I bought a Taylor Lithium at Target for around $30.00 and it weighs me exactly what my doctors scale weighs me every time.

I Gotta Come Clean - I've Altered My Pre Op Diet
I had this very same question a few days ago as I'm on week two of my pre-op diet. My surgeon said two to three protein shakes a day and one lean cuisine or healthy choice meal with a small salad. I'm not clear on why some surgeons say all liquids and some don't?

Holy Wrist Bones!

Any Sleevers On April 18?
My pre-op diet is two protein shakes a day plus one light meal including a salad. This is actually making it hard, because as soon as I eat that one light meal, it makes me want more food! I'm doing ok though. The gym is helping take a few pounds off.

Any Sleevers On April 18?
Hi JaniRN, I will be getting sleeved on the 18th. They won't give me a time though until the day before, so that's kind of nerve wracking, but I'm trying to keep busy and have everything prepared to keep my mind off of it. I'm trying very hard to stick to my pre-op diet and get to the gym most days. How are you doing with your pre-op diet?

My First Day Off Clear Liquids!
That is great! I hope I will enjoy those things as much when the time comes, and I've always loved cream of wheat!

Pre-Op Two Week Liquid Diet
Thank you for your response vsg30815. Did they do some sort of test to determine fatty liver, or did the doc just go by height and weight etc. ?

Pre-Op Two Week Liquid Diet
I'm on the second week of my pre-op diet. I hear a lot of you saying how you can have liquids only, but for some reason my surgeon allows two shakes then one meal a day. Does anyone know why some surgeons want it to be total liquid for two weeks and some don't?

Confused About Carbs
tasherie, that is good to hear and it looks like you are doing great! I don't want to stress about carbs in addition to making sure I get enough fluids in, so I think for now I will not worry about it.

Confused About Carbs
Yeah I know what you mean when you say nutrition over the carbs...I have mixed feelings about it. I have been on low carb diets in the past and I seem to have an easier time losing on low carb but at the same time I feel like I'm missing out on important nutrients. I'm leaning towards just cutting out the white breads and pastas, and refined junk carbs and not worrying so much about dairy, fruits and whole grains.

Bougie Size
Dooter, thank you...I found out I have to have one repaired during surgery at my pre-op appt. but forgot to ask that question.

Bougie Size
Do any of you know if having a hernia affects the size bougie used in surgery?

Confused About Carbs
Hello everyone, I will be having surgery in about a week and a half so I'm making sure I have everything I need. I'm a little confused about carbs I suppose... I know some people count carbs and try to keep it under 20 - 30 grams a day and then others don't. I'm still not sure where I stand on that. My main question right now is about what to mix Protein powder with, milk or Water. If I use milk (which I think makes the shake taste better), then I'm adding about 16 grams of carbs to the shake. Will this slow my weight loss down, or will it not make a big difference? I'm just curious what some of you are mixing with, and if mixing with milk seems to make your weight loss slower? Thanks!

Coffee Post Op
This is one of my biggest questions sadly because I am so addicted to coffee. currently I have two cups of coffee in the morning before people can even talk to me. I am hoping that at some point I can fit in a little. I have surgery on 4/18.

Surgery April 18,2012
Hello fellow VSG'rs I will be having surgery on April 18, 2012. I am excited as well as nervous as I am sure most of you experienced some jitters just before. I began my journey about 7 months ago when I was about to start another diet. My sister noticed how bad my attitude was and I was feeling defeated before I even started. She is the one who said, "hey you should look into that lapband thing." The next day I began making phone calls and while waiting for calls back I started researching everything about WLS. Within a few days I decided that VSG sounded like the best fit for me. I started gaining weight in my twenties and have been a yoyo dieter ever since, with gaining back more each time until I reached my heaviest point which was 216. I am only 5'1" so my BMI was at 40 when I saw the surgeon for the first time on December 16, 2011. I started working out and eating a healthier diet and am now down to 208. Today I began my pre-op diet which consists of two protein shakes and a small meal. In two weeks I will be sleeved! Yay! In the pic I posted, it was about a month ago and I was around 211. I was with friends at wine tasting and I remember everytime a picture was snapped of me, I would say.."oh this will make a great before picture" I plan to go back there next year with my husband and have some much nicer pictures taken!

Fab 40's shout out
hellonurse, yes I just started my two week diet today which consists of two protein shakes and one small meal a day. Two days before surgery, clear liquids only, and then the day before I have to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate. The nurse told me to stay home on that day lol.

Pre-Op Jitters

Fab 40's shout out
Ok, ticker done...So a little about me. Again, I am 47. I am married to my wonderful husband who is now retired from the military but still works as a contractor overseas so he is gone a lot but still is able to show me lots of support for this journey. Together we have four beautiful children ages 11, 17, 18, and 19! The 19 year old is in college and the 18 year old will start next fall...two down I am more than ready to begin a new life and become healthier and happier for my wonderful family. I want to be around a LONG time and one day see lots of grandchildren. In about 20+ years I have tried every diet under the sun and the most I have ever been able to lose was about 35 pounds before I give up and regain even more. I am going in with the full knowledge that this will be a tool and not a cure, but I truly have a lot of hope that it's the tool I have been missing that will help me get to my goal and maintain. I love reading everyone's stories and I'm also addicted to watching vsg journies on youtube. I will probably start my own youtube channel this week to vlog my progress. Anyway, I am very happy to have found this community and look forward learning and discussing things with you all! Cheers!
