  1. Hey guys,

I wanted to encourage those who may be afraid of the surgery. I got home about 2 hours ago. I have to say it is better than I thought it would be. I feel better now than I did 2 hours ago. What hurts the most is the gas from surgery. Shoulder neck pain, and I can feel the gas moving in my belly.

So.... The doc told my hubby and I that he found a hiatal hernia when he went to place my lapband. He fixed it and placed the band as well. I am not sure what a hiatal hernia is but I'm gonna do some research. He said mIne was fairly large and it explains the hrs flux and heartburn .

  2. Yes I have tmj and have had surgery before. It has never caused an issue with my previous surgery. I know exactly what u mean. There has been times I have had to push food in somewhat just to take a bite, and even chewing has been extremely horrible. Every bite down hurts. However my tmj flares and then goes away for some time. I realized I had it almost 20 yes ago and have mainly used mess, and avoided heavy chewing when I flare. I think playing the trumpet caused my tmj

  3. Thanks everyone for suggestions. My docs instructions are liquid diet for 6 days and then day before surgery a clear liquid diet. Nothing after 12 the night before. They gave me some literature with ideas so I went out and purchased some ingredients. For example the cream of wheat has to e drinkable. Yogurt has to be plain or vanilla with no solid fruit. So far I'm doing really good. Today I am making a chicken Soup without consuming the chicken. Mostly need the broth. So I have slot of faith in myself. I feel like I am going to run out of ideas by Monday...

  4. Today is the 1st day of my Preop diet. I have scoured for weeks to come up with ideas on the Pre-op diet. I have purchased cream of wheat, skim milk, Protein mix, whipping cream, chicken for broth, honey, vanilla yogurt, a few more things.

What did you consume in your prep diet? I need real world suggestions and ideas instead of reading thousands of webpages online where the authors have constantly used copy/paste on their articles.

  5. What do you guys think about this? Now you can have a bmi of 30 and qualify for the lap band. I have been reading so many stories and so glad I decided to get the band. Surgery in 8 days!! See link of interesting insight on the new fda approval. Do you think insurance companies will bite on this? http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-02-18/entertainment/28631190_1_lap-band-weight-loss-surgery-band-slippage-adjustable-gastric-band

  6. Hello everyone! I hope all is well your way and many thanks to all who have been so insightful!!

I am curious to what your Pre-op process and what it was like. I have chose to get my surgery b Dr. Stowers of Bariatric Solutions. I went in on a Friday and did my consultation and met Dr. Stowers and his staff. That same day I did my nutritional assessment. On Saturday I did my psychological eval. On Monday I reviewed online information about my procedure as well as video and a test. The online info was awesome and was very detailed about the procedure. On Wednesday the docs office called and told me that my insurance company approved the lap band procedure. This was all about 3 weeks ago and since then, all I can think of is the lap band, how my life will change, reading this forum, looking at YouTube videos... Next week on Nov 10th I have my Pre-op testing and on Nov 11th my surgery.

I'm thinking wow this entire process is going so smoothly! I am so excited. I am curious as to what your process has been like and also what the Pre-op day is like. What medical tests are performed... Blood, EKG? Looking forward to reading about your experiences.

  7. I have BCBS and the end of year was a factor for me as I have met my deductible and max out of pocket. I did all of my Pre-requirements including psych consult, nutrition assessment, training about the procedure, AND insurance approved in 3 days. M doctor is extremely organized and I have essentially a case worker Michael who is sweet and has been my point person. They even schedule me a hotel room for the night before the surgery so that I can be right near the hospital.

  8. I work in a mostly male shop. I am having surgery in 8 days and decided not to tell anyone I work with about my surgery to get the lap band. I have however created a blog and YouTube account to document the experience. I have schedule 2 days off next week for preop and surgery. I hope to be well enough the following Monday to return to work.

  9. Hello everyone, I am getting banded on Nov. 11th. One question that I have been thinking of is what the band feels like once you get it? Do you feel that a foreign object is inside of your body or do you just feel the same and get full quicker? Do any of you have issues with the location of the port?

Also when you start losing all the weight, how can you avoid that gaunt sickly look. Some people just dont look healthy. I want to do this right and I am so scared I will get stuck or something...

A few questions from a Dallas, Texas native.

    Thanks
