  1. Had my surgery yesterday (Halloween) morning and just got back home this afternoon. The surgery went off without a hitch and other than some aches and a bit of discomfort with the 6 holes and 35 staples in my tummy, I'm feeling great. I now believe I may have overthought the whole process a bit prior to the surgery....it wasn't anywhere near as hard or as painful as I had made it out to be in my head. Thank you to everyone on here that gives their time to share their experience and answer the many questions from the pre-surgery folks.

It all now seems a bit surreal....my life's new chapter has begun!

  2. I just noticed this post today but I wanted to wish you halloween sleevers good luck.

Thanks Felicia. Surgery went off without a hitch yesterday and I just got home about an hour ago. I was feeling some nausea while in the hospital but since I got home, the nausea seems to have subsided. I've yet to have the need to take any pain meds, even while in the hospital. I hope all the other Halloween sleevers' procedures went through as easy as mine. It all seems a bit surreal now....my life's new chapter has officially begun!

  3. I was part of the Fen-Phen fad for five months in 1996. I'm one of the lucky ones that somehow avoided heart valve damage. Even though it's been 15 years, I can remember clearly the feeling of little to no hunger while on the meds. For anyone that has already been sleeved and was also part of the Fen-Phen fad back in the 90's, is the loss of hunger after being sleeved comparable to the loss of hunger feeling while on Fen-Phen?

I guess I'll know the answer to this question fairly soon....I'm scheduled to be sleeved tomorrow (Monday) am. But I'd still love to hear from other previous Fen-Phen'ers.

  4. First off, welcome back to TX. We have something in common that I too moved away from DFW and for almost 3 years, couldn't wait to get back. I just moved back in May and like you, so glad to be back 'home'. I'm in Flower Mound. Still can't believe that the next chapter for me begins in less than 3 days!

  5. DallasMom - Dr Kim will be the architect to the next (and long overdue) chapter in my life.

Jmiller - Thank you for the kind words and the prayers. I've read where a lot of people are really nervous prior to their surgery but I'm actually getting more and more excited every day....just 3+ days now! By Monday morning, I'll probably be bouncing off the walls ;)

Interesting that the three of us are all Texans....hmmmm.

  6. Male or female you are welcome!

Halloween will be a great starting point and I'm sure your procedure will go well. I'm happy to say that I did not experience one negative side effect and that's pretty common.

Where are you having your surgery?

My life's next chapter will begin at Forest Park Medical Center. Hopefully the goblins stay away Monday ;)

  7. I'll be joining the two of you...I'm being sleeved on Halloween too. I guess one of the advantages is, I don't have to buy all that candy for the neighborhood kids (that I normally end up eating a lot of anyway). I'm now 10 days into a 14 day 'liquids only' pre-op diet. And strangely enough, my hunger is already all but gone. And even more strange, I've somehow started to REALLY like my vanilla Protein Shakes. That may not be the case post-op but for now, it's working out pretty well. I wish you both the best of luck on our Halloween 'date' ;)

  8. First off, congrats to all of you 'lower BMI-ers' for your success so far. I'm glad I found this thread....I hope there's room for another in this 'lower starting BMI' boat....? I'm starting with a BMI of 33 and my surgery is in four days (Halloween...yikes!). My goal is to drop about 65 lbs total. I realize I may be the only male on this thread but regardless, I just wanted to say hello and congrats to everyone. Wish me luck for the big day Monday.

  9. I've read so many great stories on here from those that have lost 100+ lbs and changed their lives. But does anyone know anything about the effectiveness of VSG for those starting with a BMI in the 34-35 range and a total of 50-60lbs to lose? I'm curious if the procedure is as effective and if the weight comes off at or near the same rate. Thanks in advance for any insight.

  10. Hi all from a newbie now two weeks from the big day (Oct 31). I've read a lot about the portion of the stomach to be removed being responsible for the production of the hunger hormone (ghrelin). I'm curious to hear from those who are already sleeved....how much has your hunger actually decreased compared to prior? And if you had any cravings prior (e.g. sweets), how much have those cravings decreased? Thanks in advance for any insight.
