The Truth About Medicaid And Weight Loss Surgery

Mis73 I thought u said in another post that Medicaid wasn't covering it anymore? Now you HAVE Medicare? Hmmmm....anyway, I have Medicaid and live in Connecticut and I had to do the 6 month weigh ins ....all in all everything took me almost a year...I had to do many many tests as well. Dietitian wasn't covered though I had to pay for that. It took less than a week for me to get approved...and I'm now scheduled for February 8th!! But I am glad that it took as long as it did, because it gave me more time to think about this and research and now I'm more ready than I ever was...and have been exercising and lost weight too! !

    Tips For Starting Exercise

Hi! My surgery is next week....February 8th...and for the past 4 months I have been doing Walk Away The Pounds with Leslie Sansone and a few other work out DVD's like Jilian Micheals, and Brazil Butt Lift. Mostly I do Walk Away The Pounds though and I love it. I have lost just about 30 pounds doing either 2-5 miles every day. It really motivated me a lot, since I didn't exercise at ALL before this. I look forward to it now, because I feel great during and afterwards. For beginning, this is really perfect...the 1 mile walk would be perfect for you...and its not just walking in place, you do all sorts of other movements...you can look her up on youtube and see for yourself!

    So Frustrated...

Omg thank you Mr. Green for your response. ...I can't even believe someone would be able to do that ...I thought it was physically impossible....now it makes a little more sense as to why people say they don't like the band or it didn't work for them...because they don't do it right.

    So Frustrated...

But has any of you messed up and actually ate regular food after surgery? Or is it impossible? I would be terrified to mess anything up...But I just want to know if anyone has done that!!

    Zumba And Lapband

I hate zumba. For somebody who can't dance its an awful awful workout. I could not keep up with the moves for one second...I don't understand how all of you big people do it. And I'm not talking about how much you break a sweat, I'm talking about learning the dance moves themselves. I could not do ONE of those moves from the beginning dvd! For me, I get wayy better work outs from Walk Away The Pounds, Brazil Butt Lift and Jillian Michaels. I need an actual work out...not dancing...but hey that's just my preference....so if you're like me and don't like dancing then its NOT for you trust me.

Who Has Survived The Stomach Flu?

I talked to my doctor about this today and he basically just said if it happens from something other than food getting stuck, that it should be fine and that if they had to they would unfill...you just need to tell your doctor right away of your concern and he will probably give you something...or tell you what to do. I was worried about this as well! Last thing I want is to have the band in me and get violently ill and have my band slip! He assured me its something that rarely happens though.

    Access Denied

Yeah Mck xx...that's what I thought! I'm having surgery in a little over 2 weeks and I would know if Medicaid was not going to cover it! Where did you hear that from Mis73? Because unfortunately, your wrong.

    Omg I Am Itching

Brown Kameleon is right...the pain meds make certain people itch like crazy!

    Access Denied

Mis73...Where are you from? I'm in Connecticut and was told over a year ago that my insurance would cover it (medicaid) and then started the 6 month process, have finished everything possible ...even the pre op physical is done. And Medicaid approved me a couple of weeks ago. I have a surgery date on February 8th...so what are you talking about? Is it a different state that doesn't cover it now?

    "old Lady" Thighs

To the poster- What if you tried really hard to exercise? You might be able to tone your body up at least some what! That's what I'm hoping to do. My mom ended up with the same thing as all of you ladies, but she hates it. She wants to have plastic surgery so bad to fix it but she cannot afford it. Its been 11 years since she had gastric bypass and lost over 100 pounds and has wanted to fix it ever since. She didn't exercise much though so I think that was her problem! She might have been able to prevent it!
  12. I agree Honk. I think that as long as you get a solid week in of this diet then you should be fine. You will loose a few pounds plus shrink your liver...but if you pig out the whole time you may not get it. My surgeon told me about this one patient who said he did the diet and went under, got cut open and the doctor saw that his liver was swollen! It was so big that it was difficult for him to work in there, so he felt uncomfortable continuing with the surgery and sewed him back up, WITHOUT the band. Can you imagine? Now he has to start all over again with the entire process, and I don't even think he'll be covered through his insurance again because that was his fault for not following directions. I don't know if they are just telling us this to scare us into doing the diet, but all I know is I don't want to take any chances. So, you really do need to eat a lot less to get that liver shrunk so that doctor has room to preform the surgery.

    Failing Home Sleep Study

Horsegirl- that is terrible! I fall asleep anytime anywhere which is why it was very easy for me to get mine done...but I told my sleep center ahead of time that look I don't go to sleep at normal hours....like you I stay up all night...so they set me up to arrive at 11pm and by the time they hooked me up to everything I was in bed by midnight I think or later..it was annoying with all those things stuck on me which is why it took a little longer to fall asleep but I did eventually. They should have worked with you! They knew I woke up late too so they told me that I could get up when I wanted to. I wasn't forced to wake up. 5am? That's not right. At least you got it straightened out though....but it was a good thing I got it done. I found out that not only did I have sleep apnea but that I stopped breathing 70 times an hour. This is why I was falling asleep all the time- always groggy all day no matter how much sleep I got. Never any energy. Because I wasn't actually sleeping! Since I started my APAP machine (little different than CPAP) I now only stop breathing 3 times an hour. That's really amazing! I am starting to feel a lot better too!

    Cigna Approved Surgery!

Janders, do you mean they don't cover the dietition? Cuz that is normal. Most don't. Mine did not ...so I had to self pay for those appointments but it really wasn't too bad. I mean, I work at a gas station and I was able to swing it. But everything else was covered so it worked out okay!
  16. You are truely amazing and such a great spirited person. I loved reading your success story! I am going to aim to be just as successful as you are! Thanks for taking the time to tell us

    Insurance Question

It depends on the doctor. My doctor told me I had to loose 50 pounds until they would consider giving me surgery. I ended up loosing almost 30 and I have a surgery date now. Some just want to see that you can do it ...because of what the follow up entails. But others on here don't have to loose anything! I've heard of ppl having to loose a lot, a little (like 5 pounds) or none at all! So you will have to ask your doc and find out!
  18. I agree with Mrsbrown! Lets see your pix!!!!!!!!!!!! Soo interested!!
  19. Hey everybody. I have my Mom here who has a question about getting plastic surgery. She is 11 years post gastric bypass surgery. Has maintained a 120 pound weight loss. After loosing the weight she ended up with some loose skin on her arms, thighs, butt, and stomach..and really wants to have some plastic surgery done. After the weight was off, she looked into getting it done through her surgeon and he referred her to a plastic surgeon but the cost was outrageous so she couldn't have it done..and insurance would not cover. Shes gone into a deep depression about this because she really wants this excess skin taken off! Its enough to cause her not to wear a bathing suit and she hides herself just as much now as she did when she was fat. So her question is, does anybody know of any grants or does anybody know about any programs for people who have this problem who are lower income? Or maybe a PS who would finance? Because she cannot afford to have it done but desperately needs it. We live in Connecticut..so whatever anybody can share we would appreciate. Thanks for reading!

Question about port and contact sports

I don't understand why they wouldn't put the port in a spot where something like this wouldn't happen? I'm not sure where ...lol...but it just seems like this is a real pain in the ass.

    Flat Breads Anyone?

OMG I clicked on this thinking this said Flat Breasts anyone? Lmao!
  24. Girl, I think you should just do really good this week and try your best to just lose some weight before surgery, like a few pounds maybe? As long as you loose a few pounds I think you should do fine....I think what matters the most is the last week before surgery....just don't cheat again...you should do fine...and go ahead with the surgery...stop worrying...pick up where you left off and start focusing on your future. Good Luck hun!
