  1. About a week without a bowel movement post op is normal and the first one will probably small anyway. I did 2 weeks of pre op liquids, nothing by mouth for the day of surgery and one day after surgery; when I did start "eating" I could only drink about 30 cc of liquid at 15-30 minute intervals, so I was not worried about not having a BM. What was your pre op diet and what is your current intake, consider these before you think you really "constipated."

And Milk of Magnesis is great, too. Good luck!

  2. That seems super early to be on those types of foods. I don't start those kinds of foods until I'm at 5-6 weeks post op. Currently I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and I'm taking clear to full liquids and creamy Soups that have been strained.

I would suggest you discuss how you feel with your doctor and if you still feel like that, I would probably scale back on the types of foods you are eating. You will be swollen for a while and those foods have to go down a swollen little funnel (and you don't want to be streching that new pouch out so soon).

    Best regards!

  3. Warm liquids seem to go down better for me. And I double or triple up my Protein. For example, 8 ounces of 1% milk = 8 grams of Protein, 1 packet of carnation instant Breakfast mix - 5 grams of protein, and 1 scoop of Jay Robb's whey protein = 25 grams of protein. I mix all this together and wham, a totally of 38 grams of protein in my 8 ounce morning shake. You can add more milk to it as I sometimes do, up to 12 ounces of milk and that makes the shake not too thick and ups the protein content again.

Two shakes twice a day is 76 grams of protein. Hope this helps.

Try powering up your protein, but always make sure your sleeve is comfortable, best to you!

  4. I'm about 2 weeks post op and I remember those 1st 4-7 days post op vividly. What I would do is use a 30 cc medicine cup and literally follow the clock and drink those 30 cc's every 15 minutes. I had ticker sheets from my doctor and the hospital, I made several copies and used them at home as well. I like to start early (at 4am or 6am) in the morning because I did not want to go back to the hospital for dehedration either. When I was uncomfortable, I would stop drinking for an hour or two, until I was able to drink comfortably again.

Another thing I did (and am still doing right now) is using those baby sippy cups with the3 little holes in the top of the cup to drink from. It reminds me to take very small sips and I usually only put about 3-4 ounces in it which is the amount you should finish drinking in about an hour.

Also, you still have swelling right now and your sleeve may not be all that agreeable with milk and Protein shakes. At the very post op stages, I drank very warm liquid broth and counted that as "liquids" as well. My doctor and his staff told me that at the very early stages hydration is the most important thing, not Protein. Protein will become more important in the next few weeks.

I really felt like geting in 60 ounces was a job because I worked on it from like 6am to 10pm at night. I would also keep 4 ounces of liquid at my bedside at night just to try to get a little in whenever I woke up.

    Hope you are feeling better!

  5. [Congrats!!!']

Had a pretty amazing little appointment today with the maternal perinatal ob(high risk doc). I hit the fabulous 29lbs gained by their scale, but they admit they got a new scale and it seems to be weighing everyone heavy. At this point, I honestly don't care about the number on the scale, I'm just ready for her to get here.

Tatum is perfect, she's growing, thriving, over 5lbs at this point, her lung/pulmonary function testing was normal today, her echo was spot on normal, and she has a full head of baby hairs ! ! ! Dr. B even said if I were to deliver today, she would perfect. I start the prednisone therapy tomorrow, & will have platelets rechecked in 2 weeks on the 17th. As long as my platelets hit 85K, I'll be able to have an epidural. If my platelets do not respond, then they are going to evaluate giving me a spinal block with a very light amount of anesthesia. If this is not an option, general anesthesia for the csection is the only option for delivery. Overall, we are absolutely fabulous ! ! ! Delivery is November 1st.

I am on restricted activity, and by their defintion, I am supposed to just sit around for the next 25 days until she gets here. Waking induces some pretty strong Braxton Hicks type contractions, and I'm definitely not allowed to do much of anything for the next few weeks that could possibly induce full on labor.

  6. LOL!

Well.. I had one glass of wine and I do believe I'm buzzed... at any rate.. here is my letter to size 6.

    ahem...

    Dear size 6...

I have spent my entire life trying to be friends with you. I have been nothing but sweet, cute and funny.. but you never want anything to do with me. The hours I have spent trying to attain you are, quite frankly, time wasted. You have eluded me my entire life and I just wanted to let you know that I am no longer interested in a friendship. I'm rather sick of your stuck up attitude and can't be bothered with you any longer. Soooo.. when you see me with size 4 I just wanted to let you know that you can kiss my skinny little A$.

    That will be all.

  7. Welcome, Elizabeth. I'm Ann and I'm new, too. Welcome to this site; it does seem quite helpful. My surgery date is November 7th and I'm ready to get started on my journey to a healthier me.

i Everyone! I'm Elizabeth. My surgery date is November 21, 2011. I am excited and anxious all at the same time. I feel like my life is about to become the one I've wanted to have since I was younger-healthy and happier. I joined this site because there is no advice like that of the experienced. Thanks to all of you that have posted comments on different threads, it is such a huge help. I look forward to sharing my journey with you and hope to be there for others as you have.

  8. Hello everyone!

I'm a newbie here. My sleeve surgery date is 11-7-11 and I start my 2 weeks of liquids on 10-24-11. I'm excited/anxious to really get started. My husband and I have done a lot of research because we like to be as prepared as possible. I'm so blessed that he is supportive of me in this endeavor. I've been scanning through several posts and this sounds like a really good site. I'm ready to let my journey begin.

    My best wishes to everyone!
