problem and get you back on track.
-
Even on a Sat., there should be someone answering in case of emergencies. Good luck.

I'm on day 11 and I was starting to get jealous of the dog because he can go like clockwork. I wanted to celebrate, finally today, I had a movement. What a relief. lol. I never thought I would discuss this with anyone.

I was also surprised how tired I got so easily. I was sleeping late and taking a nap in the afternoon. Usually I'm up early and up late. It's going to be hard giving up my nap when I go back to work next week. So far I haven't had a problem with hunger, but I also am missing textures. When I was in the grocery today I longed for something with crunch. Oh well. I can tough it out. When you feel a sneeze coming on, try holding your stomach. It seems to help. Have you tried unjury Protein? My doctor recommended it and it's not bad. Hang in there. Bonnie

Patience...Band requires much patience especially at the start of it all
Bjc1227 commented on Jim1967's blog entry in Jim1967's Blog
Thank you, Jim. Well written. I am 11 days post-op and have been checking the scale every day. I can't complain. It's going in the right direction. Every day I feel better and have more energy. I know with work and patience, I can do this. -
I hope everyone is doing well. Last week I thought I was doing well, so I gave up pain medication and started doing too much. Needless to say, I paid or it. Most of this week, I have rested and taken meds when I needed them. I am feeling good enough today, that I drove to the grocery by myself. When I went last weekend, a neighbor drove me and though it was a short trip, I was worn out. I also hate imposing on friends and neighbors.

Okay, tomorrow will be an exciting day adding the Protein shakes. You should feel more satisfied. I made sugar-free Jello this afternoon and was surprised how much better it was than what I had in the hospital. Mine had more flavor and wasn't rubbery. Every day is an adventure.

I'm glad to hear you're doing better. I didn't know about Gas-X strips. Are you on Protein shakes now?
-
Congratulations on your banding. I'm glad to hear you're feeling well. If you're able, I'd love to hear from you on your progress. We're all on this journey together.
-
Thanks for your encouragement. You have done really well.
-
I'm glad to hear that you're doing better. So far this morning, I haven't had any pain medication, and I'm down to minor aches, here and there. Everything is getting easier to do, especially hooking the leash on my dog for our walks. Good luck.

Frederic, how is your back doing?
-
Thanks Grateful mama. I'll have to look up Health Wise. I'm not bored yet, but I'm sure it will happen. My nightmares are of pureed meat. Just the thought is scary.

Congratulations on your banding, and thanks for your ideas on making Protein shakes interesting. I know that going by the package directions will get boring fast. I bought a can of the unjury Vanilla and Unjury Classic chocolate. Right now, they are tolerable. I will try nutmeg at noon...one of my favorites.
