  1. So the doctor said that I'm healing well and can go to the next phase of the diet...full liquids. Not too excited, but I'm trying to be positive. Did I mention that I'm THE pickiest eater ever? Four year olds got nothin' on me!! But I'm going to work it out because this is what I signed up for. Also the doctor told me that I lost 20 lbs!!! Now that's from my pre-op diet too...either way, I'm so stoked! I'm going to Celebrate by taking a walk...yay!!! Thanks to all of you for your support. Four days out, I was despairing that I would never get rid of the pain and weird feelings that I had. Y'all reassured me and talked me off the ledge...thank you!!!
  2. Thanks everyone!!! I'm having my first full liquid "meal" as we speak!! Yay!!
  3. Okay, so today i had about 60 oz of water, 60 grams of protein, all my vitamins and I walked for about 20 minutes. Am I doing too much too fast? I feel kind of bloated after I took the last of my (disgusting) Calcium. So...am I harming myself in any way? I only had my surgery on 1/23 and it seems like maybe I got in too much? And I blame the bloated feeling on mixing unflavored protein powder (Unjury) into my chicken broth. It made it thicker and therefore, it stuck more? What do y'all think?

    Overdid It Today?

I figured as much but I thought I get it out to the community at large. I love drinking Water so I've just been taking your advice, Lissa and sipping all day. I basically use my 20 oz bottle and try to drink two of them a day. And then I drink one bottle of Isopure Zero (Alpine Punch, the only one I can stomach)...and of course, my Vitamins and such. That's been my whole consumption since I got home from surgery. Because I was feeling pretty good, I decided to try something different...hence, the bloated feeling. I really haven't had any SF ice pops because I haven't felt like it. When I have (twice thus far), I can't finish the whole thing. Thanks for the reassurance!
  5. I probably won't be cleared for exercise by February...boo!!! It sounds like a great challenge!

    Help! Post-Op Period Gone Crazy!

OMG! I thought I was the only one!! This is ridiculous!! I had my period for like a week and half prior...then it just kept on coming!! And it's still here. I'm so over it!! It's made me a little tired and cold....and just a little crampy. I hope it ends soon! I'm sure that I'm going to get anemic for a while!!!
  7. Hey! So my nurse told me to remove that plastic bandage over my incision in 5 days...it's been 6 so I'm going to do it today. However, I need some advice on how to care for my incision. After I remove the bandage, am I supposed to put Neosporin on it? Or just leave it naked? I have no idea. I had so many questions about other aspects, that I didn't even think about asking the doctor and now it's Saturday. What did y'all do with your incisions...because I'm also scared of an infection. Oh and I only have one incision...thank God. But it's the belly button....right in the crease. Any advice would be awesome! Thanks so much!!

    Peek Inside My Medicine Cabinet

Wow! That's a lot of supplements. Totally makes sense because we're all so restricted. What is the pseudoephedrine for...and the vitamin E....if you don't mind my asking :blush5:

    Caloric Intake Too Low?

No, I love the shot glass thing, BigToe!! I have shot glasses from my travels. That's an awesome idea. Thank you all so much for your help. I just want to do the right thing by new little sleeve.
  10. I'm trying desperately trying to get a bottle of Isopure in while i'm on my first week of clear liquids. I'm also drinking a bottle of water and i had a sugar free ice pop. That leaves me at under 200 calories a day. To be fair i only got out of the hospital yesterday. I'm going to try and have some chicken broth too, but it's not like that will add too much bulk. I've also been doing laps around my house. Am I getting enough calories in? Should I even be worried about that for this first week? I don't want to shut down in starvation mode. Thanks for any ideas and help!
  11. Hey! So i'm only four days out and feeling some major discomfort. I don't want to use Percocet all the time either. I'm trying to get my walking in every few hours...however, it's four in the morning and i'm so uncomfortable! What did you all do for the pain? I was thinking of taking liquid Tylenol just to take the edge off. I'm going to call my surgeon tomorrow and see what he says. How did y'all fare?

    4 Days Out-Lots Of Pain

Hey guys! Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers. I've been trying to make sure i get all my Isopure and Water in. I'm walking for a good ten minutes a couple of times a day in my house (it's cold and my mom's being a mom and freaking about my walking outside). My belly is still distended and i hear the gas rumbling inside. Swallowing any liquid hurts and getting applesauce with my meds makes me gag really bad. I'm getting chewable Tylenol to make sureni'm not hitting the Percocet too hard. I'm trying not to be a Debbie Downer, i know this operation is a good thing. I'm just finding it hard to find the light at the end of this particular tunnel. I hope i look back at this post in a few months and laugh at my despair....in the meantime, wah!!
  13. Hey everyone! I'm checking in one last time before the surgery. I'm nervous, excited, anxious and scared all in one. I know everything will be great. I have a fantastic surgeon and a great support system in my family and friends. See y'all on the other side :biggrin5: Bye for now!!
  14. Congratulations!! That is fantastic!!! I hope the gas pains go away soon!!!

    Omg

I'm getting sleeved in 4 days!! I'm a little nervous. I have to clean my room and do laundry and get my shopping done so that's one less thing my mom has to do...she's flying in from the Dominican Republic...eek!! I'm a little nervous! I've never been admitted to a hospital and now I'm going to be staying there for three days!! <deep breaths> I need to relax!!

    Any Low Bmi Folks Here?

I'm 5'6"...the doctor insists that I'm actually 5'5", but I don't believe him. My license says 5'6" and that's how it's going to stay...lol! My BMI was exactly 40 (the bare minimum to be approved) and 241 lbs. I'm like 233 (as of Thursday) but I'm on my two week pre-op diet so I know I've lost a few more. I'm going to try to weigh myself once a week, if even that. I don't want to be obsessive. I've also been doing my elliptical for 15 minutes and building my way up. I hope I can still do the elliptical, albeit very slowly, after the surgery. I'm in New York and it's been quite cold out. I don't know if I'll be able to get outside to walk. I also don't want to join the gym 'til my doctor gives me the okay to bump it up.

Thanks for the tips...I'm still waiting for my surgery, but my friends have big dinners out and I need to know how to deal with that!!

January 24Th Is My Surgery Day!

I'm getting surgery on January 23rd. I'm nervous and excited and everything all in one. I'm on protein shakes for one more week....then on to the next phase!!! Good luck!!
  19. Hello everyone! So I've been away awhile as I was on vacation in the Dominican Republic...woo hoo! But I'm back and starting my two week liquid diet. I'm drinking the Met-Rx in Original vanilla. And to be honest, I'm having a little trouble getting it down. It's just very thick and I'm trying not to psych myself out. I mixed it with Water and used my Blender Bottle. The upside is that I'm not the least bit hungry. And I feel really good. I'm starting to write everything down because I want to get in the habit of keeping track of things. I'm going to do 20 minutes on the elliptical. I heard that exercising beforehand helps with the healing process. Tomorrow, I have an appointment with my surgeon to go over the finer points.I have a few things I have to discuss with him. Namely, I want to see what he suggests for Protein intake and Vitamin regimens, etc. I guess, I want to see how all my January newbies are doing. Best, Dania

    Starting Pre-op Diet

Quick question: I drank a cup of green tea. I usually average one or two a day. I don't drink coffee and I don't drink soda so that's the only caffeine I have. i don't add milk or sugar. I wonder if that's okay?

    Starting Pre-op Diet

Yeah, I'm on my second of four. I'm definitely going a little slow, but I think today is my learning curve. I'm going to get my mixing just right and I think I'm going to make my first shake earlier so I'm drinking it while I'm driving in.

    Post-op Gallbladder Issues

Can one ask the surgeon to remove it during the surgery? I'm still a pre-op and I'm tempted to ask him to just take it out alone with my stomach...lol.
  23. I was speaking with one of my friends that gastric bypass and she said that someone in her support group said that one should only consume like 30 grams of Protein in one sitting because the body will not absorb it. I know I wouldn't be able to have that much in one sitting, post-op. But since I have to get 60-80 grams in a day, I thought that an Isopure (40 grams protein, zero carb) and a shake spread over a whole day would be okay. Does anyone know about this?
  24. Hello everyone! I got approval a week ago and I am so excited! I have to close cousins who've had gastric bypass so I do have their support and knowledge. However, since I'm getting the sleeve, I thought it imperative to join a site that would be tailored to my needs....so here I am! I've been scheduled for January 23 and I've been in research mode. Prior to reading around, I thought I would stock up on all these powders and shakes. I've since learned that that would be a bad idea. So I'm going to get a few samples and see what I like. I know that I will have to consume about 60 grams of Protein a day (yikes!). But I'm up to the challenge. I do have a consistency problems in that I don't like anything too thick or viscous, so I'm going to make my shakes with Water and drink them very cold! Also, my list of supplements are: a multi-Vitamin, Iron, Biotin, B12, Calcium and a B50 complex. Does anyone have anything to add? Or the names of any good ones? And where to buy at a good price? Also, how much water should one drink a day? Also, how about Protein powder? Has anyone tried unjury? Is it any good? I was thinking about getting a sample but some reviewers said the smell was awful. I think that's about it (for now)...

    Surgery in January 2012

I'm very excited too! Please display any info your dietitian discusses. I already got a multi, biotin and b12 from Amazon. The prices were okay. But let me just say I can't wait to be able to swallow whole pills. They'll be a little cheaper than the chewables!
