  1. Hey there. You have made a great decision! I just had the band put in less than a week ago and I have been loosing weight every single day. I can't believe how fast it is happening- it makes sense though, considering I used to live on Pasta and bread and cheese. Now I'm just having liquids and some mushies...since surgery I've lost 11 pounds! You won't regret doing this, good luck and ask me any questions you'd like!

  2. My surgeon told me to come in a week after surgery. So I am going to see him on Tuesday of next week which I am glad about. And as far as my scars go, they look really good and they didn't put bandages on them, they put this large over-wrap thing over me to keep everything tight, and told me to leave it on for 2 weeks ..although I can take it off and shower.

  3. I just got banded Wednesday...and the first night I spent in the hospital was very sore. They forced me to get up and walk to help with the gas pains...the gas pains went away quickly though...I never even had the shoulder pain! Now I'm home and just hungry. I have to move very slow though to get up and down. Just take it day by day...it just keeps getting better...until then though...I am on the pain meds day and night..

  4. I have medicaid and my surgeon said that they might try to fight me staying overnight but he requires it...and said I will be. I am very glad about that because I do not feel comfortable having surgery like that and just rushing home asap. I want to be there in case there are any issues. My surgeon said he feels more comfortable having me stay as well...makes me glad that he is so caring and thorough. I love him, he is so sweet!

  5. ALL exercise DVD's work- you just have to stick with them and do them 4-7 days a week! I don't like Zumba because I can't keep up with the dance moves...its too fast pace for me but if you love to do dance then I'm sure its for you. You just need to find your favorite one. I do Walk Away the Pounds and that's perfect for me! I haven't even had surgery yet and I've lost all kinds of weight from it...and my body has firmed and toned soo much, I get compliments from EVERYBODY and I still haven't had the band! Next week though!!! :)

  6. For those of you who don't exercise at ALL- no offense but I just don't understand how you can do that. You are loosing this weight, don't you want to tone your body? Aren't you afraid of loose skin? I don't get why you wouldn't want to just move move move it makes you feel soo much better! I haven't even had the surgery yet and I feel amazing. I could not imagine getting into this without the mindset that I have right now and I owe it all to exercising. Seriously!

  7. Hi! My surgery is next week....February 8th...and for the past 4 months I have been doing Walk Away The Pounds with Leslie Sansone and a few other work out DVD's like Jilian Micheals, and Brazil Butt Lift. Mostly I do Walk Away The Pounds though and I love it. I have lost just about 30 pounds doing either 2-5 miles every day. It really motivated me a lot, since I didn't exercise at ALL before this. I look forward to it now, because I feel great during and afterwards. For beginning, this is really perfect...the 1 mile walk would be perfect for you...and its not just walking in place, you do all sorts of other movements...you can look her up on youtube and see for yourself!

  8. I hate zumba. For somebody who can't dance its an awful awful workout. I could not keep up with the moves for one second...I don't understand how all of you big people do it. And I'm not talking about how much you break a sweat, I'm talking about learning the dance moves themselves. I could not do ONE of those moves from the beginning dvd! For me, I get wayy better work outs from Walk Away The Pounds, Brazil Butt Lift and Jillian Michaels. I need an actual work out...not dancing...but hey that's just my preference....so if you're like me and don't like dancing then its NOT for you trust me.

  9. I talked to my doctor about this today and he basically just said if it happens from something other than food getting stuck, that it should be fine and that if they had to they would unfill...you just need to tell your doctor right away of your concern and he will probably give you something...or tell you what to do. I was worried about this as well! Last thing I want is to have the band in me and get violently ill and have my band slip! He assured me its something that rarely happens though.

  10. Mis73...Where are you from? I'm in Connecticut and was told over a year ago that my insurance would cover it (medicaid) and then started the 6 month process, have finished everything possible ...even the pre op physical is done. And Medicaid approved me a couple of weeks ago. I have a surgery date on February 8th...so what are you talking about? Is it a different state that doesn't cover it now?

  11. To the poster- What if you tried really hard to exercise? You might be able to tone your body up at least some what! That's what I'm hoping to do. My mom ended up with the same thing as all of you ladies, but she hates it. She wants to have plastic surgery so bad to fix it but she cannot afford it. Its been 11 years since she had gastric bypass and lost over 100 pounds and has wanted to fix it ever since. She didn't exercise much though so I think that was her problem! She might have been able to prevent it!

  12. I agree Honk. I think that as long as you get a solid week in of this diet then you should be fine. You will loose a few pounds plus shrink your liver...but if you pig out the whole time you may not get it. My surgeon told me about this one patient who said he did the diet and went under, got cut open and the doctor saw that his liver was swollen! It was so big that it was difficult for him to work in there, so he felt uncomfortable continuing with the surgery and sewed him back up, WITHOUT the band. Can you imagine? Now he has to start all over again with the entire process, and I don't even think he'll be covered through his insurance again because that was his fault for not following directions. I don't know if they are just telling us this to scare us into doing the diet, but all I know is I don't want to take any chances. So, you really do need to eat a lot less to get that liver shrunk so that doctor has room to preform the surgery.

  13. Horsegirl- that is terrible! I fall asleep anytime anywhere which is why it was very easy for me to get mine done...but I told my sleep center ahead of time that look I don't go to sleep at normal hours....like you I stay up all night...so they set me up to arrive at 11pm and by the time they hooked me up to everything I was in bed by midnight I think or later..it was annoying with all those things stuck on me which is why it took a little longer to fall asleep but I did eventually. They should have worked with you! They knew I woke up late too so they told me that I could get up when I wanted to. I wasn't forced to wake up. 5am? That's not right. At least you got it straightened out though....but it was a good thing I got it done. I found out that not only did I have sleep apnea but that I stopped breathing 70 times an hour. This is why I was falling asleep all the time- always groggy all day no matter how much sleep I got. Never any energy. Because I wasn't actually sleeping! Since I started my APAP machine (little different than CPAP) I now only stop breathing 3 times an hour. That's really amazing! I am starting to feel a lot better too!

  14. Janders, do you mean they don't cover the dietition? Cuz that is normal. Most don't. Mine did not ...so I had to self pay for those appointments but it really wasn't too bad. I mean, I work at a gas station and I was able to swing it. But everything else was covered so it worked out okay!
