  1. I am on my liquid diet ( surgery next Tuesday) and yesterday was hard... I actually cooked and had the celebration at my home .We had about 25 people and each one brought a dish each looked better and smelled better than I remembered . I had a shake and I never let go of my water bottle , I drank 80 ozs , in 3 hours. But I had a great time visiting and watching the kids run and play. I too am wondering what will I do instead of eating , but my mind says there has to be a better way , we each need to find it for ourselves! ( but I am open to any ideas!!) Congrats on your sleeve cant wait to be there ! Live each day as it may be our last.God Bless and wishing you a speedy recovery.

  2. My first meeting was a seminar on March 19 , 2011. Had 12 weeks supervised diets , behavior ,nutrition and Dr's. appointments. Every thing was sent in Last wed

(May 25,11) should have had surgery on the 5th but I am gone a week in June so I have mandatory (by the Doctor) classes of 4 weeks preop , I have to miss one in the

middle but just one week wont kill me! I hope!! So adding it all up I will have surgery its like 4 months and 3 weeks from start to surgery! Seems long but

the time flies by. Good luck . will watch for your progress!

  3. I lost 20 but I went up and down the entire time first two weeks I lost 1 pound the 3rd week I lost 5 .Everybody is different, some in my class lost nothing. Good luck!

I've gone to the seminar, had my consultation, met with a nutritionist and am on my 12 week, insurance required "diet". Has anyone ever lost weight on their 12 week program? I've been on it for a week and a half and haven't lost a pound. I'm really glad I'm not required to lose any weight before surgery but one again, I feel like a failure.

  4. Hey there!

I'm in the Phx area too! I'm going to be going to Banner Gateway though. My PCP recommended Dr. Blackstone, but for some reason she's not listed as being on Aetna's approved list :( I've heard really good things about her, so that's awesome that she's your doc (not that I'm disappointed in mine though).

How exciting that your surgery is so soon!! Can't wait to hear more from you.

Have you had luck getting Aetna to approve your surgery ? I still have 6 weeks of classes but am determined to get this done.Just wondering . I know they have lots of stipulations. Just feeling anxcious. Good luck!

  5. Aetna does cover the sleeve. It reqiures a 6 month or 3 month supervised diet program.I too have Aetna and am in my second month of classes .They said Aetna is very hard to get an approval so document everything. The more you have to show them , the better off you will be .so from start to surgery we are looking at 6 months with the supervised program, and a year with the non supervised program. Good Luck in the long run they will be saving money ,you'd think they wouldn't make it so hard!

    Hello.

I'm wondering about Aetna's insurance coverage for the sleeve. I have read the posts about Aetna, but here is my dilemma.

I don't have insurance yet. My husband will be getting insurance through his work, but that won't be until June 1st. I wonder if I can call them and ask about our plan before it starts. No problem in trying I suppose. But what I'm really wondering is if I can start the three month pre-approval process before they even cover us? It's about 3 months until our coverage starts, so I was thinking during this time, I can get a jump on the process, by seeing a nut, doing exercises, logging my food, etc.

I guess I just have to call them to find out all of this stuff.

  6. I've just begun my journey , I have participated in 1 week of 12 pre op classes, required by my insurance .I am very excited to finish up classes and schedule a surgery date.At this point i won't have surgery until July or August, and patience is not my strong suit. But I'm learning quickly this all has a time frame that I need to fit into. My highest weight is 264.4 . I am 52 years old. I have been reading alot of your post , and the encouragement is a blessing.I plan to see this through .
